Hey guys, I haven't really been active on here or playing games in general. So I wanted to give away some games and get your opinions on what I should play next!

Here's a list of games I want to play. I'm interested to hear which ones you guys enjoyed.

Also I hope you all have been doing well. I haven't been on in a while so I don't know if the site has changed much in the past year.

I'll suggest Batman or Outer Wilds. Both are great stories, with good game mechanics and neither get to that point where they feel like they have outstayed their welcome.

I'd go for Unheard, it's unique and fairly short.
Or Hades for some fast-paced roguelike action.
If you feel lazy and don't have the energy for all the button clicking, you can try playing Phoenix Wright, Zero Escape or Umineko.
Also Guaccamelee is an excellent metroidvania, very fun to sink a few hours in.

NieR Automata is fantastic; the music, atmosphere and story make a great experience that will stick with you.

Outer Wilds is a unique adventure game with a time loop mechanic that I really enjoyed.

Gris is a beautiful music and color experience that's not too long or difficult and definitely worth playing through.

Far Cry 3 - My favorite of the series, Vaas is a great antagonist.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines is an ambitious branching RPG with lots of great dialogue and gameplay options. The graphics are dated, and you'll want to use some of the unofficial mods / fixes but it's definitely worthwhile.

I could pick a few more but I've said enough already =D

Spyro: reignited trilogy was amazing, I loved all the worlds, maps and levels. Okami holds a special place in my heart as my favorite game, it was my first videogame, I played it on the Wii and it led me to getting a PC and a steam account so I'm biased. Trails in the Sky, it's pretty slow until you leave the first zone, but I got the second chapter immediately after although I haven't had time to play it just yet. If all goes well I'll have time in December.
Finding Paradise, GRIS, Hellblade Senua's sacrifice are all fantastic choices as well.

I would hold off on two of them. Ladra, because I've been in contact with the dev and they will release an update to fix two broken achievements (they are moving rn so it's busy.) and Paradise Killer because they plan to release achievements for the game late 2021 or early 2022.

thank you for the recs! Also thanks for letting me know about Ladra and Paradise Killer. I'm not an achievement hunter, but its nice to know that they will be added/fixed.

You've got some really great choices there. I would recommend Zero Escape: The Nonary Games. I played them on PS Vita and Nintendo DS/3DS. I loved it so much I also bought it on Steam to replay again.

thomas was alone. underrated, short and memorable. probably the only game in this list from the ones I know, that really surprised me in good ways. However I admit I have heard good things about Beyond Eyes and Rusty Lake Hotel.

Edit :
PS: I just realized the list was elsewhere. Damn you have Gris. Wish I had that. :P

i guess i should ignore with my suggestion the games where you already got 1+ achievements?

Hellblad and Fallout New Vegas, would be clear choices.
Or Scheming Through The Apocalypse and tell me how was it, because i have it on my backlog too, bought some sale ago on steam but still on my backlog:-)

I did start a lot of games back in the day, then life got in the way and I stopped playing. But I forgot most of the games and will replay them. So any game is up for recommendation!

Many good games there! Let me pick 3, in order of recommendation:

  1. Mass Effect 2: epic, must-play RPG, but unlike many others it values your time. I mean, all mechanics are interesting (one notable exception), and the storytelling is superb.
  2. Hellblade: also memorable, and not too long.
  3. Batman: Arkham Asylum is very impressive, especially if it is the first in the series you play. Maybe (?) its gameplay has been improved in the sequels, but back when I played it I was really amazed.

Edit: I just realized Zorion987's post says it pretty much the same way I would! I guess I got to play the other games in his/her post! :D

Out of the ones in your list, I've finished: (in order of recommendation)

  • Zero Escape - This is my favorite VN series of all time. Amazing story, great puzzles. Not much to say without spoiling, but I recommend this wholeheartedly if you like mysteries and solving puzzles.
  • Hades - I enjoyed Hades a lot despite initially thinking I was going to go into the game for the story. I did like the story very much as expected, but the fighting/gameplay aspect is actually fun for me as well. I'm very impatient when playing games so dying over and over again usually frustrates me but in Hades almost every playthrough has a unique aspect to it so I really liked it.
  • Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney (though I played this on the DS) - Similar to Zero Escape. Great story and puzzles.
  • Danganronpa V3 - My favorite DR game. I LOVED the ending, contrary to (I think?) a lot of people's opinion. Might be a minor spoiler: It's... definitely surprising, but in hindsight very much something I should have expected out of Danganronpa. :)
  • NieR:Automata - I thought this was very interesting. IMO falls flat in some parts, but I still recommend the game since it was enjoyable for me. Getting all the endings/achievements is quite the chore, though, if you're interested in that. Minor spoiler: There's a way to get the achievements legitimately without actually doing them. You can buy them in-game. I thought that was quite an interesting/unique aspect of this game.
  • VA-11 Hall-A - Cute. Liked the premise. Not much to say except it's a good game and a good story. Not my favorite, but definitely something I'd recommend.
  • Life is Strange 2 - This was my least favorite LiS game, but I'd say it was still enjoyable. I didn't like the endings, but that's a personal preference. I liked the characters, though.
  • Graveyard Keeper - Quite grindy. I liked the premise, and the game's fun to play for a bit. Gets repetitive after a while.
  • The Descendant - This was okay, I guess? I thought the ending was a bit subpar, but the story's interesting anyway. Be warned that it doesn't have an option for chapter select or skip cutscenes, so you'll have to play the whole game over again if you want to choose differently or see other endings. I would have ranked it higher than LiS2 if it had those options.

