What are your thoughts about the new changes to Humble Choice?

View Results
[I like the spotlight game(s)] Itโ€™s good to see that they still feature high quality games. All hope is not lost.
[I keep my subscription only for the Humble Store discount] I donโ€™t like the games, but in all fairness I spend so much on Humble Store purchases that it's more beneficial to keep my subscription running rather than lose the 20% discount.
[Only with limited deal] If they bring back the $6 deal, then you can maybe count me in, otherwise itโ€™s too expensive.
[Happy] As a Platinum subscriber, I can only see this as a positive change: now I'm paying less for the same content!
[Neutral] Iโ€™ve been a Classic subscriber since forever and these changes do not affect me.
[Pause] I used to get excited for Humble Choice. I still do. Until I see the games and I tell myself "maybe next month".
[Disappointed] WTF IGN, 8 games + 1 DLC now instead of 12? REALLY???!!! Is that how it's going to be from now on?
[Canceling the subscription] I am extremely disappointed by the quality drop and now with the new changes, thereโ€™s really no point in continuing to be subscribed.
[Choicetato] Throughout the Humble Choice years, we rarely had a Choice regarding the games to unlock. Now with unified plans we truly have no Choice anymore.

Per Aspera, Before We Leave, Black Book and Paradise lost for $8 USD seems like a solid choice for me. Got a couple of games for giveaways too, so I call that a win :)

So, claiming Per Aspera shows me a key, but trying to redeem it gives me a "This product isn't available for sale in your country", though I can see it in the client. Seems there are quite a few glitches with the Per Aspera keys, let's see if/when they'll be fixed.

Son of a.... I JUST bought Borderlands 3 and played it for the first time last damn week! I guess I'll cash this in so I can activate the DLC.

Well in that case I might just pause again. I'm not that interested in any of the other games anyway.

So much about them improving the choice bundle, heh. This is just terrible.

At first I was excited over Borderlands 3 being in the bundle, but then some people realized and told me it's not worth it. You only get the base game and Directors Cut is just a single DLC out of many! Buying the Ultimate Edition on steam would be cheaper than buying the base game in bundle and then having to buy the two season passes separately since there's no upgrade option on steam. DO NOT BUY THE BUNDLE JUST FOR BORDERLANDS 3 BECAUSE OF THAT.

While the other games have positive reviews, they're just so niche and unfortunately not a single one catches my interest. And this is another thing HB has issue with, there have been waaaay too many very niche games in their bundles lately, or dead multiplayer games.

I've completely lost hope in them now, screw Humble. However is doing the hunting for games to put in their bundles clearly has no idea what the heck are they doing.

Is is worth it to buy it for Borderlands 3?

If you have any interest in the DLCs, not worth it.

I'd say absolutely not, since it doesn't include the... it doesn't include either of the Season Passes... because we need 2 of them now apparently. Knowing how scummy 2K (the publisher) is, buying those separately will be more expensive that buying the base game with the Season Passes included later on.

I've been pissed off by 2K enough times to suggest never buying only the base game from anything they have a finger in.

Edit: Ok, I actually looked at what the "second Season Pass" includes and... ewww, it's 50% cosmetics. Meaning that this bundle would actually leave you with half of the real content it has in it (supposedly the Director's Cut actually has stuff in it now). But then, if you want the full game you'd have to get the other "Cut" separately and, honestly, don't expect it to ever be available on it's own at non-rip-off price. And you can still expect to be price gouged on the first (real) Season Pass.

For anyone interested: If you change your annual classic sub to the new annual choice sub, you keep your 20% discount. Although it is automatically set to "10% discount, 10% to charity" and you have to go into the settings to change it back to "20% discount".

Black Book is phenomenal, definitely the best game I played last year. It's something really fresh lore-wise: a Russian game about that mythological tradition that was eliminated by Bolsheviks, a curious mix of Orthodox Christian and pagan traditions (as a result, we are not much more aware of our pre-revolution folklore than foreigners are). It's brilliantly written, has an extremely likable protagonist and an actually quite pleasant gameplay (and that's coming from a person who generally doesn't enjoy card-based games). I don't know though why they've decided to bundle it so early; shame for me, I wanted to make a GA for it for my cakeday, and now it wouldn't make sense.

