I haven't seen any other posts about this, so I thought I would mention it. I'm posting it in Off-Topic at the moment since it has nothing to do with Steam.

If you like SMAC, check out Pandora: First Contact. It's like SMAC but in a modern engine. Not sold on Gog though.

It's not as good as SMAC though. It's a fine game, but the AI is worse (or at least it feels that way, it's possible that the SMAC AI was cheating more, which made it seem better), and it does not have the same amount of personality.

This post is kinda about the GOG summer sale, but could be great to have a list of the better deals.

The Dark Sun games are some of the best RPGs ever made. They'd be right up there alongside VtMB among my absolute favorite games..
Except they're also some of the most absolutely, infamously broken games of all times. The games are essentially guaranteed to eventually break progression pathing on you, preventing you from moving forward. This may occur near the start, or near the end, or somewhere in the middle of the game. I've played the games an impressive number of times, and yet I've never managed to get them to let me to run through a game fully even once. :X

I highly recommend Dark Sun be played since, like VtMB, it has a rich amount of setting depth, minimally restricted freedom of progression, and versatile progression options. Just, prepare yourself for the risk of frustration beforehand, so it doesn't catch you by surprise. :X

I haven't heard of the GOG versions being any different in that regard, but by all means, let me know if you don't end up having any problems- I'd make sure to go out and buy myself a GOG copy as well, then. <3
(Also, do make sure to play the games in order- if you do manage to make it through Shattered Lands, you can then import your party into Wake of the Ravager. ^.^)

BEST RPG DEALS OF THE SUMMER
REBEL GALAXY FREE WITH YOUR FIRST PURCHASE DURING THE SALE

Okay, I know Rebel Galaxy is tagged as RPG, but it's still an oddly fringe association to a genre-favoring sale. :P

None of the sales so far seem especially notable [in the sense of bypassing previous lows] (other than perhaps the 35% off on Blackwood Crossing- don't think it's had any sales yet), and it looks like they skipped purchase incentives this time around.
Bit of a pity, that.

Well, it's like having a music sale go "Best Woodwind Deals of the Summer! ..free trumpet with any first purchase". I mean, it's a wind instrument, sure- but there's still a bit of a genre distortion there. :P
As you say, the placement is what makes it seem so peculiar- otherwise there wouldn't be that strong sense that the two concepts should somehow be related to one another.

There's a bunch of stuff from my wish list on sale. Some of it 70%, some 75-80%, even a few at 90% off. I'm not sure what you're seeing if you think such price reductions aren't "notable."

Maybe not looking for those, or already owned.. :)
I personally would have loved to see an Arx Fatalis sale, but absolutely no discount sadly.

Tempted to get Primordia, have it in my wishlist for a long time, but it may get the same discount in the Steam Summer Sale :x.

According to SteamDB, every year for the past 3 years Primordia has limited itself to one single end-of-the-year sale on Steam (In Oct, Nov, and Dec, respectively), each at 80% discount. In other words, it's unlikely to pop up during the Summer Sale- but if the trend continues, it should pop up again by January, and with the same discount GOG currently has for it.

Personally, I don't see why one wouldn't prefer the GOG version- but if you don't, the Steam version matching the current discount again is a fairly safe bet. If you're planning on playing soon, however, the GOG version may be the better option regardless, given that of the game's 11 recorded Steam sales, only 2 occurred in the Summer (and the rest were all end-of-year). Of course, 1 in 5~ odds are high enough that this may be your year.. :P

I consider the Steam version mostly for the cards and achievements, I do like making badges for games I enjoy. They are not deal breaker however and I do like having DRM-free version.

Primordia might even have achievements in GOG Galaxy since it a fairly new game iirc

Edit: Apparently not if this list is correct and up to date.

I didn't know deals were exclusively for Steam. I figured they were for ALL deals (because I think people who would want Overwatch or maybe some other non-steam games with a good deal would be ecstatic)

Doubt I'll get anything this time around. Their CAD pricing is just ... weird. That and most of the games there are also on Steam so ..... ya.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that (about the CAD pricing); thought I was just overanalyzing it or something.

Finally grabbed that expansion pass for TW3. Also, I've bought Singularity. I just can't pirate those two games, I'd feel really bad :p

I cleaned up my wishlists and waitlists, went down to 18 items in total, yet still got a hit with the old Bard's Tale. I like this sale. ^__^

Oh and if you already spent $10 during the Summer Sale, no worries – the offer is retroactive and you'll soon get your copy of Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

Finally, I completed my Ultima series collection on GOG -- the remaining games only cost me $5.98 (bought Ultima 1+2+3+7+8+9).
("Akalabeth: World of Doom" isn't officially an Ultima game, but I have that too.)

To my pleasure, I've found out that GOG have added more free games: Shadow Warrior Classic Complete with add-ons, Eschalon: Book I, Sang-Froid-Tales of Werewolves, and CAYNE. You can also get free games by connecting your Steam and GOG accounts https://www.gog.com/connect

I have to start buying my GOG wishlist games here