Played but haven't finished:

  • Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - Playing it right now, actually. So far so good. I'm enjoying it quite well. Expectedly, the voices creep me out a lot, so that's fun. XD
  • My Time At Portia - Long game. I enjoyed this one a lot. Fun if you like farming games. Haven't finished it yet though.
  • Undertale - Tried playing it but for some reason it didn't really stick.
  • Warlock of Firetop Mountain - Not much of a fan of repetitiveness without progress, I guess. Just a personal preference. It was interesting, but not being able to carry anything over to a new playthrough was quite a bummer for me. Especially since some parts of a playthrough are tied to luck.

Good luck on playing games! Hope you have a lot of fun ^^

I enjoyed Warlock of Firetop Mountain but can understand how going back to the start with nothing tangible to help on the next run can be discouraging. While there are better characters you can buy for different styles of runs (high strength vs high int) the knowledge of the game is what helps you in future runs, as knowing what is waiting behind each choice actually can avoid ALL of the luck. For instance, if you memorize the game and make all the correct choices you will win 100% of the time with 0 battles or luck involved, though the fun of the game is getting closer to that point enough to get to the top and slay the titular character.
If you enjoyed the methodical experimentation I would revisit it with this playstyle in mind because getting all the way to the end gives such a feeling of accomplishment.

Play Muse Dash a little more so you can realize what a waste of time it is and drop it from your list.

Welcome back! Coming back to gaming after a break, I will suggest a game you are familiar with, like Death Stranding? Most of it is traveling around the terrain and they recently made new updates? Or start with a game that is short, beautiful and comfort pace like Gris. Ease your way back to gaming. Either way, enjoy your games ^^
Cheers, Cruse~

hahahaha I absolutely relate to having gobs of games I really want to play all at once and yet not playing any of them

Anyway you've already got a bundle of recommendations (some of which are fairly quick so they'd be great to finish and check off the list) so I'm not going to suggest you play it next but don't forget about Bug Fables there! It's really solid and charming.

Hmm, I will say you've got a ton of good choices here.

Batman Arkham Asylum is the start of a great franchise and Asylum still holds up today.

Binding of Isaac is probably the best roguelike game ever, so it's a great one to play.

Sunset Overdrive was a bit too try-hard for me, but it definitely grew on me. If you play with KB&M, then make sure to turn on auto-aim since otherwise you'll miss 95% of your shots, even if you're amazing at aiming :D

Man of Medan was a really neat story. Expect a discount Until Dawn and you'll probably still find things this game does better. Definitely a good one if you want to go for a ride, rather than being actively playing all the time.

Control is a fun power fantasy. Everything else is a hit and miss, but overall I did enjoy it.

Vampyr in my opinion is one of the best AA games out there. Low budget, but high amounts of creativity. You really will see the game shine with its dialogue and stories. Ironically, the main story is fine, but definitely not as good as the characters. Make sure not to do a pacifist run since for your first run it will ruin the game. It has a great artstyle and overall it's just really fun. Some technical clunk and some combat issues, but nothing that annoyed me really.

Far Cry is a great time. I highly recommend playing them in order though. I didn't like the first game. But if you go for it, then make sure to get the patch so you don't have enemies shooting you through the walls.

Fallout New Vegas is a classic at this point. The clunky gameplay is balanced with great storytelling and a very nice soundtrack.

Saints Row 4 is a departure in the SR series, but it's a pretty cool one. A really satisfying movement system, superpowers and another dumb story to see. It's a great time in my opinion. I've beat it three times at this point.

Mass Effect 2 is best if you play the entire trilogy. Otherwise as a standalone game it's decent, but it just peaks as a part of the series, rather than a standalone entry.

Call of Duty WW2 had a great campaign. Bombastic and visually amazing. You'll never get Citizen Kane here, but I doubt you expect it anyways.

Middle-Earth Shadow of War is pretty much a perfect game for what it is. It's an across-the-board upgrade of Mordor. Literally nothing is worse here than Mordor. The game peaked with its potential and the story is also really good. I wish I could play this game for the first time once again.

The Darkness 2 is a fun dumb shooter. Not more to it, but it's a fun time.

Mount & Blade With Fire and Sword is fun if you're a Warband fan. It's generally a lesser version in my eyes, but it's so different that it's just worth playing just to experience it.

Hope this was useful. Everything else I either never played or just didn't like.

From the wee list above, Gris would be my choice (shameless review plug), also because you started it already. It was a joyful experience more than a game as it's pretty straightforward and fairly easy, quite relaxing too, so it depends whether you're after something less taxing..

I'll +1 Okami since its in the top 5 and it was a really fun time for me. It's great if you want some classic 3D Zelda style gameplay and exploration. It can actually be quite a refreshing experience given more recent open games have been mostly modern open-world style.

I'll also recommended Sonic Generations if your looking for something a bit shorter. Really solid modern 3D Sonic game among all the modern 3D sonic games.

Some pretty cool games in your backlog though, so I'm sure you'll have fun whatever you do end up playing!
