Hello everyone!
As the title says, I need a game recommendation.
What I'm searching for: FPS + Role-Playing (like Fallout 3-4 (+NV), The Outer Worlds...something like Skyrim will also do, so FPS+RPG should have a world to explore and a good amount of lore), or FPS + Horror (like F.E.A.R, or Resident Evil 7 & 8), or just a FPS with a good story and atmosphere (like Bioshock).
The game should neither be very old, nor very new (it may be very new but should not have high system requirements). I have a rather old PC (my graphics card is 1660 super), so games with very high specs are out of the question, but I don't want to play something old, neither (besides, I'm pretty sure I played every old (not very old) game within the parameters).
Please, help. I played every popular title that meets my requirements and can't seem to find anything interesting anymore.
P.S. Sorry, I don't have anything to giveaway.

Upd. My preferred game settings are post-apocalyptic, futuristic (sci-fi) and fantasy. Not the realistic ones like WW I-II or modern war conflicts. Also no comics.
Upd2. No fast-paced shooter, I'm too sluggish for these xD

Borderlands 2? It's FPS + RPG.

RAGE maybe? It's not super huge or impressive, but it has some exploration and stuff. Mad Max-ish setting.

Metro 2033 is FPS + Horror + Story.

Shadow Warrior 2 has a bunch of RPG mechanics like loot, procedurally-generated levels (not too many variants... ^_^' ) and Diablo-like difficulty scaling where on higher difficulties enemies get elemental resistances/immunities and stuff. (Also it has one of the most kick-ass main menu themes ever.)

The Darkness II - in this game you can use your evil shadow tentacles to pull an enemy's spine out of his arse. Just saying.

Borderlands is not my cup of tea, I tried it in the past.
Rage...I've been thinking to play it for a long time but something's always stopped me from doing so. I think I read someone that this game has a lot of bugs.
Metro 2033 I played (though didn't finish...but I won't play it again because it reminds of a person I'd rather forget).
I tried to play Shadow Warrior (the first one, I think) and it's too fast-paced and chaotic for my taste, I forgot to mention this in the description - no fast-paced shooters like DOOM because my reflexes suck.
The Darkness II is again, not my cup of tea. Because of the comic aesthetics (like Borderlands).
Thanks for the answer.

For a good story, the Metro series. You have Metro 2033 in your library, so you can try it out and see if you like it.

There is also the System Shock remake: https://store.steampowered.com/app/482400/System_Shock/

The Metro series is a no because of personal reasons (I answered to Zlia).
I'm considering to try out System Shock remake (since I never played the original game, only System Shock 2), though I'd have to search for a key somewhere since it's not available in my region's Steam.
Thanks for the answer.

Chernobylite Complete Edition Post apacolytpic game, or in the very least your playing in post meltdown Chernobyl. It's a FPS game where you go out and do missions where you are then in small open world sections, and afterwards you return to your base, so it isn't a full open world game. Very inspired by STALKER from what I can see.

STALKER franchise Post apocalyptic game, or in the very least your playing in post meltdown Chernobyl. Take fallout but make it a lot more brutal and serious in tone, then you basically have STALKER, the first 3 games are quite old today, but there's a new one coming in a few months.

Homefront®: The Revolution This is more a FarCry clone than anything else, but regardless, it's an FPS open world game.

Dying Light Franchise More just zombie killing games, but they both are first person oriented, have open worlds, and have guns in them. The movement is very parkour focused, so a lot of climbing, vaulting, and things like that.

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 I REALLY enjoyed this game as a generic FPS game, the open world was a lot of fun to traverse, and plan routes to kill everyone in the bases, the only down side is that the enemies respawn quite fast (I think everytime you sleep in game or something). But it's a really nice generic modern shooter.

RAGE franchise The first game isn't as open world as person would like it to be, a bit more segmented. The second game is more of a full open world. But regardless they are both quite fun FPS RPG Open world games. I would highly recommend them, just expect a more generic feel compared to Fallout.
Metro franchise One of the best best post apocalyptic franchises out there, the game focuses a LOT on immersion, the first 2 games (2033, and Last Light) are quite linear, but the third game (Exodus) is a full on open world. But you follow the same character throughout, so would recommend playing the first 2 before hand. The gameplay is just french kiss next level.

Borderlands franchise A FPS RPG with more character you won't find out there. The games are all really damn good, if you haven't played the franchise before then I recommend starting with the second game, the first one is too old by todays standards (even the remaster). The game is semi open world, you move onto new open world chunks throughout the game, but it's all segmented, so yeh...

