Question for a CD Key

As long as it was valid to begin with, trying to activate it didnt lock it up. It should still be useable.

Maybe I can ask a Valve member if the key is still working ?

I would also like to know whether there is a way to determine if a key has/hasn't been used. (He bought the key 2 years ago, maybe he gave it to a friend/used it on another account, doesn't remember exactly and wants to be sure)
