I had a short conversation with a few people about the whole 'PC Master race' and such. I dont really get why people divide up consoles gamers and PC gamers'. Yes okay sometimes PC can have better graphics and run faster but some of the best games ever made where for console only (Legend Of Zelda and such). I just don't really understand why it has divided up. Both PC and Consoles both do what the gamer wants, to play games on them, so why divide us up? I myself have a few consoles, including a Gamecube, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, Wii & a GBA. I also play on my PC sometimes. What do you guys think of this? Please do share your thoughts :D

I never chose any side tbh. I prefer PC because I do tons of other things than play games, I want to play with a mouse and keyboard, and because of the better graphics. I also own a PS4 and PS3 for exclusives, but haven't played anything with them yet. Each to their own, really :)

Except we have exclusives now instead of blast processing. :) (Which has got to be the stupidest technical-sounding marketing stunt in known history.)

True enough. Porting was a serious business then, but many exclusives still.
It's funny though, how Sega is now just a company of many that makes games for Nintendo. Their hardware couldn't blast process its way through the 21st century. :) (Even if the Dreamcast is one of the most beloved and highest-rated system of all time.)

Yeah, it's pretty ironic to see Sonic in Smash Bros ;) I think that Sega lost the 'fight' with the Saturn (and before that with the SegaCD/MegaCD and 32X...), but was too stubborn to admit defeat :)

I never even heard that the Mega Drive had extensions/accessories. Could be because of the region, but it was strange to learn about them in that AVGN video.

I (or better my brother and I) had both extensions. There were a few good games that made use of the extensions (Lunar for example), but overall it was a huge waste of money.

The thing that killed the console market for SEGA is the rate at which they released new consoles, abandoning the previous ones. People who bought the 32X / SegaCD / Saturn felt burned about how few games got released before SEGA moved on to the next console. They somewhat redeemed themselves with the Dreamcast but it was too late for them and a large part of their fan base had already moved on to something else.

I think in Sega, there is a master plan of a new Sega console given from one CEO to another and that only time is the barrier for Sega. Like the Death Star plan.

Ah, the ancient hate :) The were always 'system' wars in gaming as long as I can remember. There were always (made up) arguments to support one side or the other, but in the end if you want to play games it doesn't really matter. Some games are 'better' on certain systems, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy them on another system just as much.

P.S. I really enjoy how a ironic comment by Yahtzee became a thing on the internet ;)

Honestly I don't understand why PC people constantly call themselves a master race, its kiiiiind of annoying but whatever. I was raised off of Gamecube and PS1 and Dreamcast so I was raised to love all kinds of consoles. Basically I am not gamist (A racist gamer against certain consoles/PC (Trademarked))

I agree with you console gamers and pc gamers are the same in a way both enjoy games . The key factor is how you wanna game , for me pc gaming gives more option i mean if we take skyrim as an example while playing the basic game is the same experience modding it can make your experience so much better then again take ff13 you cant really separate pc and console there except the 60 fps. Console gamers enjoy the fact that they dont give themselves headaches with hardware buy a console every 7 years then buy games pc gamers have to deal with a lot more **** but they have greater sales for games. Console gamers have every realease optimised for maybe best performance pc gamers tho its another story but also when something is really broken for both console and pc modders that are fans of the game always save the day.

I could go on and on but in the end of the day its all about convenience for me , i find it at a pc i would only buy a console just for an exclusive game that i really really wanna play other than that if i can play it on pc i play it on pc and if a fellow gamer out there finds convenience in console i can respect his choise. I believe its either kids or really immature people who bother enter this kind of war. And why cause there cant be a winner as far as i know noone ever changed side just cause he heard "omg you are dumb for playing witcher on your ps4 its much better on pc"

Been gaming for 20+ years in general, which also is how many years I play on consoles (have 25 consoles).
Started PC gaming 10 years ago.

PC > consoles, and not just from a graphics point of view.
That doesn't mean I don't buy consoles, the only reason I buy them is for their exclusives.

ps : console gamers are more obsessed with game graphics than PC gamers, that's what I've learned all these years

The way I see consoles and PCs are whatever consoles can perform can also be performed on PCs, but what PCs can do may not happen on consoles. Moreover, the best point I give to PCs, in my opinion, is the variety or the given influence someone has when using a PC. Using mods and exchanging dated hardware for newer ones are only two advantages I feel what gives me a sense of freedom I have never felt when I only had just an Xbox 360.

PC is objectively superior platform and yet console games cost like 150% of the PC version? No thanks. PC Master Race.

Old consoles like NES were amazing, but today there's no reason to own a current gen console over PC. Exclusives exist only to make you buy a console, not because they wouldn't run on PC.

"but some of the best games ever made where for console only"

Egg-frogging-xactly!
I don't know about others but that's my problem with consoles, their exclusivity. PCs are superior in every way, and always have been and yet they miss out on some of the best games needlessly (I don't care how much you tell me otherwise many of those games could have easily been on PC with good ports, half of them get devved on a damn PC for pete's sake).

And that is why I'll harp on about how much better a PC is forever cuz I'm friggin bitter.

