Only my 2nd time getting all six games completed. I'd probably have a better chance if I'd stop 100% games!

GOSH DARN IT CJ! A chance at P5S is too good to pass up, I'm getting exhausted, lol!
I was thinking of asking you how it was, haha. An action-style spin-off of Persona just sounds so much fun.
Okay, already finished a couple since this game got me so excited, haha.

would this game be enjoyable to a non-weeb? i like jrpgs, but the anime aspect isn't anything special to me, i could take it or leave it. i enjoyed games like the '.hack' series and 'catherine' if that helps. i've been doing these monthly events for so long that it'd feel weird to sit one out. i'd feel bad about winning a $60 game and having it go to waste though.
Comment has been collapsed.
good look, thanks. i watched up to the ~40 min mark, skipping through most of the dialogue. though i think i might like it, i think i'm gonna give myself a break and sit out anyways since i know this is a series people are passionate about. i have plenty of other games i need to catch up on as well.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, if you're not a fan of the characters and stuff it might not be as enjoyable, but I think the combat systems in this look nice enough still. It'd probably still be an interesting enough story that could interest you too, but it's always hard to tell if someone else would like it or not.
I haven't finished P5, but I rented it for a while and got through a chunk of it, though not enough to meet many of the Thieves, but enough to like Joker a lot and like the idea in general. That and the fact that I'm a major weeb tells me I'd probably love this game, haha. But yeah, fireball's suggestion might give you a better idea whether or not you'd enjoy it.

It's quite tempting but i'm not sure if i can do it this month, too many games to play, hahah. Maybe i'll skip this month.
okay, i'll give it a try.

Not sure if I'll enter the GA because I do have a lot of games to play, even though I'm working the backlog thanks to you CJ.
Still, I'll participate in the even regardless because I wouldn't know how to even pick games to play without you and PAGYW so thanks for keeping the motivation alive.
Alright so I decided on a few games. I'm playing Ghostrunner first (thank you CJ!) so I think I'll be going for light and fluffy next but oh wait... never mind :P
Soooo Immortal Redneck took me way way longer than expected. Thanks for nothing HLTB with your bum estimates :P but it was a blast.
Just not sure I'll have enough time for 5 other games this month though. It's going to be tight.
Decided on Outlast 2 next, which probably wasn't a good idea since I already have trouble sleeping. Wow. Freaky freaky game. I rushed through this one a little because I couldn't wait to get to the end. I'm definitely not a big fan of that type of horror game.
Had to follow up with something colorful and fluffy to wash my brain from Outlast so went with Wandersong. Much much deeper than I was expecting, and a little dark in story at times but a really fun experience with refreshing game mechanics that were really well used. I was kinda worried it would get repetitive but it didn't. The game also had lots of fun nuggets here and there if you take your time and talk to all the characters, which hmmm took me longer than expected so I'm going to scratch my initial choices and go for shorter games to finish the month.
And since I was all happy and fluffy, I went for Still There aaaaand.... who's crying? I'm not crying, you're crying! Almost forgot to do a screenshot of the credits because I was fumbling for tissues. Don't play it if you are too proud to cry in front of your screen. But hmm yeah besides the story, which is good, and well told, the gameplay was a bit random at times. Lots of menial tasks and fixing things which come in 5 or 6 steps. It felt tedious and I probably wouldn't have stuck with it if I hadn't felt so hooked by the overall story.
Truberbrook was better than expected. It's a really pretty game with a good heart and humor and a touching story. I was surprised to see it had a mixed score on Steam. I guess it has a little too much of an "indie movie" feel to it. Some underdeveloped characters, slow burn kind of pace, maybe too much existential undertone for some, I don't know. I'll play it again (actually wanted to keep the other ending for my next playthrough but the end I got first bummed me so much, I had to reload and go through the other one instead)
Frog Detective 2 was really really to make up for lost time. Read it was better than the first one. Guess it must have been an April's fools joke.

Youropa | Jul 2017 | 7/14 | 6.4 Hours | Completed |
Control was a blast. I really enjoyed the mechanics and I do agree with people calling it a 3D metroidvania. It definitely feels like it fits the bill for that.
Also, (Control spoiler) The fake out credits screen was a trip. I didn't think the hedron sequence was the end, but I was not expecting that
The Frog Detective games continue to charm me as cute and funny bits. Too short, but still a nice and light-hearted experience.
Iris and the Giant was a game that made me feel more than I expected, not including frustration at the difficulty of it. Great story and a pretty cool deckbuilder.
Path of Giants was a pretty fun puzzle game. A bit too easy overall, but a pretty relaxing game and I enjoyed it.
Wandersong was absolutely adorable. Super interesting mechanically with almost no traditional style combat. Some of the platforming was tedious in execution, but overall, I absolutely adored it.
Youropa was interesting. It's a puzzle platformer, but the controls were awkward and the gimmick didn't feel complete. Honestly, if they had given more abilities to start with instead of a very slow progression, I think the game could've been a lot better. Still, it wasn't bad, but just felt like the initial concept was sound, but the nerfed the character too much to do less than they could've.

