stop going on steam and stop going on steam-related sites and find a new hobby. preferably, one that you already have friends doing/participating in.

take a break off steam and do something else for a few weeks to a month, then come back and play your vidya. It's not going to disappear. You don't have to abandon the platform. You just need to disassociate it from being your main hobby.

If you get enjoyment out of buying games and adding them to your library, what's the problem? Money comes and goes. There are plenty of other people out there who collect worse things.

If you feel you're losing more than you're gaining, you should stop. But I honestly don't know why you find buying games so addictive. When you see an offer, just say no. We're not dealing with class A drugs here lol.

You have 150 games over 3 years and have around 10+ hours in alot of them. I don't think you have a problem yet, you just aren't prioritizing correctly.

Buy games as a gift and store them in your inventory. Then you can think about whether you actually want to play them and if you do add it to your library but if you don't you could trade it, giveaway it away, ect.

I have the same, but there's a good compromise for that. Limit yourself to buying ie. games up to 3€ and just one 'proper' game per month (change it however you want according to how much money can you actually spend, but once you set it, don't change it).

By the entire steam catalog. Then you wont have as much stuff to buy.

Keeping your budget in mind, make a very short list of the games you will allow yourself to purchase this year, mostly thinking of whatever's actually releasing.
Only buy those games. You don't even have to pre-order them, just keep yourself restricted to them.
AND NEVER CHANGE THE LIST

This helps a lot to alleviate the guilt of actually purchasing a game, and if it's on your list, you will probably play it.

Inevitably, there will be some surprises that you'll want to buy that aren't on the list. Set aside a specific dollar amount for those. Once that's run dry, you're done for the year, no matter what pops up. This helps you decide if you really want to buy that game, since it drops your budget for other games that might release or go on ludicrous sale later in the year.

I'd like to say that this has almost worked for me since February, except... bundles (though I've cut down there quite a bit too).

No matter the deal, dont buy any more games until you have finished your backlog.
See how long your backlog lasts now :P

1) Put steam in offline mode.
2) Cancel internet provider.

put them in a tax free savings account so you can't get the money easily (You need to go/tall to your bank directly before you can get money)

I'm buying games when there are sales and most of them go into my backlog, but it's ok, since I can't really play all of them due to the poor performance of my computer and I definitely will play all of them when I will have a new gear.

Give yourself a monthly gaming budget and stick with it. You could do this via funds with your Steam Wallet. Buy a certain amount of Steam Wallet funds on the first, and you can only add on the first, so if you run out before then, tough luck, but if you have anything left over it carries to the next month. You could also reward yourself for finishing a backlogged game by allowing yourself to add a small amount before the first. That way you also have incentive to get through those games you bought. Or you can base your monthly budget on the number of games you finished the previous month.

Though I know bundles is where I have the most issue, so you may also want to do something with Paypal funds to give a budget for bundles as well.

If you don't earn money for yourself but taking from your parents for example, think about it, you're hurting their hard work primarily. If that's not the case than there're useful comments above.

I suffered from the same thing, but I don't only make my Steam Library big, I buy phisical games and don't play them. But I think I'm slowly getting out of it, just think - "I don't have money for that" or "I don't need it". It might take a lot of will, but it's working for me usually. Recently even when I see a great deal.

Set real targets rather than a more general aim like 'buy fewer games', that way it's easier to see if you're meeting the aim or not.
How about a rule where you can only buy a new game when you have completed 2 of the ones you have in your library, or racked up 15 hours in each or something. That way you'll cut your backlog, not feel bad about not playing games, and still get to buy some....just not as many.

What helped me was the removal of Click&Buy from the Steam payment options. Although I do have a paypal account, I only used Paysafecard to add money to my wallet. Since it's bothersome to get these, I usually don't pay more than 25 - 50 € per month on games since then.
