Wow... that's a great video! Yep! Open world RPG games are awesome. I have played all three of those mentioned. I loved Morrowind the most as far as settings, but Oblivion was my favorite of the three to actually play. Skyrim became too arcade, but is still fun as well.

I did not see this coming.. Started out as a 16bit RPG tune (even the picture looks like one!) and.. well that escalated quickly..
listenable..

Yep, I have several albums from Shaman, and also Andre Matos self-stuff also. ;)
I am glad they split though - I loved Edu Falaschi as well - even more in some instances... I stopped listening to Angra when Lione joined. I just... think he's more for Rhapsody. Every other band he joined... it got worse. I still think he's a great vocalist, but never "fit" anywhere else for me.
I loved his (Andre Matos) rendition of Painkiller! He's got a really incredible skill with control over his voice - with the falsetto and power from chest to head, if that makes sense, based on lyrical judgement ^
Another kinda similar band is Eyes of Shiva. One of their albums was pretty darn good, and the other not bad either. Aquaria as well... for the tribal-esque influenced stuff.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention Almah also - if you like Edu. And Symbols too. :D
Khallice is another really badass prog band from Brazil. I believe their guitarist is in Almah with Edu and Andreoli...
Kallice is odd, off-timed, and the vocalist is really amazing - especially live! One of my favorite true prog bands. All parts are experts on their instruments.

I'm a big fan of Angra and Andre Matos. I have unfortunately never been able to see Angra live, but I went to a festival back in 2004 and Shaman was one of the bands in it. It was just like 10 songs long but was one of the most amazing concerts I've been to. They played a cover for No More Tears, I found a recording from 2006 but it's not that great: https://youtu.be/TIV22RtwLh0?t=66
I can't say I don't have mixed feelings about Matos split with Angra, but I do agree that Falaschi was amazing, especially when he got his own songs made for his vocal range. Like, I didn't like his singing in most of the Matos songs in Rebirth World Tour, and Carry On was just terrible. But Temple of Shadows is probably my favorite album ever. I'm also not a fan of Lione but they did also have an amazing job in adapting their sound to his voice once again. I like a few of their newer songs.
BTW, you linked a lot of great songs I didn't hear in a while in this thread, so thank you for the nice trip down the memory lane :)

You're welcome! Most is around that same era, since it was my favorite time in metal - newer power and prog seems too washed out and it's stretched into all sorts of things... diluted or something? Sounds too commercialized too, mostly. I don't know, but that was kind of the "golden zone" for me as far as listening went. So... I listened to lots of good power and prog bands. :3
I agree with Falaschi not doing so great on many Matos tunes. Angra's super-versatile, so I'm glad they can create a nice sound for whatever happens to shift and change. Adaptation is a key factor - and they're probably one of the best groups altogether that I can think of as far as how good each spot in the lineup is at playing their respective instruments. Only Adagio rivals them for me, personally. ^_^

I got into metal in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and yeah, it was the best time for metal music for me too. I guess what I like about those is that recordings sounded more "raw" or something. Though I'm sure it has a lot to do with nostalgia, too.
Indeed, the huge range of sounds and influences alongside the technical prowess and song complexity they evolved as they've progressed in their career is what draws me to their songs so much. The 2003-2007 lineup was their best IMO. If you watch their members performing individually (like Aquiles Priester and Felipe Andreoli) you can see how intricately built their songs really are. I don't think I've seen anything like that elsewhere.
Can't say I listened to Adagio before but you got me curious so I'll check them out
Comment has been collapsed.
The first three or four Adagio albums are spectacular. Underworld is... something I can't even classify. :D
Aquiles Priester is a beast! No drummer I've ever seen can do the type of wild shit he can do, and so effortlessly!
The only song on Underworld I always skip is Promises. It's really ballad-esque and cheesy to me. :3
Franck Hermanny is my favorite bassist, and Stephan Forte on guitar plays 7 and now 8 string guitar. He's a true virtuoso, well... both of them are ridiculous. Franck Hermanny's videos on youtube are fucking insane! He loops - makes really cool shit a lot of times. Love how he's mastered about every technique to near-perfection on bass. I play bass, and that's who I aspire to be more like. I play 6 string bass mostly, myself.
There's a big black Ibanez SR706 he plays on some stuff - it's black - mine's more... black with a grain finish - hard to explain. I have the same bass, and I love it!
I'm kinda like a shredder bassist... like Paul Gilbert-ish.. but on bass instead (Can play the Racer X stuff on bass). Kinda like Billy Sheehan I guess? But my technique is a bit different - and more unorthodox.
Comment has been collapsed.
Really cool that you play 6 string bass, is it hard to move up from 4 strings or is it just something you naturally do once you're already good at it? Also, are you part of a band or do you play for fun?
I used to play guitar but I never considered myself that good. I was quite lazy and unmotivated, so I progressed really slow. I had to quit playing because of a strain injury on my left arm/wrist, it was over a decade ago but the pain still haunts me to this day. I used to be bitter about not being to play anymore but I'm past that now. Don't need to play an instrument to keep on enjoying music.
And yes, Priester is amazing, but I'd say it's more that he makes it look effortless. There's a video a few months back of him trying to get right a section of a song from his previous band Nocturnall and he did it it dozens of times, it was nice to see that even him struggles at times and that he workd hard to fix his shortcomings.
I looked up Hermanny and Forte (a bit hard to find his stuff) videos, they're quite impressive! I knew Sheehan from Mr. Big, but had never really looked up his solo stuff, he's also really good. I have a soft spot for talented bassists and drummers because they're the backbone of a band, yet guitarists get all the fame. Glad to add more names to the list of people to look up to :3

