Hi,

Question is for MMOs since offline games are usually buy once, unless it has lots of DLCs, like RockSmith or Train Simulator. On the other hand MMOs are usually Free2Play + Pay2Pretty, offering large amount of "ingame" items ranging from weapons, armor, upgrades and so on. Considering how much one loves the game, a player can spend a big sum for the "time" he spent since most MMOs will eventually die due their 'online' nature.

Been there, done that and spent good sum on a single game that I could've have spent on buying top games. But IMO it worth it. So what's your amount?

L5GA

Thx.

Above $500. If i started counting the years in WoW, and other paid MMORPG's I played... I would have to quadruple that amount. At least quadruple it.

Was going to say nothing, but then I thought of something that might technically count, a sports management/gambling MMO (kind of).

Used to play a game called Raceclubs, it's an online virtual horse racing game. You buy, train and enter your horses into races against other owners. The races were in allsorts of categories, had entry fees and you won prize money. I broke even and when I left I took over £2000 out of my account and had won over £11000 in cumulative prize money.

Edit: Just reminiscing over this and looked up my account. Sold one horse in an auction for £384 (over $500), most expensive one I bought was £152 and that horse also got me my biggest win (£160) plus quite a lot of other smaller prizes. Used to play a much lower level for the most part though, and you could often find me in races that cost £2 to enter, and the winner would see about £10. There were some crazy figures in that and a couple of other virtual racing games, I remember one horse selling for £5000.

The thing is, I was dwarfed by quite a lot of people on there! This guy was playing when I was. No idea if he's in profit or loss, but look at his total earnings.

played Ogame for 5 years (back when Internet used to be shit) spent 0€/$ but a shitload of time
played Hawken for over 1000 hours haven't spent a dime on it, but since time isn't money and fun is most invaluable, i'd say a lot

basically paying for Free 2 Play is AUTO LOSING in my unhumble opinion (beside legitimately supporting a game lol)
^ anyway having spent the time for it worth a lot ...

I paid for a lifetime membership to LOTRO. I got it when they had a brief but fantastic sale for $99. Considering I never had to pay for a subscription after that it was worth it since F2P didn't start until I'd been playing for over 2 years.

I missed out on the DDO one Turbine ran when it was transitioning to F2P, and I"ve ended up paying ??? (at least $200) on VIP since then, so I think those lifetime subs were a great investment.

10 euro for some LoL skins. That's about it. Only stupid people spend insane amounts of money on these games.

Between my two WOW accounts, my wife's two WOW accounts since it started, and the kids accounts, plus transfers and stuff, WoW has seen thousands of my dollars over the years.

My wife still pays for her account, but I play F2P WOW now thanks to buying game time tokens w/ gold, and I buy the kids tokens so they can keep their accounts, too.

About $75 on the Dragonball Xenoverse Bundle a week before release.

Wait, no:
$110 on the Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Collector's Edition.
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD for PS4 cost that much as well.

I spent about $2000 on Tyrant CCG back in the day. Not an MMO but I assumed that was only mentioned because not many other types of games have so much ingame purchases. Other than that, I spent some in Guild Wars.

I put a lot of money into Maplestory back in the day. Can't say for certain, but with all the cubing (randomly assigning new stats to weapon/armor, costing about $1.5 each time) I did, plus the fairly expensive pet system... I'd say it was close to, if not over 200$. Doubt I went over the $500 threshold though

I've spent 239.775$ (based on the online calculator) for APB: Reloaded alone. And I can say its pretty much worth it since I've been playing since '11.

Approximately 200 euros on C9 - Continent of the Ninth Seal in 2013-2014. Before that about 50 euro-ish Fiesta Online back in 2007-2010.

I played Puzzle Pirates pretty seriously for about 4-5 years (until about 2011), easily sunk around $500 into the game for subscriptions for myself, family, and friends, as well as purchasing an item or two via paypal. That said, I made over $3000 by selling PoE (currency) and eventually selling off all of my virtual assets.

I spent about 100€ for LoL in 5 years playing, which for me is totally acceptable. Never spent money on MMOs though, since I find it way more fun to actually farm ingame money/items and buy what I want with that.
