A nice guy on an xbox hacking forum gave me an invite code back when it was an invite only site

I really wanted to try our Day Z mod. I wasn't sure if I would like it so I didn't want to spend the money up front. My buddy in my guild said that SteamGifts has some giveaways for it, so I decided to check it out. I entered every Arma giveaway I could find, hoping I would get lucky. Well, I wasn't so lucky, and the giveaways dried up. I decided that I would try the game anyways, and they had a 20% off sale, so I made the purchase. I kept telling myself, I would not do a giveaway until I won something, but I got tired of waiting so I decided to become a contributor before I become a winner and I never looked back!

I received a package without the sender's personal data. Inside there was a box with map of my country from ~300 years ago. State borders does not coincide with the borders in today's world but that wasn't the most important thing. The one and ultimate thing that made me curious was a small island on the Baltic Sea which don't exist now... I decided to leave everything and go to a place - where, according to map - should be an island. I packed my backpack and pockets and set off on an adventure challenge. I went to the port of Gdynia and hired the cheapest boat with perpetually drunk captain of this floating despair unit...
The boat was in a total ruin but I couldn't afford more because I wasn't sure if this adventure will bring me profits.
One look at the captain enough to say that he is an old sea wolf that has a huge knowledge of what he was doing all his life.
during a short chat, I learned that he sailed on the best from Europe. Unfortunately, he ended up like this on dirty boat after being ruined by a large corporation, for committing a "small" mistake on the sea, when he commanded - to throw overboard the son of a powerful businessman for trespassing on the bridge without permission. Shortly after his wife left him and took everything he had on divorce. Since than he did what he had left - sailed into the sea, together with people like me - for peanuts which were sufficient for the cheapest whiskey in a local bar.
According to the captain in the place where I wanted to go - in fact, where the map led me - there was absolutely nothing.
Even the fishermen could not catch anything there. Even if really there was no island. I just had to check that place because I live with the principle that nothing happens without a reason. Map looked authentic - and before leaving my friend paleoanthropologist checked it age to me.
Following blindly forward into the sea and hoping for a stroke of luck I received a blow in the face. Suddenly the wind and unleashed a storm - but the captain told me that he checked meteograms and there was not even the slightest threat from the weather. The boat began to take on water and the pump couldn't take care of the amount of it and finally died - I'm still not sure if it's from overwork or from old age.
The captain jumped from the deck and threw me a life jacket. Before the wave turned everything upside down - I managed to hide the map to a sealed wooden box in which the reason of my trip arrived - In a few seconds before hitting the wave I saw a bright light coming from the emblem on the box - Then I lost consciousness.
When I woke up - to my surprise - I was on a tropical island beach. It all did not make a pile - Powerful punch thrown me in a boat in the middle of the Baltic Sea and now I found myself a few meters from the tropical forest and at the entrance were large, tropical coconut palms. I decided that I would try to find a captain - or any sign of civilization to get help.
following along the beach came across a massive boulder - quite unusual thing in the centre of the beach - But what surprised me more on top of the boulder there was the same sign as the box with the map. I walked him around and found some other obscure symbols - one of them was in a central position and seemed to be the basis of all the other characters. I heard a rustle behind me and suddenly I felt a needle prick in the back of the neck and when I checked, what pricked me, my hand found a wooden dart driven into the side of my neck. Then I passed out again.
When I came to myself, it turned out that I was lying on a bench in the port. Next to me was lying a small wooden box - I threw myself into it and discovered that in the middle is only a screw cap on cheap whiskey with engraved characters SG.
It reminded me of captain of a small green boat, and the red name of it - Falcon. I started asking questions about it and its owner. However, none of the fishermen at the port nor any of the people in the bar couldn't give me any information - what more they looked at me like I was an idiot. Resigned, without a map I returned home and forgot about that case.
However, three months ago I came across an old junk whiskey nut lying from under the bed and typed SG on google graphic search. I found the most amazing, freaky tattooed girls with a crazy ideas. That's pretty all.
And going back to the topic: " how-did-you-find-steamgifts" I can clearly answer - I have no idea man, really no idea.
TL;DR:

Well, it was during last winter sale, I've read an article about daily deals (checking Steam's main page every day wasn't my habit yet) and seen people posting trading offers in the comments. There was one guy raging that if they want to trade, they should go to SteamTrades.com, which reminded me that I have some stuff laying in my inventory and I could maybe get something for it.

Since I've joined, I always wondered how others found about this great thing called Steamgifts.
Personally, it was through some searches about free Steam games on Google that I found this gem. :)
So how did you know about it?