Taj is a great Sheehan song. It's instrumental, but even the other stuff is good off that one album - Cosmic Troubadour. I think it's my favorite one of his.
For Priester, Hangar has some beautiful frills from him. He really makes that band sound amazing! Their first 2 or 3 albums are sweet! ;)
And... for bass. I started with a 4 obviously, and still use them sometimes. But I also had a 5-string pretty early in. It wasn't much of a transition from 4 to 5. They seem about the same to me, and I guess that's why many bands use 5's in metal if they're gonna go up at all, since it's generally going to be a lower B string, rather than anything else, so... naturally I liked that because I could play an Open E with the 5th fret in, if I tuned it standard-ish. That's what I liked about using 5's. Being able to play everything slightly higher on the neck, so to speak... But going to 6 is a beast! It's a different animal altogether. I struggled with it for a while, and now it's the reverse. I feel like I'm gripping mostly air when I try to go back to 5 or 4 string. The necks are soo much smaller, especially at higher registers.
I have lyme, arthritis, fibro, chronic fatigue, and other stuff, so I cannot play like I used to. I could play anything out there by ear and learn it very fast... used to play some, out and about, but never anything big. I was still young when I started to get very ill from the lyme, and the osteoporosis I probably already had in my early 20's... but now that I'm mid 30's, it's gotten to where my pinky finger gives me sharp sharp pains (feels like it's getting stabbed with a needle or something, but more like a pressure/pinchy icey feeling... I can't describe it properly). But yeah, that's really gotten me to where I cannot play much these days. I have had to alter my style, and I can't abuse the neck as much as I used to, which has always been vital to my shredding... I can still play, but I just have to improvise many times. I don't even mess with 7 string bass at all, or above. Too much trouble, and I don't get enough impact over a 6 string, which I feel right at home with. I have a regular Ibanez SR 706 6 string, and I also have an acoustic fretless 6 string. Both are pretty damn fun. Transitioning from fretted to fretless has been a bigger challenge than goin from 4 to 6 strings though. I can still do pretty well for myself, even with all my disabilities, but I can't play anymore... not for a long-term thing.
One of my favorite things, so it's tough to deal with... and I agonize about it, since it's too painful to really play much these days, but I can still listen to great tunes!
As far as another bassist or two I love listening to, Felipe Andreoli of Angra and Lars Norberg (nothing live really I can dig up, but Spiral Architect has badass bassery throughout!) are great. Dionysus's bassist, Nobby Noberg is amazing too. A pretty solo on that one. I love their sound! The guitarist is insane too! Probably one of the more underrated "studio" bands for power metal. Oh, and I couldn't find it, but Daedalus has some pretty basslines. Leading Far From a Mistake is an incredible album. Song 2 (after the intro song) is beyond euphoric for bassists... I love their sound, and the bass tone is beautiful on most of their work (but don't like Daedalus's vox so much). Then there's Mario García. I can definitely go on and on with hundreds of awesome peoples!
Also if you have some cool suggestions, I'm glad to look around too! Liking when I can expand my own musical experience index. :3

