I was never a fan of those "point n'click" type genres. They drive me insane.

I haven't tried Torchlight 1 yet, but if it is like every other point and click game then I wouldn't buy Torchlight 2.

You could say that, in a literal sense, almost every single game is a point and click game, most especially ARPGs and RTS games if you really take it in a literal sense.

But when one says point and click, one talks about adventure games like Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Sam and Max, and such and such.

I consider point and click games what you guys call "Hack & Slash". Games like Silkroad, Diablo, Divine Divinity, etc are what I would call Point and Click.

I consider Hack & Slash games like Dynasty Warriors, Sengoku Basara, Samurai Warriors, Orochi, etc where you have huge mobs of enemies and you're literally hacking and slashing, not just clicking a bunch of crap.

I consider adventure games Sam & Max, Monkey Island, etc. (I don't consider them point and click).

While you are free to use your own definitions and classifications for games, I hope you understand that this will cause confusion as these are outside the context in nomenclature.

Well... when I was growing up the first game I ever heard the term used as "Hack and Slash" was Dynasty Warriors. So I always considered games like Dynasty Warriors hack and slash, versus pointing and clicking a monster and having everything done for me.

I never quite understood how that was fun... it's one of the reasons I couldn't enjoy Fallout 1 & 2 + Brotherhood of Steel no matter how hard I tried.

To each his own though hmm :P

You must be quite young, then.

Hack and slash is a bit of a misnomer when used to refer to Diablo-like games nowadays though, you are correct at that - they're more commonly referred to as action-rpgs rather than hack and slash. They used to be hack and slash, but the term has evolved to refer to beat em up games like.. well, Dynasty Warriors, God of War, Darksiders, etc.

Although I still stand by my point that calling ARPGs point and clicks would cause confusion.

That said, its a shame that you're turned off from Torchlight 2 by prior experiences in the genre. It's a blast to play through.

I'm not turned off from it, I can't play it cause my computer sucks, so I wouldn't be able to get the full experience xD

I don't lag when I play inside a dungeon though, so if the game is really superb then I might consider playing it.

My computer can definitely handle Torchlight 1, and I will try it when I get the time to.

And yes, I am rather young :P

If you can run Torchlight 1, you can pretty much be guaranteed to run Torchlight 2. There's a demo on Steam, try that out first.

Well like I said... I was in CBT so I already tested it. I only lag when I'm outside of a dungeon, but I'll probably end up buying Torchlight II anyways just to test it out.

I started Torchlight 1 last night...

I kept saying "Man this game is so boring..." while I was playing it the whole time. Before I knew it I was playing it for 3 hours. Guess the game must be fun ahahahaha

Heh, well, glad you found it fun.. In a way.

Oh and, you didn't mention being in CBT. But cool.

Torchlight and Torchlight 2 aren't point 'n' click games. They are action role-playing games and are full of fun. You should try playing them!

They kind of are, though you can use keyboard controls (was in CBT for Torchlight 2)

For example: Click a monster, my character attacks for me. Monster dies. Click another monster. (Rinse and Repeat)

As already said, you can use your own definitions. You can also call a cat "dog".
Hack and Slash IS Hack and Slash. Either it involves "clicking on a target" or "pushing the A button", the concept is the same : you must kill lots of mobs, gather loot and finish "quests".

If you like this genre then for sure you should get it. Game is awesome, graphics amazing and gameplay is great. Go to a friend who has TL2 and try the game, you will not regret it in any case. :) Enjoy

Also soon it will have steam workshop integration (mods) + new free content in updates.

D3 is too repetitive.

Aesthetically it looks great imo.

Technically it might not be all that great but the art style fits well with the simple character models. It also helps that there's lots of pretty particle effects going off all the time, as well as some really well-done animations. It looks better in motion than it does in screenshots.

Why play Torchlight 2 when there are games such as Diablo 2 or 3? I can understand if you can't afford Diablo 3 or you played Diablo series already and want to try Torchlight, but comparing them? Torchlight is stupid. Diablo 3 is better. huehue lets fight

Yes. Yes, yes and yes. More yes. You take some yes, and put it up on the wall, and stare at it for a while. You take some yes, then some yes, then some yes, then some yes, and then you have a "Yes" stack!

Great improvement from the first. It's got more EVERYTHING, and it plays much better. Some of the boss fights are awesome, but some can be painfully cheap and annoying. The devs are all (ugh) Redditors so there is a large Reddit influence, and there are a few easter eggs that just plain out don't fit, but that doesn't really detract from an awesome game.

Forgot to mention it's also clunky as fuck. Sometimes you click somewhere and instead of walking there it attacks nearby monsters.

And was a respec system really that hard to implement? I have to start a new damn character after 60 levels because I'm not happy with the skills I chose at level 2?

You can't really base your opinion on the first one because it's terrible. The environment and enemies are too damn repetitive. Even if the second one isn't a great game either, it's a major improvement over the piece of crap that was the first one.

That's something that i'm fearful of, i really don't want to have a repetitive experience level after level, i've noticed that the first one (at least till where i got so far) can get boring pretty fast. Hopefully the demo will give me some insight on this.

It's nowhere near as repetitive as the first one which gets boring after an hour or two, but it does get boring fast too. The game rewards you for levelling the same skills over and over which makes you decide either learn many skills and do no damage or rape everything with 1 click but have only 3 skills.

The co-op factor can probably make it a lot more enjoyable though. You can always pick up a free copy at the bay and try it out.

totally worth getting. it fills the whole in my heart that diablo 3 created. it takes a couple hours to really pick up but the more you understand about the systems and the more you get used to them the better the game is.

I honestly have no idea if it's worth it or not. I've tried the demo several times now, I'm just not sure how I feel about the classes. The lack of a dedicated summoner (meaning summons without 30-60 seconds time limits) hurts for me since those tend to be my favorite classes to play. It may change at later levels but the lower level skills aren't really all that exciting, despite the fact they all have 3 tiers if you're willing to invest enough points in them. There doesn't appear to be any real tanking class, nobody seems to have more than one really good tanking passive, so that eliminates my second favorite type of character to play. I just don't know. I may wait for it to go on sale, doesn't seem worth $20 for me so far.
