My nephew is autistic and I he REALLY talks a lot about wanting to play Fallout (he saw a trailer at my house and since then has talked about it for months). I want to buy him the game he wants but he's seen videos for both and thinks that they are the same game.

He's very competent/ with games (just not socially or with authority figures), so I feel confident he will enjoy either. My question is which one should I buy for him? Further, which editions?

Thanks in advance for your help!

NV is better than fallout 3 in my opinion:

  • better companion system

  • much better DLCs

  • diverse story line

  • More factions to interact with

  • Hardcore mode

  • No serious crash issues that require manual fix

and many others..
But still, get fallout 3 if you have the budget.

Your nephew will like 3. 3 is something with a better storyline, more action. NV is overall better but since he's young, he'll like 3. Saying this because my little brother preferred 3 over NV a few years back.

ive been trying to play FO3 for the first time for the past week. its horrible. i have it updated and patched up th ebutt and even so. there is still save file corruptions, game crashes, and random minimizes where you cant even maximize the game again

and these issues have no fix's .... its just brutal and im having a horrible time dealing with them

I enjoyed New Vegas a bit more, but you should've played both.
Also, the radio on Fallout 3 is much better than the New Vegas Radio Stations (50% Johnny Guitar).

Why not buy him both? If he enjoys the one you bought him, he will enjoy the other one, too.