Your condition sounds rough. I don't really have any idea if speaking my mind is appropriate so I apologize if I say anything I shouldn't. But reading things like what you wrote make me feel like I take way too many things for granted. And it's not like my injury that it's solely my fault I pushed over my body's limits, the fact that getting such diseases just happen out of nowhere is profoundly bothersome to me. It feels outright unfair.
But I do admire that despite all that you still kept doing what you enjoyed. You talk with a lot of passion and it really shows what the instrument means to you. I'd like to thank you for telling me that, it was both very instructing and inspiring.
I appreciate the suggestions, they're all great. Though I'm really bad at recommending stuff, being insecure and fearing I'd disappoint and all. But let's see.
Something I like a lot is following members of Angra on Youtube. Andreoli and Priester as mentioned earlier. Kiko's really nice because he plays and teaches stuff, and he also talks a lot about being a guitarist and gives advice to people aspiring to become professional, albeit a lot of his videos are in Portuguese and they don't have subtitles, unfortunately. Here's an interesting lecture about him relearning to play his old solos. Also Luis Mariutti started making videos this year, he also plays and teaches stuff, but lately he mostly does vlogs and live streams answering fans' questions but it's all Portuguese only. His video teaching Carry On, the talking part is not in English but the playing parts are great.
(And yeah, I know it's weird to watch lectures when I'm not learning the stuff but I really enjoy seeing things explained and how things I like "work". Also reminds me of the old times)
Speaking of Kiko, his solo works are really good. Dream Circle and No Gravity are just beautiful.
I also like Marco Hietala's (bassist from Nightwish and Tarot) works, though what I enjoy the most is his singing, his voice is amazing. In fact I find it a shame he sings so little in Nightwish. Tarot - Ashes to the stars Live
Also like Edguy a lot, but I'm sure you know them. This is my favourite song of theirs - Tears of a Mandrake
BTW, amidst all the stuff I remembered about because of this thread, there was Within Temptation. My friends used to make fun of me in high school because I listened to them. It was my guilty pleasure back then. Dark Wings was my favourite, but listening to it now it didn't age that well!
Dunno how's that for suggestions, but damn, I wrote way more than I thought I did lol. Anyway, have a good day and take care.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I liked Kiko's solo projects a lot. They had all kinds of varied styles and sounds to them. Not just metal. I think Tears of a Mandrake is probably one of my favorites too. I have several that are right up there, since a lot of Edguy sounds similar to me, in a beautiful kinda way. I always liked Tobias Sammet's vocal capabilities. Something special about that sound. Did you like his Avantasia projects? The first one was a friggin masterpiece I thought, while I liked the other one(s) a bit on certain parts, but not like the original. Though a few songs were silly or too ballad-y for me on the first two part one also. Still Metal Opera was amazing shit!
Nightwish - I wish I could like, but the vocals are too much for me to handle, as much as I like the music. :D Tarja - even when they changed to Floor Jansen... just can't handle it, personally. :3 I appreciate the artistry there though, definitely. Some songs on Wishmaster are really great!
I'll definitely be checking out some of those Kiko videos. He's definitely my favorite guitarist as far as what he can do with both his hands playing the instrument. It's like "mega-Van Halening" it... or something. He definitely makes famous lists of "best shredders" look stupidly immature in comparison. Now that he's with Megadeth, I'm sure all that is changing... at least for him. There are so many ridiculous ones back there in prog and power though. It is unbelievable! But yeah, Kiko's trickerations and changing the tempo in leads on the fly is without question one of my favorite things... gives the technique, plus has the feel elements when necessary - complete package. :)
EDIT: I searched the vaults and.. I found a clip of me play bass years ago... and I didn't know my gf was recording me. Sound is horrible, and I was messing around. You can see it if.. you want. I don't like sharing of myself, and I never wanted people recording me. If you're interested though, it's hard to hear and/or see, but you can hear some flourishes I'm doing and a few arpeggios etc. Nothin' special. I was warming up...