FarCry NewDawn Post apocalyptic Far Cry game, but a lot more RPG focussed than any of the other Far Cry games. Would definitely recommend this :).

Atomic Heart I haven't played this yet, but it looks like a really nice Bioshock clone.

Some other recommendations would be Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield, but they are far to damn demaning.

Starfield isn't nearly as bad as people say. I played the crap out of the game, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The only shitty parts is the constant loading screens, and the randomization isn't random enough, like they hand crafted locations that will randomly generate, instead of making it segmented, meaning you will see building A and building B over and over again. There is quite a large pool, but it doesn't take long to start repeating locations.

For example, Science Lab A on this very green planet, and then Science Lab A again, 20 planet jumps later, but this time on a snow planet, but it has the exact same layout, exact same enemies, exact same interior (same items, same locations, even the same dead bodies at set locations).

Chernobylite, STALKER and Metro are not what I'm inclined to play because of the setting - post-Soviet apocalypse. I don't like it for some reason.
Dying Light is too fast for me with all the parkour going on, and I wouldn't consider zombies a horror.
Sniper is modern, not what I'm looking for.
Borderland is comic, though I did read and hear a lot of good about the franchise and even played the 2nd one myself...but somehow I couldn't quite enjoy it.
FarCry New Dawn and Atomic Heart (and maybe RAGE) are the ones I'll consider from your answer, thank you!

You've probably played these, even though you didn't mention them:

  • Half Life 2
  • Black Mesa (story of Half-Life 1 remade to look more modern).

They're not open-world like Fallout 4, but more linear with interesting lore and mechanics like Bioshock.

Half-Life 2 also has a lot of interesting free stand-alone mods on Steam like Entropy Zero 2 or Swelter, but YMMV regarding their quality (I think most of them are awesome).

Go for it then! Here are the boxes it checks:

  1. Good story and atmosphere
  2. World to explore and a lot of lore
  3. Post-apocalyptic
  4. A good dose of both sci-fi and fantasy
  5. Not overly fast; my reflexes aren't too good and I managed. :D

Almost right up my alley your taste is! I have a few cool ones in stock for you. Niche, but still amazing games I love with a passion.

Fallen Aces! Although you did say you didn't really like comic style games but I feel like this could make you change your mind! It's kind of like Forgive Me Father but in like a '90s crime noir and it is really open-ended and absurdly hilarious. It's an Early Access story-led first person shooter and almost everything is a weapon. From trash bins to gumballs to baseball bats, even guns. The game also offers stealth to a partial degree but not as much as someone who really likes stealth could hope for. Stealth is definitely an option but in most cases it really doesn't pay off. I'd say it's a Jack-of-all-trades type of game that doesn't specialize in a certain playstyle but it does decent in all of its aspects respectively. Compelling little gruesome shoot 'em and beat 'em up FPS game. Perfectly within your budget and specs!

What about some Trepang2? If you've played the F.E.A.R games it plays kind of like that, just a lot more modern. The game has very high-end graphics but I think it has lower end graphics options as well. It might seem like a "fast-paced" FPS and that's because it is, but the focus (effectively time-slowing) mechanic makes the game a lot more strategic and enhances the game experience in my opinion. Majority of the missions in this game can also be partially done in stealth which is very neat. The game is pretty spooky, but not terrifying per se. There are a lot of scary moments and effectively "jumpscares" when an enemy jumps at you unexpectedly. Trepang2 might be just a little too high-end but your GPU should be powerful enough to run the game on somewhat high graphics without bumping everything to extreme (the game has like some custom settings where you can make gore absurdly over the top and gruesome which greatly reduces performance and all that yadda but you should be able to have fun without all that). Absolutely amazing game with even more amazing gore, very funny to hear the enemies talking to each other and then burst into agony as you shoot them in their knees.

This is a very bold recommendation but... Roboquest. It is an FPS rogueLITE and it has a very apparent comic book style to it which is probably not the greatest recommendation based on your preferences but despite me absolutely hating the Borderlands style, I absolutely adore this one. You can just pick up this game while waiting for a friend, do a short 30 minute run and resume whatever you were doing. It's a very nice and satisfying shooter where you can build completely on fire rate or critical damage. The possibilities are endless. There are both easy and hard difficulty modes so if you want to go slow and really hit those weak spots without getting punished too much then the possibility is always there and if you want a little bit of a challenge, nothing is stopping you from bumping up the difficulty a little bit. It's a dopamine simulator that satisfies me with big colorful numbers and sounds.