I can also recommend Paradise Lost: this one is not a masterpiece, but still probably the best walking simulator of 2021. And I'll try to win Calico. All in all, not a terrible bundle.

Oh my! This bundle is NOT bad at all but holy cow they hyped it like it was going to be some next level crazy deal. "Humble Choice is going NEXT LEVEL or some kind of BS like that!! They really dropped the ball on this one. My expectations were just way too high and it's entirely my fault on this one. 3rd 2K Game in the past 12 months (Civilization VI, Mafia Def Edition and now Borderlands). Would definitely buy this bundle if they bring back $6 coupon offer!!

A card game, two city builders, a re-bundle I couldn't be less interested in, a walking simulator and two games on my ignore list.
Wow. Since it's not a Choice anymore, how about they just rename the "bundle" "One Month, One Game" and just be done with it.

Not that Borderlands 3 is not a good game but considering the base game goes for 12 euros on sale and the price will most likely go down now... yeah another skip.

By the way, if they're going to have one AAA in the bundle again, would be really cool if they made it a little less obvious that their point is just to get us to buy the what? 80 bucks of DLC on their store?

dont get me wrong, i dont like this bundle as well, but i think its a good deal for many people...
you say, borderlands 3 gets sold for 12 EUR, but here you get it for 10 EUR together with a dlc and seven other games. so if you want to get it but didnt bought it in the past, its not a bad deal. if you want some of the other games, it might even be an awesome deal.

sadly for my own, iยดm not interested in borderlands :/

One of many DLC to be bought in the Humble store but you're right.
To be honest, I'm more concerned about the lack of diversity of the 7 other games but like I said it's a personal opinion and another skip for me.

Comment has been collapsed.

you are right, they sure want to increase the number of sold dlc, so its a smart move to sell the base game cheap. but maybe the base game alone is worth its money and you dont need to get the dlc? i checked them on steam and it seems that only one dlc is recommendable. so maybe only collectors might want to buy all dlc?

btw: to see finaly again a tripple a game in the choice let me hope for the next bundles^^

Was excited for Borderlands 3, Black Book and Everhood, but now that I see that Borderlands 3 comes with a run lock - not so much.

Permalink

What's wrong with the run lock?
At worst it lasts ~90 days.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I didn't know that. My only experience with run lock was with Portal 2 ages ago. I moved countries and couldn't play my locked copy anymore, had to ask Steam support to remove it from my account and then bought it again.
Not to say that I don't believe you, but do you have a source on 90 days thing?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's generally accepted that a run lock lasts 90d after purchase / activation.
That was a good enough deterrent to prevent people from VPNing for RU key activation and such, in times before account region affected key registration. After all, what kid would want to buy the newest Calladooty and then not play it for three months?

Either your "ages ago" was before Valve added what I'll call run lock expiry, or you lacked the 90 days of patience.

I think I actually preferred when they had a focus on mid budget / indie games. But the value is still there, despite already owning BL3. Black Book, Per Aspera and Everhood are wishlisted. I'll probably keep Before We Leave too. BL3 and the rest should make some decent GAs.

How is the Borderlands 3 experience without the DLC? Is it a full game?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nope, you need at least the first season pass to have the whole story...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's not true at all. Which of the four storylines from the season pass is necessary for the "whole story"?
Psycho-Krieg? Covers a character from previous games.
Moxxi? Covers a side character and her backstory with Jack, from earlier days.
Wainwright & Hammerlock? Some extra covering two side characters.
Bounty of Blood? Doesn't even include any character or story element.

The base game is a full game.

Not a bad selection honestly. Borderlands 3 as the only headliner sucks though and the "Director's Cut" thing is outright misleading as it's only one (shitty) DLC amongst many.

So what to do now as a former Humble Monthly Classic subscriber?

In my settings I still see the Classic plan and that my next bill will be 12$ (instead of 10โ‚ฌ for the new plan).

Should I just cancel and then re-sub when I like a month this time or what?

That's basically it if you don't want to pay in dollars. There are no extra benefits to the Classic plan now.
