I used SAM years ago on VAC protected game and no ban (and countless other games later). I've never heard of anyone getting banned because of SAM or similar program. Best would be to do your own research just google it.

I don't know how these things work so I'll just share my experience. I used SAM on L4D2 to get one achievement, no ban. I let IdleMaster get me cards from CS:GO and no ban either. You may be right, it might be possible to get banned but I wouldn't know.

Wow, that was kind of embarrassingly poorly handled :P There was something odd about how it handled repeats. Like what are the odds that someone with 4k games in their library ends up with an almost identical 4 games on "Spin cycles" on day 2 & 4. Only one game differed, and it was a game I had on day 3. Same holds true for "clear the backlog", I'm currently looking at the games I had day 1, with only one difference.

My "Clear The Backlog" changed daily (though it did list a few repeats each time), but I don't believe my "Spin Cycle" changed at all, after the first day. It's still showing the same games today, as it was Day 1. It's also unusual in that it only ever listed 4 games, while the others have 5+"View All".
Then there's the glitch regarding it recognizing Spin Cycle and CtBacklog completion on the second day, and the fact that it should have been 18/15 if they wanted to create a buffer (17/15 seems to serve no constructive benefit whatsoever), and the generally poor conception of categories in relating them to actually stimulating non-simulated play, and..
Anyway, so yeah:

But, cha'know, it is a Steam event. I go into them expecting them to be underwhelmingly handled. I'm just appreciative enough of the fact that there weren't client bugs this time, like there was Winter Sale 2015, with its mixed up account displays, or whichever Halloween Sale it was after that, where the client had various (messenger and client crashing / black screen) bugs introduced.

Spin cycle absolutely changed for me. I had both day 3 and 4 open in different windows when the event finally updated today, with only one game being the same between day 3 & 4. Incidentally it was the game I started on day 3!
Oh yeah, it could have been worse! This time they just showed that whoever worked on this event don't know how to even do a simple randomization properly, you know, one of the very first things anyone learning programming will learn how to do. They did at least not try to touch anything that could break something else.

Would have been more useful to give people the possibility to turn them into gems too. What's the point of selling them for 2-3 cents each? It's not even worth the time to list them on the market.

Even if you put it on the market, it will not be sold anyway (depends on your country) - through different currencies and their conversion is the order completely broken, with such merged items.
Example: There are 10.000 items for the price of 0.03 € - you add yours and the logic would say your item is rank 10.001
If 1000 items were sold per day - you should get rid of yours in ~10 days ....nope, that's not how it works^^
any item which get put on the market in a currency below the value of the euro will be listed before yours
which causes your item to slide further backwards or not move at all - After just under 6 months, the transaction will expire
and the item will end up in your inventory again ....you put it back on the market and it will be even further back in the postion

Cards, backgrounds, and emoticons don't expire. I've got some that have been listed for over a year at this point.
But your point is definitely valid. I've had some junk items from the Winter Sale listed at $0.03 for 5+ months now and they still haven't sold.
