That would be nice if there's a button to reject Dead Revival to be used on myself.

If someone's resurrection period is almost finished, Dead Revival will be wasted on that player, and bad effects on him too.

I finished! Do we wait for a link to the private GAs? Was I rash to rush out as soon as I found the heart?
Thanks for doing this. I know I tend to complain (inherited trait I dislike), but I appreciate the hard work and generosity :-)

Sorry, but I really gotta express my frustration here, after wasting days due to a couple of things here.
Don't get me wrong, because I really like the game, when it's playable.
I went from the top ten right down to shitsville after going to the lower dungeon. Admittedly, I wasn't prepared enough, because I didn't have enough ep-potions, but normally you find a couple of those on the way. Soon I hit this major chokepoint - let's call it "disorientation-alley". You know.. the one with the beholder. I go down the alley, check all walls and then get disoriented (silly me). So I try to get out of the alley, wich didn't work because having only random forwards and backwards movement, you tend to go backwards more than you like and in this case get disoriented again (which should be different, as of now).
After bouncing back and forth a few times, I was through with my ep-potions, disoriented, in a long corridor of checked walls without potions. No one around to use my ep-ability on or trade with. Took me a very long time slowly nudging back and forth only to die running into something.
After dying, using my only phoenix blood, I got killed by a player.
So we proceed into a mage resurrection cycle, which infuriated the fuck out of me. You know - you wait for normal respawn, but you get resurrected after 80% of the wait time (every time). If you can't get rid of all the debuffs, you're likely to die again, which in turn gets you resurrected again. With the lower respawn timer, this should be slightly alleviated, but still it's really annoying to come back to the game after a while (thinking you wait for your energy to recover after respawn), just to find out, you're sitting there with full energy and debuffs.
Also, why is every character in the game a haemophiliac? And why is the barbarian the worst class in the game?
Before I came here to rant uncontrollably, I think I ran into a bug (or a feature) that was the cherry on top of my dying-sundae. I died, still bleeding and blind from a mage-res and instantly popped a phoenix blood I found, but that resurrected me still bleeding and blind. It shouldn't do that, does it?
Sorry again for ranting. I know balancing is difficult, but spending days wanting to play the game and not properly being able to, is very annoying. Otherwise, I really like the game (as I said) and for a hobby project it's quite fun. Keep up the good work.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think you need to wait for the clock to show , otherwise when you resurrect with phoenix blood (not with the phoenix armor) will keep the debuffs :( Happened to me about 4 times, after that I always wait for the counter to show (Sometimes I play on an old machine)

Hi demonic29A, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Disorientation effect has one little "secret" - when choosing a direction to go/check when you are disoriented, one of the 3 other directions will be chosen randomly (and not the one you actually choose) - so if you are disoriented and want to go West - click the opposite direction (East) and you will have a chance to actually go west.
Most complaints seem to be caused by either Disorientation or Dead Revival (the mage's ability) - I noted it and will think of ways to make things better here.
There was a bug indeed that made you keep all negative status effects if you applied Phoenix Blood instantly without waiting for page to reload and clock to appear. I have fixed it and added a Phoenix Blood vial to your inventory to thank you for this bug report.
I will do my best to keep improving things in the game, thank you so much for appreciating my efforts!

I missed some important message, saying i developed a skill, but i went out of EP. the page auto reloaded quickly and i couldn't read the message because the whole message was gone.
I think this is a bug: While under effect of blindness, you need to highlight the texts for the Hp and distance of the enemy during a battle.
My opinion: Adding a stat table about EP consumption of each action would be excellent.
More information of artifacts dropped after a battle is needed. e.g. type of the artifact, positive / negative effect (green font colour/ red font colour) after taking new items. (e.g. old weapon: 32 attack value, new weapon: 24 attack value with bonus effect. message popped New weapon has 24 attack value (-8)(red) with bonus effect: XXX.

What removes blindness?
A list of status effects and what removes them would be nice.

So I'm finally finished! 31st overall and the 10th thief to make it. Lots of fun as always! And a big thank you to Domazo/zorvax for lending a helping hand when I was struggling the most :D

Well got to number 1 on chart....while wandering around after finding the 3 minotaurs :) Wish me luck on finding what to do next, on second floor have most of it uncovered heheh.

I dropped 1500- 2000 in the labyrinth.
Did not find a shop down there until after the minotaurs, was searching for the soul buyer.

