It's been one year since I started using my IPhone, and now warranty has expired, so should I jailbreak or not? What are the advantages and disadvantages of having an jail broken IPhone?

I like how you're ignorant of what OP is even saying.

I'm not. But there were already multiple replies weighing pros and cons, so I felt it was justified to imply that jailbreaking to get accessibility is not the industry standard.

Liberate to accumulate.

Some good apps around to unlock functionality and tweak thing Apple tried to lock away or hobble.

Might as well just to screw around with it. But if the argument for jailbreaking is free apps, I don't see the difference between that and pirating games.

There is a difference. Apps are controlled through Apple's appstore. The prices you see are the prices you have to pay if you want them. Proper games you can find at competitive prices and prices vary all the time.

Yes of course.

Pros:

  • More ways to customize the look and feel
  • Apps you wouldn't get via the ios app store (not talking about pirated stuff, but you can run shitloads of software, compile your own stuff if you have the knowledge tc.)
  • Freedom

Cons:

  • Some tweaks can disimprove the overall stability of iOS or some apps
  • You might have to wait for a jailbreak when the next Update of iOS comes out
  • You can mess up the phone if you have no idea what you're doing and accidentally did something wrong. :P

We call that, bricking.

Properly bricking an Iphone is incredibly hard to do.

Drops it in the pool.

Was quite easy actually. Feels so good!

I believe that applies to all smartphones.

When did I suggest otherwise?

Except CES just happened, introducing the first waterproof smartphone. From Sony, no less.

There are also cases to protect your iPhone and Android-running 5" giants from pesky liquid.

Pros:

  • Can remove bloat on the OS so you can actually speed it up

  • Becomes a lot more open. Can literally do anything.

  • Mmmmm

Cons:

  • Could slow down your device if you don't know what you are doing.

That's pretty much it.

iPhones can not be completely bricked because you can just restore them in iTunes.

Do it. The worst that will happen is for some reason you don't like your phone being hacked and you install the official firmware again.

That's an incredibly ignorant statement, seeing as most apps are not $1.

Pros:

  • Maximize the interface customization (More icons on the dock, more than 16 apps on a screen, folderception, themes and many more)

  • Free paid apps (as long as someone's doing it)

  • Makes your iPhone a lot less boring than it is

  • Allows SIM cards that isn't from AT&T

  • Allows Androidlock

Cons:

  • Voids your warranty

  • Too much tweaks can slow down your phone and the boot up time

Protips if you're gonna jailbreak:

  • Remember to save SHSH files

  • DO NOT UPDATE YOUR IPHONE UNTIL AN UNTETHERED JAILBREAK FOR THAT IOS IS RELEASED

It only technically voids the warranty but there isn't a way to prove it since the phone can be restored to factory settings and thus removing all traces of jailbreak.

Yes, you should! Great tweaks.

But as few people said before - you need to know what you doing.

Yes, you should. iPhone sucks otherwise. I know that because I own one.

First ask your self why do you need it for, and what will you play, use on it. If you don't spend more then a few minutes every day on programs or games on it then there is no point in all the extra hassle that jailbraking brings.

I have had a ipod for 4 years and an Ipad for 2 years and never had any reason to jailbrake them because I just don't have any need for the extra apps and stuff it gets you.

Following simple instructions and clicking next is so hard.
By jailbreaking you get access to tweaks and other things that really should be in the iOS by default. Many of the features in the iOS today were available to jailbroken phones long before they were officially added to the OS.

If you've been using it for a year and you haven't even had the thought "why is this so hard to do/what can I do to make this better" for ANY of the functions then that probably says you're already fine with what Apple is offering you. But then, if you'd like to open up your iPhone for a lot more and would actually like to spend time checking out what your phone can actually do, go ahead.

First time I used an iOS device I already had those thoughts and looked into jailbreaking immediately. Can't use another non-jailbroken iOS device anymore.
