Well, in my country we celebrating Christmas in January, so... I don't think you'll wanna move here, but you can just move your Christmas celebration to our tradition! Or I can grant virtual holiday asylum for you right in this thread, so it'll be my holiday calendar where it is your birthday and no one even knows what christmas is! Or you can chalange SexyJesus to a duel for the right of celebrating birthday on that day! Or I can just shut up and stop nonsenssing...

Christmas in January? Russia? Or Montenago? I'm hoping for Montenegro so we have a loose noir connection. Rex Stout's character Nero Wolfe was born in Montenegro. Nero and his assistant Archie Goodwin were detectives kinda like Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Except Archie is not a buffoon like Watson, he's sarcastic and awesome. And since detectives are usually noir I'll say it's connected! I'm pretty sure I wouldn't win a duel with SexyJesus...maybe I could take down HomelyJesus...

Sorry, it's Russia... I've tried to come up with another noir connection, but couldn't think of anything. Even so we do have pretty good version of Sherlock Holmes movie, but it's not noir, so nope, I'm completely off-topic. Can't even keep the conversation, because I don't know enough about this genre... But hey, thanks to you I now know what I will watch in the near future!

Actually Russia is connected! Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky made a student film in 1956 based on...The Killers! The Criterion Collection (they get the rights for all kinds of movies from Charlie Chaplin to Michael Bay and anything in between and make elaborate extra filled editions) released a DVD with both versions of The Killers and one of the extras is the Andrei Tarkovsky version. Now I'll definitely have to watch that version. I'm not very knowledgeable on much film outside of the United States, aside from 50's, 60's and 70's French noir and Hong Kong action, but from a quick look at Wikipedia it seems Andrei Tarkovsky was rather well known in Russia. Dude was even on a stamp!

Yay, I'm in! ^^
And yeah, Tarkovsky is very known here, he is kind of a legend of our cinematograph! He actually was even quite known outside of our country for his "Stalker" movie. But to keep with noir theme - I just found and watched his The Killers, and now want to watch the two you mentioned before, so thank you, I'll have noir evening today!

Oh, since thread alive again - you was right, I DO need more noir now! So what's next, my Master?

At first I thought that has to suck, most everyone is too tired and hungover to remember your birthday. Then I thought further...use it to your advantage! Tell a girl on New Year's Eve it's good luck to kiss someone born on the first day of the year!

I was born last day of the year... 31 december... and that sux!

That's a pretty good day, anywhere you go is a party! And everyone is drunk enough by 10 just say it's my birthday anywhere and they'll buy you drinks and if you don't drink...food! Plus use the same thing as Jastrzap with a little change: Tell a girl on New Year's Eve it's good luck to kiss someone born on the LAST day of the year!

I wasn't born on xmas eve luckily (day after Halloween actually and it kicks all kinds of ass) but my roommate's birthday is! He was complaining too because he never gets to do anything fun with friends on his birthday because he has to spend it with his family.

It could be worse. I know a guy who was born on Christmas Eve and his parents gave him a name Adam (who in my country celebrates his name's day on Christmas Eve)...and it was purposely done so they could give him all presents at one day. Yes, they are quite greedy.
Happy (late) birthday to you!:)
And Gunpoint is really a great game. I had a lot of fun with it.
And when talking about noir, one brilliant noir story that comes to my mind (although it is not a movie, yet, but comic) is a Batman The Long Halloween. That comic has a really thick atmosphere:)

Name's day...I am surprised us American's haven found some way to steal that idea. Italians (among others) do it and we have an Olive Garden in every major and most minor metropolitan area!
And a Happy (choose one: late / early) birthday to you!
Gunpoint fan! Yay!
The Long Halloween is my favorite Batman storyline. It was just released in a "Noir Edition" which is really just the story in black and white. Honestly though, I can not recommend the Noir Edition, losing the color takes away from the story. Jeph Joeb (writer) & Tim Sale (arist) did a follow up, Dark Victory. Similar story but adds in Robin. Not as good but still awesome. They did another story later, Catwoman When in Rome. Not as good as the other two, it's more of a fun romp with Catwoman and Riddler that takes place during Dark Victory. They did three stories in a similar vein before Long Halloween too. They are the Legends of the Dark Knight Halloween Specials, later released as Haunted Knight. It's made up of three issues, first a Scarecrow, then Mad Hatter and last is a Batman version of a Christmas Carol. They are also noir-ish and if you haven't checked them out I recommend the whole bunch.

I love how my friends are all doing stuff with family until late on Christmas Eve, then back with family Christmas morning then by afternoon I'd get calls wanting to do something for the birthday. Seems 3 hours is the max most people I know can hang with family at Christmas!

Well...just got done hanging with some family and I guess I'm supposed to give something away since it's my birthday plus I haven't given anything away for awhile. Yep, Christmas Eve birthday. And yep it's now after midnight for us East Coasters. And yep that makes this kinda late. Christmas Eve is the worst day to have a birthday. I don't want to hear it from you Christmas Day birthday people either! When someone gives you a Birthday / Christmas gift it's because it's the same day. Us Christmas Eve people are getting a gift from two days smashed together! But hey Eve-ers there's a bunch of cool people stuck in the same situation. Short list:
Diedrich Bader (voice of Batman in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Drew Carey Show, Office Space...you know him...two chicks at the same time, man.
Lee Dorsey (60's R&B: Working in the Coal Mine, Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley)
Ava Gardner (Married to Frank Sinatra, was in the Killers and...some other movies)
Chris Hero (Wrestler Extraordinaire)
Howard Hughes (You know him)
LEMMY!!@!!!!!!@ (From Motorhead, come on people!)
Ricky Martin (You know him and don't want to admit it)
Mark Valley (Human Target, Keen Eddie, Boston Legal)
On the other hand we got a few strikes against us:
Some dude from One Direction
Woman who wrote Twilight
Mark Millar
Ryan Seacrest
Anyway...I'm giving a humble key for Gunpoint. This game gave me the most enjoyment I've had playing a video game in years. Anyone disappointed with Watch Dogs will love this game. It's basically the same game...if it was made for the Super Nintendo...and was a side scrolling platformer...and wasn't a disappointment.
So, while you are here let's talk...something. Wanna complain about your Christmas Eve b-day? Or we could talk film noir. I love noir movies and Gunpoint is HEAVILY influenced by noir. Even have a noir mention up there. The Killers was a movie based on a short story by Ernest Hemminway starring Burt Lancaster, Ava Gardner and Edmond O'Brien. The opening and first part of the movie is pretty much Hemingway's story. It was remade in 1964 by Donald Siegel (Dirty Harry) starring Lee Marvin, Clu Gulager, John Cassavetes, Angie Dickinson and Ronald Regan. Regan's character is a straight up bad guy, you spend the whole movie waiting for someone to off him. So basically he plays himself. And there this: Hah!
So enough geek trivia from me. What's your favorite? I'll mention mine:
classic noir: The Big Sleep or Out of the Past
obscure classic noir: Narrow Margin or The Killing or The Killers
Neo Noir: The Ice Harvest (Bonus points, it's set during Christmas!)
Favorite noir overall: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer in a parody of a noir that becomes a noir. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!)
Alright, enough from me....let's talk, why you love being born on Christmas Eve, favorite noir, why you hate being born on Christmas Eve, something else. Or we could just all bash Mark Millar