So no more places for mages I gather? I still play it because it's fun. The changes you made recently are really helpful. I dislike the Revive skill though and I don't want to use it on anyone. Not sure if it changes anything for me but... No, I don't want to curse people that way ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah i was too late to join the top mages ;p currently waiting for energy to take the heart 5 spaces to the exit ;) heh

Maybe just a few random effects in stead of all?
Do you actually revive with full hp and ep with it?
Comment has been collapsed.
Ok, that's what I suspected, thanks.
On another note - I was thinking about making some of the skills a bit more beneficial instead of always against other players. Now Barbarians can boost each other, how about Mages able to boost each other concentration? It's hard to keep your concentration always above 50% because it's hard to keep your energy almost at cap, at least at the beginning.
Comment has been collapsed.
I gave this new ability to Barbarians to help them catch up with Thieves and Mages as those 2 classes apparently progressed faster as can be seen by the number of current winners.
Mages finished first, thus giving them another advantage to make them even stronger would not be really fair. I like the idea of adding more interaction (particularly, positive interaction), but that would mean I will have to weaken mages in some other aspects to keep things balanced.
Comment has been collapsed.
Double max health and 0 energy equals 100% concentration. :)
To get to 2x max health you also need to revive more than 1 person.
Comment has been collapsed.
But as I said earlier, this skill is quite upsetting for those revived. Changing it into something similarly beneficial but less unpleasant for others would be great (for me, I know and understand that some enjoy the pvp aspect of the dungeons).
Comment has been collapsed.
As Kuzu said, this ability in fact lets you increase your concentration and even keep it at 100% for some time.
From now on, Dead Revival applies only 2 out of 4 negative effects to those who are revived, so it shouldn't be that bad for them anymore.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, it was annoying for me personally, that's why I decided not to use it on others. I rather walk away for 3 hours and do other stuff than be revived at unknown time and have negative effects. I'm sure having only 2 bad effects is much, much better though.
Comment has been collapsed.
It is helpful to keep your concentration high when your energy is low.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not sure if it's an issue with where/how I died, but Phoenix Blood is not reviving me. I use the item, it gets reduced in my inventory, the game says I'm lying dead on the ground and the item gets refunded to my inventory. I'm assuming this isn't just an added feature to make barbarian harder.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks for the quick response. I ended up waiting that one out anyway since by the time I checked back it was down to 17 minutes, but I proceeded to finish off the quest afterward, so that was 1 more phoenix blood that I got to give away on my way to the exit.
Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit, though there were 2 times that I nearly quit playing. Early on I proceeded a little too far too fast (or just got extremely bad enemy luck, I'm not sure), coupled with not getting a new melee weapon drop until level 6, so I hit for nothing and had about 5 or 6 consecutive deaths as I tried to work my way back toward the entrance in hopes of getting easier enemies to grind. Felt pretty hopeless for a while though. This could've been fixed with smarter play on my part, but the shorter energy and revive timers should really help with this situation. As it was, 3 hours a rez was brutal. The second time was a disorient chain that cost me an entire day of game time. Basically, when things are going bad, they go REALLY bad, but at the same time, when things are going well and you have some curing items and some walls to check to find energy/health, things go really well.
It looks like most of my complaints have been addressed with the recent update, though the added move for barbs I never got to use and the attack buff one I only got use out of for the solo increase. Disorientation, as others have said, is really frustrating, especially with places like the beholder, where when you get it, you're at the mercy of luck to not repeatedly get thrown back into it over and over. I know when I got stuck there, I must have run into the beholder 15 or so times. When I finally started going the other direction, I worked my way to a minotaur so I could get murdered and drop the debuff.
My only other major complaint, and maybe this is just me playing wrong/trying to brute force too much, is that accuracy seemed like a huge struggle for any serious fight as a barb. Defending to get concentration back is unreliable from my experience, so I would often spend large portions of fights just trying to plow through with no energy or concentration because I deemed the energy pots more useful for outside of fights where I could easily meditate and help counter the high movement cost.
In the interest of not sounding negative about this because I really did enjoy my time aside from a 2 rough patches, a couple highlights:
Got 70-something gold stolen from a rogue who I promptly demoralized, scalped and looted the corpse of for 120 gold. That alone was worth the price of admission.
Scalping some unfortunate player and then stumbling into a minotaur at level 8, being completely invincible and leaving the fight with more than max HP.
Thanks for the game and sWords in general. I wasn't around for the previous adventures but I've seen it used interestingly in puzzlemania and I look forward to seeing what else comes of it in the future. Death to mages and their overpowered scrolls.

About your disorientation(beholder) event, when you are disoriented, you don't go in the direction you click.
So to stay away from the beholder, you only had to click towards it, I'm not sure if that is anywhere in the faq.

