Back then when I still had a few gifts on display on my profile somebody added me to ask if I would would "find it in my heart" to gift him Terraria.
I told him Terraria get's heavily discounted pretty much every sale and he can get it for about 2$. But at least he was polite as well.
Also somebody else added me and after a week without prior interaction sent me a trade offer for a few free Terraria cards with the note "For my collection please".

A schoolkid from Donetsk asked me recently (very politely) about whether I could gift him Orange Box, he said his life is very hard for his city is under some shady Putin's bandit regime (he didn't say that exactly but I know) and they don't have any money there.. I promised him to, but a bit later for the New Year :)

Erm, I personally have a friend from Donetsk (he is doing english-to-russian webcomics translations and fansub). It's not like they don't have money there, it's more about harder job opportunities to get them. Especially when you are expecting bombs to land nearby.

I experienced my first beggar recently as well. They asked if I spoke Spanish and I replied with just a little. He then proceeded to request cards from me and at first I thought he was looking for a trade (it's been a while since I had to use Spanish and I incorrectly translated 'regalar' as 'to trade/exchange' since I haven't dealt with any beggars before so I assumed he was looking to trade). After I told him that I don't give away cards for free, he persisted and just changed which cards he was requesting. Furthermore, to a set that I had completed, so not only was he looking for handouts but was furthermore wanted to dismantle my complete set. My conclusion ->

I have had literally (blocked them and reported many too Steam) many hundreds of Steam beggars, scammers and very rude and racist users to date and that's why I now have my profile and my media stuff locked tight. Today I have had 9 random invites (private profiles; very low steam level (0-3) (Russian) profiles, one with his steam profile not even set up, 2 with VAC bans and 1 with a swastika avatar with the words: fuck the Jews.

Maybe from out of the proverbial woodwork. Maybe from friends of friends of my Steam friends or my Steam groups. I was in a lot of Steam games groups and what I did is cutt them back from more than a 150 groups too 43. Also I hear that high Steam level users are getting " collected " by other users and for " boosting " certain game accounts like fe CSGO accounts.
Edit. I forgot to mention that there was a time that I had an open Steam inventory with decent stuff in it. This attracted good people (for trading) but also some bad (beggars) and very bad (scammers) ones to me. So now I have a closed inventory.

There was a time that I accepted nearly every Steam invite I got. Most of them were beggars, scammers and rude people that had/have problems with my profile. I have been said things like (baby)killer, (child)murderer, stinking Jew, we didn't gass enough of you, Jews make good firewood etc So out of experience I think that last guy was probably wanting to rant/slur me but he didn't get the chance and I reported him or her to Steam for an offensive avatar.

lol XD At least they kept calm, long story short: I had (long, long time ago) someone add me with the fake generic "sexy" girl profile pic. They tried to give me some sob story that they where a poor girl looking for a guy & "really needed" games/items. I played along for a bit for fun to see what would happen, at one point they said they where naked & thinking of me...O.o Like wtf? After that I told them I was girl & I'm not stupid. They had a fit after that saying I wasted their time, called me a bunch of things, then unfriend me XD I never laughed so hard. Other beggars/scammers I've dealt with where just more straight to the point, very boring.. But I've found since putting "NO BEGGING Begging will get you blocked & reported." I've gotten none so far :D YAY!

Just thinking about the situation. Some lone girl is chatting with a stranger, things move on and she gets aroused. Removes her clothing and is ready for pleasure times which are denied because stranger reveales to be female herself. Such a disappointment! No new friends were made that day. Such shame.