That and I hate check-point autosaves, an inferior system taken over from inferior consoles. Consoles have HDDs now, they need to stop this save at the end of disc 1 bulldust and allow me to save anywhere and any time. Not force their archaic limitations onto my superior system.
I don't want to have to repeat 20 minutes of gameplay just because 20 years ago nobody thought it might be a good idea to give a console more than 6MB of memory.

there are a lot of petty people in this world, back in the day i got an xbox because i wanted to play halo, i got a playstation because i wanted to play god of war, i had a pc because it was the new tech to have 1995ish, which lead to warcraft, starcraft, diablo, unreal tournament, etc etc and the cycle continues

if i had to personally pick one as my favorite it would be pc because thats where the majority of my gaming friends are (from all over the world) and im able to play with them more often if not every time i login a game. most fun with games solo would be nintendo consoles

anyone that thinks theirs is better than others has issues with self worth, thats narcissistic behavior

Here are the reasons why I prefer PC over consoles....

I've had virtually the same PC parts for the last 5 or so years. They were not top of the line. I can play pretty much any game today. I can also play games from 20 years ago or more.

When I upgrade my video card and hard drive which is very easy to do, I will be able to play any game for the next 5 or more years without any issues. I will also still be able to play the games from 20 years ago or more if I want.

When playing FPS games, I have a mouse which gives me far superior aim then a game pad does even with the game pads autoaim ability. This was proven when Microsoft decided to try some tests of the best xbox players vs ok PC players in the same game against each other. The PC players slaughtered the xbox players, it wasn't even close. After that they stopped working on the ability to allow console players to play against and pretty much buried that they even did the test

I can play on a TV just as easily as I can play on a computer monitor so thats not an advantage for the consoles.
The visual quality of my games are far better on a PC (1080p at 60fps if the game itself allows it), so thats not an advantage for the consoles.
1 PC can play games from many platforms. And now that consoles run actual PC hardware, with PC software, PCs will be able to more easily run current gen and future gen console games. No more need for emulators.

Some of my favorite games in the past have been mods for other games, something not easily done on consoles.

Console exclusives mean nothing to me, but they do mean lost sales to the game makers who sell exclusively on consoles. There have been many games I have wanted, but ignored because they were console only.

I can do far more with my computer, then any console owner can do with their console and I can do most of it all at the same time.

And one of the biggest reasons why I am a PC gamer, huge discounts on PC games. When the last time you seen 50% off or more on a console game within the first year? When was the last time you were able to buy a whole bunch of console games for 90%+ off, some of them released for the first time that year, heck some of them released that month?

"This poll is bound to be so skewed due to the polling location."
I personally play PC games and handheld games. I game on PC most of the time and then sometimes on DS or mobile. I don't own any other consoles because they're expensive. I simply can't afford $500+ console with $50+ games. There are plenty of great games on the computer anyway.

My only gripe is that games that are multi platform(PC and consoles) always sacrifice gameplay mechanics and complexity just to be able to run on consoles and the limited button controller. And it usually ends up obnoxious to play them,ex. UI and controls for Skyrim,Fallout 3,Witcher 2. I couldn't give a damn about the graphics like many folks say on the PC master race camp.Today we rarely get a game designed for K&M,excluding the strategy games and that makes me mad.

I'm a PC and a console gamer. Best of both worlds. ;)

I like PC for performance (as in graphics, framerate, etc.) as well as mods and customizability.

However I generally find console games run more reliably with fewer glitches and crashes (apart from maybe Bethesda games). Also, I like the Nintendo 3DS for portability.

It doesn't matter for me, I just chose PC because game are cheaper and I can play almost all of them on my work laptop wich I bought a few years ago.
What's bad about pc gaming is the terrible ports we get sometimes and we miss a lot of console exclusives, but it's worth form.
Also, we get a lot of free games don't we.

Computers were invented to perform operations which were otherwise deemed prohibitively complex. (e.g. Solving complex algorithms multiple times per second.) Video games hit the scene when the microchip (coupled with electronics) allowed them to function within a "cabinet." Refinements within electronics and microchips allowed for the advent of the microcomputer and increased complexity in videogame cabinets. With the popularity of videogames (and the money that goes with that), programmers began writing games directly for computer OS's.

As the computer gaming market began to take off, it was hampered by the high cost of computers. Meanwhile, videogame manufacturers like ATARI sought to broaden their market. When technology allowed, they began pushing consoles, smaller devices designed to run simplified versions of popular videogames. While not everyone could afford a computer, the price of consoles was low enough for the market to "take off." It then became a race between computer game development and console game development.

As the years went by, PC's became available at reduced cost while consoles became more complex and expensive. This reduced the gap between PC cost and console cost. Combined with the extra power and functionality of the PC, consoles were losing ground. To combat this, consoles began pushing exclusive content. It wasn't that PC's couldn't run the games available for consoles, rather console manufacturers simply refused to allow ports of their games to the PC. There was also a decision made to avoid having a mouse and keyboard added to standard console equipment, requiring console games to buy a particular controller, instead..

Greed and jealousy.

Since then, consoles makers have continued to fight against the dominance of the home computer, both outwardly and behind-the-scenes. I have nothing against console technology, nor against console gaming, but I despise the greed, deception, corruption, manipulation, and deceitful practices of console-makers. I resist their attempts to force me into buying two pieces of equipment when one should be enough, and I do my best to avoid giving them my money inasmuch as that is possible.

it mostly comes from pc gamers having powerful machines that could be doing so much more with games, but console gaming holds us back by dumbing down the visuals.. i think thats where a lot of animosity comes from. We could be a lot further on in terms of gaming visuals if lower-end console technology wasn't lagging behind.

Also, I'm convinced that consoles have caused us as a species to diminish.. I'm positive the human eye could originally see more than 30fps but as ALL console gamers know, since the advent of gaming consoles, the human eye can apparently only see 30fps now... coincidence? I think not...