Congrats on finishing the quest and thanks for the feedback, Writhe!
Barbarians' new ability was added quite late in this quest, when Barbarians were already mostly far away from each other and everyone was playing at different time. It should show its full power in the next quest and give Barbarians a very nice boost, at least at start.
I'll keep working on improving the game in many aspects and will be happy to see you in the next adventure.

Some changes to mages' Dead Revival ability have been made.
Mages' Dead Revival ability was one of the main "sources of frustration" for many players, especially for new ones: it revived dead players applying all negative effects.
Yesterday I removed Disorientation (another "source of frustration", I know) from the list of applied effects, and now decided to change it a bit more: Dead Revival will now apply 2 out of 4 negative effects (chosen randomly): poisoning, curse, bleeding or blinding - thus it won't be too difficult to cure yourself after being revived from now on.

Why is that clearance scrolls do not remove concussion? The Ice Demon is stupidly annoying, as he just keep concussing me, and I can't do shit about it.
In fact, scrolls don't seem to work at all when concussed; I tried using stone skin, invisibility, and regeneration and it did nothing. There's nothing about that in the guide.
I'm dead now because I got chain concussed by an ice demon, and my clearance scrolls do nothing and I blew all of my health potions trying to stay alive.

Clearance also doesn't work on bleeding, even though it says it does on the FAQ

I finished the game earlier (8th Mage, if I'm not mistaken), but didn't have time to write some impressions.
I started well, then had a horrible middle game, before I managed to recover, so based on that I have a few improvement suggestions:
allow to specify how many gems you want to sell to the merchant to avoid extreme overloading with coins, if you found lots of gems while playing and then found/went to the merchant late. This would also prevent the scenario, where you have lots of gems, sell them for a lot of coins and then get robbed blind on the way to a shop, leaving you in a potentially very bad state.
have the ability to make a hidden stash in a room square somewhere to store excess items. Maybe, if another player would find them, they could steal some percentage of the items. If you decide to add this, it would be nice to make sure that anyone other that you could find the stash only once (to avoid complete robbery). I mean, once another player finds it, then no one other that you can find it any more.
if you're very overweight (at one point, I was 116/43 kg with the coins and potions) and have an acceleration effect (from the scroll), before you can move, you're required to have a higher amount of energy than the amount actually used to move. I used 37 to move, but I had to have about 80, before I could. Not sure, if this is a bug or intentional, but I don't think that's right.
A few remarks about the text mini-window (where it says what you found, how many damage you dealt, etc.):
Right now, it shows 4 lines of text, but you're wasting a lot of space with both the margins above the first line and below the last (especially this) and between the lines of text themselves. If you reduce that and maybe add a little height to the window, it would be able to show at least 1 more line of text, maybe even 2.
I find the typing effect annoying and I suspect it has to do with a few bad traits, such as sometimes typing really slowly or stopping the "typing" mid-sentence and forcing a refresh, so you don't see which items you got or whatever text was supposed to be typed (this is more evident on Firefox and similar browsers). Instead of this effect, consider just showing the string manually and then after it add a big-enough blinking caret that would pause outputting more text for a certain amount of time to allow reading (let's say between 0,5-0,7s).
It would help readability immensely, if you color some words/numbers appropriately: red for damage taken, green for damage dealt, blue for items found during checks, some other color for game-critical items like the Heart of the Dungeon this game, etc. This way you'd be able to tell a lot of what happened at a glance. Come to think of it, doing this with the main text (the one in the center of the screen) for weapons/artifacts/items found would be really nice too. Green for positive effects (adds 2 to Agility) and red for negative (decreases Disorientation resistance by 1).

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts and suggestions, Domazo!
May I ask you what browser you used to play the game? The log window (the one at top left part with the text) was not supposed to have any margins. That's what it looks like for me in Chrome, Opera and Firefox browsers which I use to test the game:

I mentioned to you earlier, I use Pale Moon as a primary browser, but when I encounter a site that works much better with a Chromium-based browser, I use Vivaldi (the installer allows you to "install" as a portable application, if you're willing to take a look), so I played the game with it. This is what the log window looks like with Vivaldi:

Sweet, thank you! :)
I'll have to wait until the next game to see the improvements.
Since you're on a bug-fixing spree, can you also look into why some map icons are squares too (you told me some HTML entities were the problem). Vercinger below also had this problem on an older version of Chrome.

