Me personally I’d like to give away games. And the only way I can do that would to be via steam keys obviously. So how do I do it? I already tried looking up the answer but the internet sucks.

Only game developers are allowed to create steam keys. They sell those keys in different marketplaces, like Humble Bundle, and you can acquire them. It's not possible to create a steam key on your own.

Ah unfortunate. Alright I did hear that humble is a good place to go for steam games. Thanks.

I think you're asking how to obtain (not create) Steam keys. You can buy them through reputable resellers like Fanatical, Humble Bundle, Indiegala, or Green Man Gaming. You can also get them from somewhat less reliable resellers like Daily Indie Game or G2A (but be ready to get a bad key every now and again).

Also, if you haven't read the site guidelines and FAQ (in the Help menu), I would spend some time there. It'll help answer a lot of questions as to how the site works. :)

Welcome!

Considering Onega said they would like to giveaway games it probably isn't a good idea to 'recommend' DIG or G2A ... any keys from them should be for personal use only - since you can't guarantee the key is correct.

Which is why I pointed out that they were less reputable sellers as well as providing the caveat on those particular ones. 😉

Reputable Resellers are his options.

Shady resellers like G2A, DIG etc. aren't good options because keys are partly stolen, bought with stolen credit card credentials etc..
Special when someone, like the OP, have obvious no experience and knowledge with such stuff.

Alright. Though I don’t think I’ll be doing that option though. If I’m not guaranteed a key then that could potentially get my account banned on this site. I don’t know about you but I like doing/entering giveaways.

Reputable stores like Fanatical, Humble Bundle, Indiegala and Green Man Gaming deliver always a key when you buy it.
There isn't a "not guaranteed".

Only avoid shady stores, that don't have the official licence to resell they keys from the publishers, and all is fine.

Yes. The first set of resellers that I mentioned are very trustworthy. I've had to ask for replacement keys or refunds at some point from most of them (I've given away a lot of keys 😉), and all of them helped with any issues I had with little to no trouble.

If the objective is to give away games, you can also directly gift them through Steam. You do not need to purchase or "make" a Steam key. Instead, you can friend request the winner, and then gift them a game.

BUT be careful doing it this way, due to price differences in countries there are some (or many) countries you might not be able to gift to.

Use a website like SteamDB to check the prices of all regions and compare this to your region. If, for example, Australia costs more then 10% price different, you can't gift that game to anyone in Australia.

Since Onega is from USA which is about the standard (average), there will be a fair few countries they can't gift to.

The user is from USA. He can gift almost every game, to almost every region. Not a problem.

You don't "Create" a key. You buy from a digital store that sells Steam games and you get a key. Then you make a giveaway with the key, like the two people you've won giveaways from.

I think it should be called how steam key is generated. Developers have option to do so as much as I know. We are customers and we buy/get games from different sources, but we do not generate. 💐

Humble Bundle has been mentioned, but Fanatical is also a GREAT place to get keys for cheap.

When it comes to the other key resellers mentioned that are less reputable, the worst case for you is the key failing, and having to replace it.

Even shady sites rely on repeat business, so the more reputable one's arent going to try and rob you like that. Also the keys on those sites are mostly just a few bucks, so not much of a loss.

All that said, i stick with Fanatical, HB, Steam sales, and a Steam Group where people do group purchases at times, to save a few bucks on a game, instead of waiting for it to be bundled.
