I hate these Awards every year with their objectives you have to do to get a badge. Valve is so f** stupid... 2 days ago they released an update for their review-system to improve the quality and now they want, that everyone writes an review just to get 25xp points. Result? "Good game", "Great game", "Nice game" .... works fine with the improvement: NOT

This is how generally Valve works - no subordination, no structure, only projects that chaotically emerge and dissolve. Look at the Steam GUI, all pages are different, no general idea, clearly GUI is being built by totally different people.

The descriptions do not make any sense, not original, not funny, translations to Russian are awful, I don't understand the general reason of it all, I did it for 100 exp points, is all. It won't work, because you can't get any useful information from such questions. The majority of votes will go to Skyrim and Dota 2 no matter the descriptions. And I HIGLY doubt Valve will do a multi-factor analysis on the collected data to make an interesting infographics for us. Valve did it to give at least something to the community, and they repeated the mistake they did last year. I don't like it at all, as you can see.

I just got an update (0 to 512 bytes...) for Bastion, Fallout 4, Mad Max and Rise of the Tomb Raider, and 67.5MB for XCOM2.
I'm not sure if the first four updates are for everyone or if I did something wrong in my DirectX files. If it's indeed for everyone, it's quite a pathetic way to say "Hey, please vote for me for the Labor of Love category".

Found the explanation.

VC 2013 redist was changed, that's why it affected several games but only those that use that specific version.
More specifically file " _CommonRedist/vcredist/2013/installscript.vdf" was changed, must be for compatibility.

The “The World Is Grim Enough Let's Just All Get Along” AwardEventide: Slavic Fable (any Artifex Mundi game would fit here, I just chose my fave one)
The “Choices Matter” AwardFallout: New Vegas (need i say more?)
The “Haunts My Dreams” AwardYooka-Laylee (kept my attention non-stop for a week straight, usually games don't do that)
The “Mom’s Spaghetti” AwardMonstrum (description implied that its a game that caused you to freak-out, and this one caused me to do so to the point where my heart flutters came back)
The “No Apologies” AwardThe Last Tinker: City of Colors (not perfect by any means, but my fave Steam game nonetheless)
The “Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War” AwardSkyrim (I am always super-overpowered by level 10)
The “Suspension of Disbelief” AwardAnimal Lover (so much about it makes no sense, and yet it falls into place and you just go with it)
The “Soul Of Vitruvius” AwardCuphead (DEM VISUALS)
The “Defies Description” AwardSaints Row IV (again, need i say more?)
The “Labor of Love” AwardSubnautica (they've been at it for two years straight)
The “Whoooaaaaaaa, Dude! 2.0” AwardNarcosis (what a trip, especially that FRIGGIN ENDING)
The “Even Better Than I Expected” AwardSonic Forces (ok i cheated, this was more for the Switch port than the PC port, but nonetheless it was a lot better than i was expected and i was expecting a suprising amount)
The “Best Ocean Game That Isn't Subnautica” AwardAquaria (idk)

Spoiler Alert: none of these will get nominated and i will get salty.

  • The World Is Grim Enough Let's Just All Get Along — VA-11 Hall-A — Bartending Visual Novel? Yesssss.
  • Choices Matter — Undertale — Would you smooch a ghost? [Heck Yeah] [♥ Heck Yeah] [Heck Yeah] [Heck Yeah]
  • Haunts My Dreams — Slime Rancher —
  • Mom’s Spaghetti — Titan Souls — Shadow of the Colossus style Boss Run, by way of Zelda, with just one arrow. afdsgf
  • No Apologies — Half Minute Hero — It was a tie between this, Sonic Adventure DX, and KOTOR1.
  • Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War — Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim — This one was very hard to pick.
  • Suspension of Disbelief — NiGHTS into Dreams — Dreamlogic, man. Trippy as hell.
  • Soul of Vitruvius — Bayonetta — Admittedly there are other games that do it better but what a woman.
  • Defies Description — Streets of Rogue — I keep trying to. I keep failing.
  • Labor of Love — Starbound — Admittedly most of it was in Early Access but its still going strong.
  • Whoooaaaaaaa, Dude! 2.0 — Doki Doki Literature Club — Definitely threw me for a loop.
  • Even Better than I Expected — War for the Overworld — It is Indie Dungeon Keeper.
  • Write-In: Updated Ex-Freeware — Last Word — There are others but this stands out for me.

The world is grim but you yourself do not do use form of combat.
I've seen people suggest Stardew Valley which doesn't count to me since it has combat in the mines.
Then there's games where there is combat but you can opt out on your part through Pacifist runs. This is not just Undertale but for example Mirror's Edge where you can just try and dodge attackers.
So yes. Valhalla is grim but the player is just running a bar and mixing drinks.