I am now thoroughly stuck... Explored everything I could reach on the second level, only found 2 minotaurs, need 3 for the ratman. Where's the third? Only place left is behind the one door on the level, that I can't go through. And there's this retired orc whose purpose I can't figure out. Please help!
Comment has been collapsed.
I also explored everything I could reach on the first level. The only thing I can think of is someone mentioning a pit, and I saw a message once about someone falling into a pit, but I never found one. Maybe I had acceleration active when I passed over it? Is that how you get to the 3rd minotaur?
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, you have almost half of the map unexplored. I already finished the game, so I don't remember specifics, but one was somewhere near the bottom left part, which you still haven't been to. Also, delete the image, because it can be considered a spoiler.
Comment has been collapsed.
Chrome, un-updated because it's on Win XP. I get a different type of square for everything on Firefox. I also get a massive slowdown on FF on the first floor after (I think) Charon is discovered. Since the problems are likely to be XP-specific, I dunno if I should bring them up.
Comment has been collapsed.
Devil doesn't like you :) and you should be happy about it!
Beholders can be passed using invisibility scroll, though, since not everyone can use them, they are either protecting something not necessary to complete the quest, or there is another way into that area somewhere.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah, that was enjoyable ^^ Too bad I was without internet for two days, or I could have finished way earlier -_-'
Any chance that in the next one we can go back into the dungeon after finishing it, but with the PvP elements blocked off? (I really enjoy(ed) just roaming the dungeon to fill in the whole map near the end, plenty of items left over; didn't want to chance wasting much time once I got the Heart though.)
Thanks for the the entertainment these last few days!

Hey Elevander! Glad to know you had lots of fun in the game! :)
It might be possible to return to the cleared dungeon in the future.
I will post all the news on the website and in the steam group (oh, and in facebook occasionally), so check those from time to time :)

All of us like playing games, and all of us like winning games. So, how about playing a game and winning games while playing?
Introduction
Game of sWords is a text RPG Adventure where you can explore dungeons, upgrade your hero, find useful items, weapons and artifacts, avoid deadly traps, fight dangerous monsters and interact with other players while searching for treasures (private SteamGifts giveaways links) on your way and trying to complete a quest to get access to a huge amount of private giveaways! Each quest has a limited number of winners split between 3 available classes - Barbarian, Wizard and Thief, so the chances in each giveaway will always be great.
All giveaways have no restrictions, so anyone who finds them can join them!
A lot of giveaways have been contributed by the community members, and I would like to say a big Thank You to everyone who made a contribution! :)
Here is the topic of the previous Game of sWords.
Here is the topic of the second Game of sWords.
And here is the topic of the first one, which started back in November last year.
Important notes about the Game
You hero has Energy Points and Health Points.
Most of the actions require Energy Points. Energy can be replenished using items which you can find everywhere, thus it is important to check everything around you!
Energy also replenishes over time and that time can be reduced with special artifacts that can be found during the adventure.
Note, that the Energy won't be replenishing during the battles (you can only restore it with potions)!
If you lose all your Health Points, you will also lose all the Energy you had plus you will have to wait for a few hours to be resurrected. Energy can not be replenished while you are dead!
Note: If you have problems navigating through the map, you can switch to Simplified Navigation at the bottom right corner.
I highly recommend to visit sWords Library that has a lot of other useful information that will help you in the adventure
What's new in Game of sWords?
It's been more than half a year since the previous Game, and, obviously, it has a lot of changes and improvements! Adventures this time will get even bigger, with more variety in everything: items, monsters, traps, weapons, artifacts, interaction, you name it!
The Game now has sounds which can be activated by clicking a Note symbol at the bottom right corner and a Chat window which can be used to communicate with other adventurers and see what is happening around you!
You can also trade with other adventurers through the Chat using following command: /trade amount item(s) you have for amount item(s) you want
E.g.
/trade 5 small healing potions for 3 small energy potions
/trade 5 acceleration scrolls for 100 coins
The Game also has a new design a a new engine which makes all kinds of interactions happen in real time.
Note: The Game engine is not properly supported by Internet Explorer (you will encounter all kinds of nasty bugs there) and it is recommended to use one of the following browsers: Chrome (perfect), Opera (perfect) or Firefox (great, but the game works a tiny bit slower and sounds sometimes mess up a little).
Current Winners limits: Barbarians:10, Mages:10, Thieves:10.
Winners get access to all giveaways available in the Game! (50+)
Everyone who finishes the Game after the limit is reached (while it is still runnning) gets 1 random treasure as a consolation prize!
All giveaways end in about a week! The Game will last for a week.
Time to start the Adventure!
EVERYONE is invited to play the Game and search for treasures in the adventure! :)
The only requirement is that your Steam account should be more than 90 days old.