MAKING STEAMGIFTS GREAT AGAIN: SUPERFABS EDITION!
ANOTHER DOWN! HOW MANY MORE TO GO? We shall see!
PLEASE NOTE ADDENDUM added 12/26 Thanks!
So, I was planning on running daily giveaways, but I got cut off. Anyway, I'm going to make it three days each in honor of my three day hiatus. Since some people haitus... GET IT! ;)
So, I see many haven't figured much of anything out yet, with my rules and stuff. A lot of fails this round. Some have met requirements, however. Enough to at least not be blacklisted. I was surprised how many got whitelisted this round though. Wasn't expecting that. I better add a good one now, since people are going down too fast and they might not get good chances after this one.
Wanted to note: I'll be checking some whitelists for custom rules I have too - and maybe removing them or blacklisting them for some of the event. If you're removed, you'll get a notice from me, but otherwise my rules remain the same. If you pass my whitelist check for that round you're okay for that round. I only will alter at the end phase of each giveaway, after tallying entries.
Try and put the pieces together and survive - if you are on the bubble or otherwise. Of course, this could all be a bunch of crap, much like the various mish-mash of convoluted rules here on steamgifts... that nobody cares to/wants to fix because either: a) they are brown-nosers, whether by choice or what they feel is "security/survival", thereby creating "social cliques", another primal and completely natural phenomenon between most "neurotypicals", or b) they simply don't care because of neuroplasticity breakdowns - trauma, mental health, genetics, upbringing, etc., or c) they settle for mediocrity and want to be part of the status quo - probably again going back to point 1 with security and survival - the "I didn't see anything", because they don't want to become targeted themselves kind of scenario... The result(s) being of course: no changes are enforced for the betterment of society, whether on a small scale like steamgifts, or a larger forum, like cities, countries, and beyond. Then you end up living in a hopeless, shitty, dystopian society full of greed, much like the world today.
Most humans are blatantly stupid or desensitized to this fact, or blinded/distracted/pacified by the wrong things, making them stupid by default (at least in one area or another, all are), so I can't blame them for what they do not know or understand. Smart people just took control, but dumber ones let them. Psychological Warfare has taken advantage of this, and most are unseeing and brainwashed now. None can escape this power to one extent or another.
As one mentioned in a conversation I had on steam, and with a degree of accuracy of the system here and otherwise, please take note of the following:
There are others, but these are good enough for references:
These leave some unanswered questions perfectly logical in my mind now.
These "fragmentations" are reserved for the realm of thinkers and problem solvers. The age of thinkers is long dead.
In honor of my next giveaway, and my music-related topic of discussion I updated, so that I can allow myself the joy of sharing links to music on steamgifts, I present: Symphony X - The Odyssey
Here's your giveaway: Instead of 1 per day, you now have 3 days!
Assassin's Creed® Odyssey
Note: By the way, friending me early can help if you win and I cannot gift it directly to you due to Steam implementations. You can find out more about me here if you are curious if you're out of bounds as far as regions go, if you know how to check against Steam's regional differences shit. Anyway... you're 100% safe if you're in the USA, to put it in slightly simpler terms, or for those who don't check my profile. Everywhere else is questionable. :)
Gift cards take three days of being friends before one is allowed to trade 'em! Just saying! Also, mention in commens why you're adding me, or I will probably just cross-check any I come across...

