"why do people take a game so serious especially when its free to play games?"
because some people are competitive naturally and doesn't like losing. it's not just in games but in work and personal life too.
if you are lagging, you can actually do something about it. close the game and reconnect. you'll have a better ping (most of the time)
this exist in all online games not just dota.
remember to only connect on servers close to your country so you wont lag.
just have fun and play the game.

The game takes dedication and a game is ruined if 1 player is unable to do anything. If he was a rage-kind of person, I could see him doing it. It's the same with basketball, no one is just going to walk off the field because that would ruin the game. Yet on the internet, there aren't any restrictions so you could leave or in your case, your connection started to stutter. Dota 2 doesn't get taken any more serious than any other kind of game that relies this heavily on teamwork, but people that haven't played anything like it get scared off.

I think people take MOBA games wayyy too seriously at the lower levels/skill levels. Not really sure if this is a problem in Dota 2 (even though I play it), but I know that when I played League it was tough for new players because most low levels were just smurf accounts, so they had the skill level of someone with probably hundreds of hours in the game. The issue with that comes up when those same people assume EVERYONE is a smurf account, just like them. This just led to new players getting raged at all the time.
I just think people take Dota 2 too seriously, even in game modes like single draft. Again, everyone expects everyone else to be good at everything. All too often I see people in single draft called noobs when it's most likely their first time playing that hero.
It's such a shame to see how toxic the communities for MOBA games are. It honestly surprises me that so many people play them considering how hard it is for new players to get into these games, and nearly all of that due to the community.

This is why I try to be extra nice on my smurf account. Even if they're doing something completely stupid I won't rage at them or anything. Maybe just a polite tip once in a while. As for my main account I always play 5 man pre-made so I never have to deal with pubs.

It actually makes us mad ALOT because for example, when i play League Of Legends ranked and i want to win, i always lose because my team feeds and dies alot!