It might've been a stretch to recommend Fallen Aces and Roboquest but hey, maybe they might just be interesting. You never know until you explore and find out!

Funny enough, but I had both Fallen Aces and Roboquest on my wishlist for some time now (then again, my wishlist is huge, I just add there anything that looks slightly interesting).
But Trepang2 is what I'm really interested now! Thank you! Though it's unavailable in my region, so I'd have to look for a key or smth.

Comment has been collapsed.

Trepang2 was in a bundle recently and the key has no region locks and it is considerably cheaper than it would usually be on sale.

I am very glad my recommendations were of satisfaction and I could introduce you to a modern F.E.A.R (successor?). I was scared you wouldn't like Roboquest since it is similar to Borderlands and really just a hit or miss... You either hate both, love both, or despise one.

I definitely recommend Fallen Aces the most, even though it is in Early Access and only has 1 story chapter (not sure how many missions it had, 3 or something?) available at the moment but for its price and quality experience, I can't recommend it enough. Similarly to Fallen Aces, you can also see if you would be interested in the lovecraftian boomer shooter FPS game Forgive Me Father which has the same comic book style as Fallen Aces but with a lot more DOOMesque gameplay. The weapons and animations are satisfying and the levels feel very fun to just run and gun, although lacks any sort of real depth, but it does have quite an interesting storyline.

I have Prey, Alien Isolation, SOMA, DIshonored (both) and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and played all of them but somehow didn't finish any of them except for the first Dishonored. I think I should, especially Alien Isolation (my best friend really wants me to play this some more) and Deus Ex (Human Revolution is one of my favorite games, after all).
I will also consider E.Y.E and Wolfenstein II for the future.

You're most welcome! I personally love the Deus Ex games, and Mankind Divided felt slightly different from Human Revolution at fiirst, but I grew to like it more. Prague is a better level than anything you had in HR, and the augmentations/whole movement system feels better to use this time around. Also the DLC is better and doesn't break the pace of the game like Rifleman Bank Station did in HR Directors Cut. Big big fan.

I have Alien Isolation (free at EGS) and although I haven't played it yet, many of the videogame designers I follow on Youtube have a lot of praise for the game. Sounds like a good deal for you!

State of Decay 2 was pretty awesome.
Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda were pretty good too.
Have you tried the Dead Island games? They are fairly decent.
Starfield was good if you find it on sale.
Have you checked out Survivalist: Invisible Strain?
If you ever decide to try turn based I have a lot of recommendations there.
X-Com, Wasteland, Pathfinder, Expeditions, Divinity to name a few.
Of late I have actually been playing an oldschool style RPG called Eiyuden Chronicle and I love it.

State of Decay is a survival game, I think. I don't like these. I mean, I don't like crafting, building settlements, etc.
DA and Mass Effect are among my favorite franchises, though not DAI and MEA but rather DA: Origins and ME 1-3. But they don't fit what I'm looking for.
No, I haven't played Dead Island. I might some day, though I think it's a FPSlasher, not exactly what I'm looking for, and I'm not a fan of zombies.
Starfield...maybe. When it gets a lot of mods on Nexusmods because, frankly, I don't think that Bethesda's games are quite as enjoyable without mods as with them.
Survivalist - again, a survival game.
I like turn-based RPGs, such as Wasteland 2-3 (finished both, not the first one, though :D), Pathfinder (Kingmaker was okay, and I absolutely loved Wrath of the Righteous). I have very high expectations for Expeditions: Rome (because I'm a fan on Ancient Rome history) but was disappointed). Divinity (Original Sin ones)...somehow I couldn't get into them. Baldur's Gate 3 - the same (because it's a lot like Divinity: OS, coming from the same developer), though I am a huge fan of the old Baldur's Gate 1-2 + Throne of Bhaal.
Turns out I have Eiyuden Chronicle on wishlist, but it's a JRPG, I think, and I'm not a fan of JRPGs.
Thanks for the answer.

If you don't mind SyntyStore assets, ADACA might be something you would interested in. It has a linear Half-Life style story mode, and a freeroam mode similar to Fallout 3+4+NV. The setting is a bit of a post-apocalyptic/collapse Scifi alien world with anomalies, monsters, and hostile soldiers, and you have a arm with HL2's gravity gun.