YES!!!!
Wandersong was really beautiful and I enjoyed a lot about it. Not flawless, but still a wonderful experience. I think it could've used a little more guidance with puzzles in some areas though.

Frog Detective 1 + 2 | I felt absolutely nothing from these games. Despite being less than an hour each, they felt slow as hell, mainly because the dialogue is so drawn out. On top of that, every character is the same "quirky" archetype with virtually no variety. Would not recommend, would refund if I didn't get it in a bundle. |
Wildfire | Loved it, fantastic little stealth game with non-linear levels and plenty of ways to solve every challenge. Can't think of anything wrong with it, aside from the slightly underwhelming boss at the end. Definitely recommend, will play again. |
XCOM 2 | Liked it. The game does an excellent job enhancing and expanding on Enemy Unknown. RNG is pain. |
Werewolf | Liked it. Thought it took a while to get going but it's great when it does. Unfortunately it comes in a little short, though, but I definitely want to replay this one. |
SOMA | Existential dread/10, made me question existence several times. The monster sections could be a bit tedious but the narrative more than made up for them, overall, Soma was a game that'll stick with me forever. |

I didn't get the enthusiasm about the Frog Detective games either. Very glad I didn't pay for those!
And even on the most basic level, there is zero investigation. You just talk and talk to people with long and bland dialog and you collect stuff and switch it around to other people.

Finished Path of Giants. Next I think I'll play the sequel to that Frog Detective game that Fluffster loved so much last month... ๐
Frog Detective 2 is quite charming, and incredibly short ๐
Control is great. Although I enjoyed the story/lore and atmosphere a lot more than the combat, such that the infinitely respawning enemies became quite tedious... ๐ฃ
Finding Paradise turned out pretty well after a bit of a weak start, maybe I would have been more into it if I'd played the first one ๐
Still There is excellent, very well written, although I don't think I completely understood it ๐ค
(Hard Reset Redux is bad, gonna give up on that one ๐)
Vampire: The Masquerade - Shadows of New York is pretty good. I don't normally play/read visual novels but the world of VtM has always intrigued me (I never quite got around to trying the "proper" games Redemption or Bloodlines)

Finding Paradise turned out pretty well after a bit of a weak start, maybe I would have been more into it if I'd played the first one ๐
Nah. Played both and I can confirm the start of the game is slow. Takes them a little bit of time to get where they're going I guess.
Still There was a trip, to say the least. An emotional one but some things felt straight out of an arthouse Russian movie from the 60ies or something
Comment has been collapsed.
Would you recommend To the Moon? Is it better than the second one? I think I started it a while ago, but I seem to remember I gave up before the story got going. ๐
I've not seen many Russian art-house movies ๐ but yeah it was a bit weird, I couldn't tell which things were supposed to be real and which things were just in the guy's head. Unfortunately after reading the comments from the writer in the Steam discussions it looks they might not entirely know either, the phrase "open to interpretation" was used, which always kind of annoys me a bit... ๐
Comment has been collapsed.
I wouldn't really recommend To the Moon if Finding Paradise didn't really strike your fancy. It's more of the same. I did find the story more immersive after a slow start, but it still plays a lot more like a visual novel with long dialogs than like an actual game, imo.
the phrase "open to interpretation" was used, which always kind of annoys me a bit...
Heh yeah I've seen that. Makes me feel like a sucker but also makes me want to play the game again just to figure out what my interpretation really is. Double sucker I guess ;)

Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.
The prize: Personaยฎ 5 Strikers
Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.
Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.
FAQ:
Why you doing this?
I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for over five years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.
I've played the first X minutes of a game, can I pick it for the event?
No. You cannot have any play time or achievements prior to the start of the event. The only exception is idle time from farming Steam cards.
Can I play a MP only game?
No. It needs to have an "end" in order for me to count it as beaten, so it needs to have a campaign/story mode.
Why six games?
The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.
How long are you going to do this?
Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.
This event "ends" on April 6th when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time.
Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and don't forget to wish the cat a Happy Birthday.

Note: I know this event started before the last one has ended. If you complete a game during this period, I'll let you decide if you want to use it for this event or last month. Can't be both, sorry.
Honestly, I never thought I would be doing this event for a whole year. It has been a very shitty year, but I hope this event has provided a bit of joy to some of you here. Thanks for taking part :)
