Could anyone explain to me what sort by "Available" does? Does it only show the boxes that have giveaways that I COULD enter based on level requirement, region restrictions, already owned, etc.?

it removes all the region locked/level gated/owned stuff that you can't enter(or open).
very useful for finding what you want to open vs looking at boxes to updoot

According to cg it doesn't work for people on your BL so you can't blacklist somebody to check the disappeared boxes to see if they've made any.

With the numbers of possible gifters, that certainly would require quite a lot of work for pointless result.

The Most Liked Designs page now only includes up to 10 gift boxes from each day.
This feels like a step backwards imo. Yes, the previous iteration tended to favor older boxes, but it was also a QoL feature that enabled the community to 'soft filter' troll boxes downwards over time.
The ability to manually rotate boxes is kinda neat I guess? Although it doesn't seem to work on mobile, so that's a little disappointing.

I like the changes for this year. One question though about mobile devices:
You can click and drag on gift boxes to rotate and view them from every angle.
If you double click on a gift box the top will be removed, allowing you to see any secrets hidden in the bottom.
I'm on an Android device - Is there a different browser or setting that makes this possible?
For me with Android Chrome browser, double tap only zooms in but doesnt pop the box top, and even if I zoom out to the full page I can't drag to rotate.

Is it possible to make steam gift card giveaways? I was hoping to gift Sea of Stars this year to support the devs as I've liked that game so much and even bought the special edition on the switch as well, but it doesn't seem to be available outside of the steam store itself, and I'm not sure what else to give lol.

You can always befriend the winner on Steam and then directly gift them the game on Steam itself. There could be region restrictions on this https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/58D3-B80D-2943-3CC6#gifts but otherwise, steam gifting is an option.

Yeah gifting to US is very hit or miss, and it never seems to work for Australia.

Steam Giftcard giveaways is only an option for CG, some staff have given one once or twice but CG had to approve and such I think.
Reason for this is because the giftcard is in the creators own currency and gets converted to the winners (eg. CG gives $50 giftcard, he is in US, winner is myself, in Australia so receive ~$78 AUD)
Given the amount of currencies that Steam uses, the conversation rate changing all the time, and CV calculations ... it is just like trying to predict the division 1 lotto 7 times in a row.

Not sure why anyone would do that since it decreases their chances of winning unless they also have multiple accounts though.
There's no way to fix that unfortunately. Unless boxes went up just for 24 hours maybe and that would still give plenty of time to the multi-accounters to skew the game in their favor.

You could use your browser's developer tools to replace the gif's source URL for each side of the package with the URL of a gif that preferably shows some baby kittens. Small puppies might work as well. I hope that helps and makes you be well again quickly.

None that i know of but you could try creating such a thread.
Canva, Figma and similars (googling any show a bunch of similar in the results) are very user friendly easy to use for simple designs.
I never tried but nowadays theres also a bunch of AI tools to generate any sort of image...
I just simple images from search as clues, very simple, but better then just colors imo. like this
Giphy and such are also great to find some interesting fitting gifs

I found some tiled christmas pattern that I ended up using for my (25 and counting) gifts.
I never thought of using GIFs for the artwork or doing thant transparrent/alpha effect that some people do

I wish there was a way to re-edit the gift box after it's been uploaded. One side of my box stopped loading the jpg and ruined the whole box. I don't know if it accidentally got deleted from imgur's server or maybe it got mistakenly flagged as inappropriate?

suggestions for future years(as its likely to late to implement for this year)
we need a way to mark packages owned on SG, its kind of disappointing to peek a box or yolo open one to find a package that you own all the contents of(think the Middle Earth Shadow of XXXXX GOTY's, Star Wars collections, batman arkham collection, etc...), while good contents its disappointing to use our limited peeks/opens on them because the API doesn't show we own something.
a separate button for marking things as want to peek/open, with only available/like/peek/opened being filterable the like button becomes a way to mark boxes(other than keeping a bunch of tabs open) you may want to peek/open but not necessarily actually like the box design of, would help remove the false likes from the most liked designs.
PS: love this event every year, its fun to see peoples creativity, how they make the clues of the box contents and ofc, trying to make fun boxes(which I admit I am not the best at, but hopefully people can guess my box contents based on design).