System requirements shouldn't be too high, and there is a demo if you are skeptical.

FPS+Rpg that arent fallouts or outer worlds... There aint that many.

Most rpg like i know of is EYE divine cybermancy, the Stalker series and DEUS EX- the entire franchise can do so you can start from the least old for you. And of course the already mentioned action rpg Borderlands and Rage
edit: On the same vein of Bioshock theres also Prey

Fantasy i assume you mean First Person not necessarily shooter right? First person rpgs are that arent old are rare beyond the elder scroll series and dungeon crawlers wich id guess arent what youre looking for; Theres a batch of elders scroll likes coming up tough(yet to release) and some recent ones:

  • Dread Delusion Very very weird, looks very old but its an recent indie retro. I havent played it yet but ive seen only praises- its like an Morrowind/Elder Scrolls with simpler mechanics, so more like a first person zelda-ish but in a dark weird world with eldritch gods
  • Testament: High Human - its seems to be an rpg lite, more linear, more of a metroidvania or say half life from what i saw, but with plenty of rpg elements
  • Lichdom Battlemage another linear game but this is more FPS fantasy (wizards, spells go pew pew), more like an a-rpg in linear levels. Crazy spells configurations

On that same vein- not quite full rpgs- but a bit older, i think those 2 are worth it:

  • Dark Messiah i cant recommend it enougth. Also a linear game with rpg elements, think half-life if it were pseudo rpg. If you havent played its a must, ridiculous fun- the graphics arent that dated, looks crips in modern hardware (4k etc), many people still consider it the most fun melee first person fantasy game ever made
  • Thief series: I love the entire series so im biased, not quite rpg either and very much stealth centric but its like playing an rpg as a rogue. I love the first 2 but are very old and dated, that said theres the recent more modern Thief(2014) - and id also recommend Thief Deadly Shadows, the third entry that isnt as dated as the first two. Btw dont mind the screenshots on deadly shadows, it have an optional third person view but the entire game can be played in first person like god intended (the best and most exciting way to play Thief, this series is pure gold)

If youre willing to put up with more dated graphics for a unique cult classic theres Arx Fatallis.
For a more modern heftier requirements Elders Scrolls like true rpg theres Kingdom Come Deliverance

If youd take rogue-lites there Ziggurat 1 and 2, and Gunfire Reborn as fantasy FPS
If your machine can handle it Vermintide 1 or 2 are coop centric missions with rpg classes- both can be played solo but theyre intended more as multiplayer left 4 dead.

On other genres theres the Dishonored games, again rpg elements, again more of a half-life+stealth more Bioshock like

I think I'll play E.Y.E in the future.
I played Prey, I liked it but somehow got bored and didn't finish it. I guess I should try and finish it.
Thanks, added Dread Delusion to my wishlist, though it's a bit too weird for me but maybe I'll give it a try.
Testamen: High Human looks alright but the reviews aren't quite good. Did you play it yourself?
I have Lichdom Battlemage, even played it a long time ago but didn't like it.
I finished Dark Messiah like 3 times in the past, great game! I also finished the old ThieVES (but not the 2014 one...maybe I will someday).
I don't mind dated graphics IF I played (and liked) the game when it was released. Like, for example, Gothic 1-2 or Fallout 1-2: I can enjoy them even now. But if I didn't play a game in the past, the very dated graphics is a no. Unfortunately, I didn't play Arx Fatallis.
I have Kingdom Come and even tried to play it but I felt like it needs extensive modding before I could actually enjoy it. Especially the lockpicking mini-game...it's infuriating, rage-inducing piece of crap.
I don't like rogue-lites.
My pc can handle Vermintide 1 and 2, I even have them and played them but I'm looking for a single-player story-driven game which they are not.
I finished Dishonored 1 but I am yet to play Dishonored 2. Can't say that I enjoyed the first game very much (it was okay, but nothing more for me), but maybe I should try the 2nd one.
Thanks for the answer.

Terminator: Resistance
Based on the description, this is exactly what you need. This is a post-apocalyptic futuristic first-person shooter, gameplay reminiscent of Fallout 3 and the Metro series. The game is story-oriented, combining both linear staged segments and levels in relatively spacious locations that can be explored. Adequate system requirements. Very atmospheric. If you love the first and second films, then this is a must-play for you, but even apart from them, this is a very strong game.
