I beat most of the game playtesting it at Monolith about 6 months ago and loved it, but I still agree with this. Why? Because there is always the chance that it could be a hackjob of a pc port that runs like stinky poo. The game is great, but I'm still waiting for reviews from trusted sources to see how good the pc version is. (I only playtested the Xbox One version)

As others have noted, pre orders are never a good idea. Would encourage you to read some reviews after launch and check some gameplay out first. Cheers! :D

As someone who did pre-order it due to having a bunch of keys leftover and got a great deal, I'd still say no. The game looks like it will rule. I hope it does. But if it doesn't, then you'll be bummed that you paid a bunch of money for it. If it does rule, you can pick it up the next day.
Pro of pre-ordering: a couple runes.
Pro of waiting: being sure it's positively reviewed and received before you give them money.

You're not gonna lose out by not pre-ordering it, whereas you will lose out if you pre-order it and then it turns out to be terrible, or goes on sale soon after (not very likely with big titles though)
I'm excited for it too, but wouldn't pre-order it even if I had the money xD I'll wait for it to go on sale, and by then I should be able to afford it, and I'll know whether it's worth buying at all :)

You should never pre-order anything.
Pre-orders are a holdover from the days of physical media. Stores would have a finite number of disks, and you pre-ordered to make sure you got yours on day one. Otherwise, you might have to wait until they restocked.
There's NO GOOD REASON to pre-order in the Internet Age.

Preloading. Especially on a really big release, watching your download rate dwindle to <500kbps from heavy server loads is a pain in the ass when you only have a few hours to play after work.
Bonus goodies. Not that it's ever really anything great... but on rare occasion, you might get a free game or something worthwhile. I got Resident Evil 5 when I pre-ordered Resident Evil 6, which is kinda cool, even if I never really did anything with it because of the lack of split screen and GFWL (to be fixed in the near future thankfully).
Basically I'm of a mindset of "if you're going to buy it day one regardless, then you might as well". Especially considering you can preorder the games for upwards of 50% or more off if you know where to look, so at the very least, you aren't pissing away full retail price if it doesn't work out.

While I don't generally agree with pre-ordering, it's not always true that there's no good reason to pre-order. I got Torchlight 1 free with my TL2 pre-order. That was plenty of reason for me.

I plan to buy it in 2 or 3 years, just in case WB decides to release a GOTY version which adds a new entry in your library... Yeah, I'm looking at you, Bruce...

If you're buying it day one regardless, then yeah... you might as well. Get the jump on preloading and whatever bonus goodies they're offering up.
If you aren't sure either way and aren't itching for it so bad that you buy it the second it's available, then there's no real benefit to preordering.

No. The publishers for this game are 'not planning to send review codes out until after the game is released' for PC. This is NOT a good sign at all..

"Should I pre-order"
No. Never pre-order. Ever. Ever.

I have pre-ordered Mordor, as the videos Ive seen lead me to believe that it will be good and I enjoy the universe it takes place in + I trust Monolith. I wouldnt get my panties too rankled about the no review keys until after release too much. This is starting to happen more and more. Hell, Destiny did not allow review copies until the day before release. I havent played that game so I cant say whether its good or bad, but most of what Ive read has been generally praise. I paid 1.70 for each key, so Mordor worked out to be about $20 for me. I live right across the river from New York City, so thats basically a night out for one around here, so its cost effectiveness works for me. The trade/region discount with Mordor isnt amazing (12 TF2 keys direct off the market right now is $29.40), but it was strong enough for me.
If its a console game, I agree completely with those that are adamantly against pre-orders. If it was not possible to get games cheaper than Steam price via trade, I would not pre-order at all most likely simply because $60/$50 vs $20 obviously is a big difference and the risk IMO is too great.
Steam's trading system allows us to get games from other regions, which obviously means cheaper. Case in point: I paid 8 TF2 keys for a pre-order of South Park Stick of Truth, just under $15 out of pocket. I activated it the day I got it (about 2 months before release) and a few months later the game was region locked (I didnt lose my copy) and the price has been nowhere near that since. There are definitely instances when pre-ordering on Steam is advantageous. I've never lost a game due to a retroactive lock. The key is activate immediately and dont sit on multiple copies.
Its really up to each individual person. If you're willing to risk buying a crappy game, go for it. More often than not I've been happy with games I pre-order on Steam. If Mordor is retroactively locked (hard to say from my perspective as I dont know WB's history of doing that), then you wont be able to get it for 12 keys after release. But if its a game you're merely considering or on the fence about, its probably best to wait.

i played 20 mins of the game at PAX. i liked it a lot. i have a feeling that its going to be pretty damn great. there was a lot to actually do in the game from what i saw. but it was a demo & only 20 mins. so i have no clue what the end game will be or if it will be repetitious or not, but from what i saw & played, it seems like it will be a great game with a lot of potential for future games like it. i dug the mechanics a lot. it had an assassins creed vibe with the stealth & jumping around but also a batman vibe with the fighting mechanics which i dug a ton. i will be pre-ordering it myself. we will see if i get screwed in the end.

Gotta say preordering most things are a risk due to how increasingly soddy even AAA games are these days.

I've been pretty excited about the upcoming (not really true to lore) Shadow of Mordor release and have been considering Pre ordering it. The question is, is it really worth it. I would love some feed back to help me make up my mind! Thank you :)
