Hmmmmmm???
I'm nearing 3000 games. All PC games but not all of them on Steam. I have plenty of them on sites like GOG, Epic, etc. Odds are that I will not live long enough to play and finish all of them, assuming my interest in playing games remains the same over the years. Am I worry? Nah. A couple of reasons for that.
I'm a collector. I've been one my whole life. Eventually, I'll stop and other things will catch my attention. I spent a lot of money on many things over the years, but also made a lot of money. For instance, I started playing MTG when it was a brand new thing. When I stopped playing I sold my collection for thousands of dollars. I used to have a huge Star Wars collection, same thing. I had a lot of fun trading, buying, selling, meeting people, etc. I might not have the objects, but I still have all the good memories and a few good friends I made.
Now, I'm not saying my PC games collections will get me money (not currently, but who knows? Maybe some years from now things can change), but they will give me entertainment and I have a huge menu to choose from according to my humor at any given moment. But here's the thing, even when seems very unlikely that I will manage to play all my games, my boy is more than willing to take on the challenge. He loves videogames and he has his whole life ahead of him to try.
Nothing is wasted when you get a benefit from it. With all the crap happening all the time in the world and in our lives, fun is priceless.

I like to lie myself I will play them all one day, cause not even year ago I realized bundles exists and my brain went in like "Hell, thats cheap, I must buy that" and number of my backlog started growing, meantime free time is lowering. But I believe I am still on number of games that is realistic to play all someday.

Honestly I just look at the cost vs potential fun time (allowing for 90% + being crap games). If I went to a movie (Remember doing that?) it would cost tickets, popcorn, pop, parking, etc. for 2 hours. I'll do a game for under a buck if it seems possibly fun. Good return on my investment.
The problem I have, is I do bundles and the next thing I know I've racked up 30 shite games and 3 possible ones. However there is always a chance that I'll hit that 10 cent gem that I'll be playing a year from now. Or win the lotto ... same odds.

Early on, I'd get some games on GOG and Steam that I wasn't likely to play just to have them - games I'd already played, like Master of Magic, or games I've just heard great things about like X-com. When Humble Bundles first launched, I'd get the $1 bundles if the games looked remotely interesting.
Now, I don't buy or enter giveaways for games I don't actually want to play. And as my backlog has piled up (along with real life expenses), I've become a lot more judicious about both. It would have to be a really good sale, like $5 for a game I'm really interested in, for me to buy it.

I try to buy games I'm really interested to play soon or later. Even a thought of having a huge library of hundreds of unplayed games makes me feel bad...

Affordable hobby + mental problem :P
I discovered that is my case so now I only buy Humble Bundle Monthly as that is most of the times 12 games for 12$ and a Fanatical bundle from time to time if it is really really good and I keep away from other sites. That makes me spend less money and also get games for cheap :)
And my back log is something I think I will play for the rest of my life but strangely I'm ok with that as I imagine my retirement will be me playing games :)

If I buy the game directly on steam, or individually from another store, I will always have an intention to play it. Of course that doesn't always work out and the other day I did a little audit to find that there are a couple of games I bought 7 years ago that I've yet to start.
When bundles first started coming out, I went crazy adding all kinds of games I would never play to my library, but as the 'well' dried up and the quality dropped, I became a lot more selective, generally only buying the monthlies and the occassional fanatical bundle if it has a wishlisted game. I've also removed a whole lot of the real junk from my library. I'll still get games in bundles I'm probably not going to play, and I used to feel guilty about that, but nowadays, I figure, it doesn't hurt anyone and maybe one day they are the kind of games my kids might enjoy or something.

I don't do that often, or rather o it quite rarely, but whenever it happens, it's a mix of different circumstances.
Sometimes it to support the dev. At time it might be due to awesome discount along with a vague feeling that I might want to play that game. At times I buy the game because I want to play the game, but I know too well I'll actually never play it (because either it's too low in my to-play list, or it's a very long game that I might not be able to commit to due to limited time). There have been instances when I wanted a game but I wait until it gets discounted, but by the time it's on sale I am no longer interested, but I might still get it.
Even though my library is small, I have already decided to not buy another game until I am ready to start it that very day. I think this saves me way more than buying multiple games in sale that I never end up playing.

Bump and thank you! Sometimes I just hope to play some of them in retirement. XD

I traded and a redeemed a lot of games I know won’t play
Sometimes I would buy a bundle cause I like the games there but I know I’m probably never gonna play it

When i bought them, i always thought sincerely i'd be playing them really soon. Unfortunately time is not extensible.
So i try to refrain from buying a sequel (new Yakuza) to a game i haven't finished yet (Yakuza 0), or a game in the same style (Project wingman) as a game i haven't finished yet (Ace combat).

I don't even know the word backlog. I'm just a collector. I know the feel.

so i own atm 481 games, where i got around 200 games for free ... 4 of which i got free on sites and around 15 i got from friends i actually played, 51 games from giveaways here ... started around 23 ... but have finished only 7 games ... around 14%, so i bought around 230 games on steam, only. around 85% come from bundles of which i played around around 20% ... so i played around 40 bundle games and bought atleast 35 games ... all games i bought without bundles i had atleast played once ...
so my summary
payed games i own 481
games i never played 321
games i started 160
games i actually played 94
games i have technical issues 45
games i finished 40
games i gave up 33
edit: forgot to write it, my guess is that i mostly bought bundles for games i actually want to play or the name and/or gameplay had something nostalgic to me. the other thing i realised about my game choice is, that i hate multiplayer only games and love coop games, i only play singleplayer games when they are racing games, simulations, open world sandbox games, point and click games or more relaxing games.

I crossed the "600 games" line recently and to think, 600 games is enough to play for a decade or, even, for a lifetime. Pretty sure that I won't ever launch like 30% of my library. And still, I spent my money on em, why? I can't even answer. I just made a purchase because I had money.
You know this feeling, when you see a new bundle full of unknown titles, and your mind goes "daym I need this". A lot of you have thousands of games and I bet you're not done yet. So what's this, a hobby or a mental problem? Would love to read your opinions and solutions.
Also, level 7 rush, games im not interested in, but YOU may be thrilled to get. Good luck!