Can you believe it?! Two of you spared yourselves after being blacklisted!! You can enter another round. It can be the next one, the one after.... just be careful you try and make up for your mistake, if you can figure it out. That's what we're going to have to do to gain immunity here.
Of course again, that goes for anyone else that is still around, yet not whitelisted. Mysterious! :3
Wow this is getting to be a long read... I'll keep adding from the top down. ;) More fun that way! Look out for surprises though! :P
Starting at the top now! It is now 12/14 nearly here! Wow, insanity is fun!
PLEASE TAKE NOTE HERE:
Mood musicNot many on the blacklist yet! How to advertise more to get people to join!! Too few. If you’re still around, yet not on my whitelist, I hope you can try and find out… why you passed (though it was around 50% that met the requirements needed to join my new bolstered whitelist, in preparation for rule changes, and having that complete immunity now for being a joy in my eyes), or do something to improve your chances to stick around! I’m going to slowly tighten my leash a little as we go, just to give those who have proven their worth a better chance at the tasty treats on the way!
Oh, by the way, since I’m going to be stalking you, I suggest you do the same by stalking me here if you’re trying to get on my good side. What would improve your chances of having immunity? What would make me want to blacklist you? It’s worth trying to figure out how to please me at my game of madness, if you are on the threshold of fail by not being on my whitelist, or if you haven’t participated yet. Just a friendly suggestion! By no means are you required to do any of this ;)
Learn about me with Steam, steamgifts, and your own judgement and heart as your guiding light if you want to take this seriously, and become worthy of the greatness of WINNING! It doesn’t take much effort, and neither does adding somebody to a blacklist. ;)
For those who have fallen from my good graces and are blacklisted: If you feel you have been wronged, and think I am a cruel master, you could also grovel and beg me on Steam for forgiveness. Pleading your case also helps, as to why you think I have made a mistake. I warn you though: I rarely make mistakes, so please make sure you have a clear case to present.
I… did all that I could in my power to save you… while being fair to those who were able to accomplish more, and raise their appreciation level status/morale/affinity bonus in spite of my highly critical and judgemental viewpoint.
Maybe you did not read… Maybe you didn’t do much of anything to improve your situation. Maybe you simply don't care and wanted me to blacklist you, with a shot at a free game to +1. No matter what the choice is... You have to go get what you want! You must give it your all! To win, you have to visualize your plan of attack, and do not hesitate. That is all for now. You will be missed.
Based on the Steamgifts Attrition concept, I found myself thinking, as I am going to be semi-departed, so to speak, and I have soo much to give away yet... What should I do with some of this "stuff"?
I'm going to be creating a massive blacklist because, as a whole, I don't like most of you, and let us be honest: you do not like me.
FIND YOURSELF AND WIN! Someone will win! Brush that fear aside and fight for your true self - your true being...
So here is your chance to jump on and also possibly benefit in the process, as it will help me further ostracize myself from the community via cross-blacklisting magic (remember, I can no longer enter your giveaways either once I have you blacklisted, so you cannot lose here - probably), and help you to make a possibly tough choice involving this decision. The games will end when the cap is at its limit.
The rules are simple. You join a created giveaway, and if you stay there upon the end of the giveaway results, you get a blacklist from me as I move through the list of entrants. It isn't lifted. I will continue doing giveaways until I amass the maximum number of allowable blacklist slots on steamgifts. I may only get one in, if the cap is low, but I may add better or worse games over time... so yes, fate is in your hands if you want to play. If you lose, then it's game over!
This is a perfect chance to get onto mine if you dislike me already and want a chance at winning a game. If I'm already on your blacklist, I left a decent amount of time to remove me from your own for cooldowns, and I have also purged my own list completely to start the winter festivities!
Choose wisely, and only if you really think it's worth being on a blacklist that I may never remove you from. No tricks... I doubt I'll be giving much to the community anyway overall, so what is there to lose? Right?! Right?! ;-)
There is a catch: For the lucky of the unlucky that win each game: You may relieve yourself of blacklist status after giveaway ends by both playing a game and writing a review, and sending it my way via Steam. You'll also need to provide proof that you finished the game. If the RNG fails to pick you, and you are an entrant at end of giveaway, and don't meet below exceptions, too bad so sad...
If you do win, and you can provide the goods, you'll have to add me though - unless you want to stay on the list. Of course, the choice is yours and it is optional.
I will be doing giveaways here until I have the maximum amount of users on my blacklist.
There are exceptions to this rule:
If you're on my whitelist, you are immune to being blacklisted. I may decide to blacklist you if you do not wish to play the game, or write a review. Probably not, but I also may consider removing you from whitelist, if I was lazy and you got by some of my last few "whitelist filter checks". :D
If I am in a group you are also in where blacklisting other members is prohibited, please contact me or do a whitelist check to make sure I do not accidentally blacklist you unfairly, since some rules are allowed on steamgifts in groups here (wow, it's meta-strange to say such things, but that's how we roll here), and some are not.
I may also break my own rule and grant immunity in the midst of things - if certain secret requirements are met. There are several ways to attain this status involving multiple parts. You will find them hidden amongst this site if you are curious... But you may not find what you are looking for if you go about searching in the wrong way. Try not to overthink it! Just be a kind person... ;)
I also will state that if you want this event to be prolonged, I suggest being careful not to bombard a single giveaway with all the entries required to create a blacklist over-run. The first 1k will be on. Whether it's 1 giveaway, or I go through thousands to get there... Remember, acting as a group to accomplish what you may or may not want here is a nice goal to have - a "singleness of purpose" so to speak.
I will add you to my whitelist to avoid any confusion - if you're in these said groups with certain rules and restrictions I am to abide by, so that'll keep you from getting blacklisted. If you are not on my whitelist, feel free to message here or in steam, once again!
We'll start out small, and get bigger and bigger, like a hot dog, or a pool float, for instance. Or boob implants. Anyway, if you aim to eventually be on my list, choose wisely! I will not keep a schedule, as of yet... haven't thought it through enough.
Without further ado! Round Number One! In case you can't see it, giveaways presented below in the discussion on first comment reply!
