I'm here for about 5 months now, have participated 1250 GA's and didn't win anything. I've contributed 6 games to this community, for nothing. I've started looking up the winners of recent GA's I've entered, and as far as I'm concerend, there are 9 out of 10 people who've won much more than they've gifted, gosh there are people with 50+ wins each year... I've started blacklisting them, cause I have to consider them bots, even if they participate in discussions doesn't mean they don't use scripts to enter GA's. There's about 1 out of 10 person who has a - imho - realistic win rate, and an - again imho - acceptable won/sent ratio, who I whitelist immediatly (not that i'm ever gonna create another GA on SG).

So can anybody please explain to me: If you're a honest person who does not consider using a script to constantly enter every giveaway, what's the point of SG then?

I was on here for about a year and a bit. I look at the games I've given away and I'm happy to make others happy. I've been in groups of memorable people and I've been whitelisted by amazing people that I don't deserve to be on. I've done horrible puzzles to get games, been apart of hosting events. I've met lovely people along the way and well... Am now in a relationship with some English twat. So if you come here with the attidtude of "wanna win gamez" then try entering more, do puzzles, get in groups, be active and/or try to be female to get gifted games for your gender and not you as a person \o/

If you still complain then why not save money you would spend on giving and buy a game... That $26 could have been saved for the winter sale...

I could have bought a new PC for myself and some games. ...

You deserve to be on each and every whitelist your name has been added to.

Always remember that if someone decided to add you, then they personally saw your worth to them. Whether it's for your kindness, your generosity, your sense of humor, or any other reason, you have at some point made enough of an impact on those people that they saw fit to reward you.

Tbh, I don't really need one but thinking of it. Plus that is basing it off of real CV, I know for sure I didn't get 85% off of everything I've given. Some full price, or a little discount. So I've spent a lot more on this site. Could have bought a VR headset, a lot of games from my wishlist and upgraded something like my CPU.

If you're seeing the games you give away as investment, then I've got news for you. You should take that money and buy yourself some games with it. It's much cheaper that way.

If, on the other hand, you want to make people happy, and have the chance to win the occasional surprise gift, the Steamgifts is the right place.

Of course, joining in on private or group giveaways will help your chances of winning something. (Or literally entering for every giveaway in sight, but that probably won't net you games you'd actually care about.) Also, the more you give, the more giveaways you have access to, because some people want to reward those who actually keep the site running by giving a lot, but again it's not a worthy investment if you're expecting a good return on it.

I've made this reply a few times already: Out of the 6 GAs I've created only one winner has actually played (and hopefully enjoyed) the game. Two winners prolly have played for one or two hours, or have just idled around, and the other three just added the games and never played them. Sorry, I feel like only one GA was a good GA, the other games should have gone to users who actually wanted to enjoy them.

Of course, we all want our games to go to people who will really appreciate them. It's part of the reasons why I'M mostly making forum or group giveaways nowadays.

But I'm sure those people were still happy to see they have won something, even though they didn't play much. Remember also that most people have backlogs. I play each and every one of my wins, but it can take anywhere from 1 moth to a year for me to get to them.

It took me 6 months to win my first giveaway and the person didn't send the game. A couple months later and I had my first win that I received. Everything has gone well since then.

i think i have won my first game after 3000+ entries and nearly a year. i had the same attitude as you. and i still have. i always have a bad feeling whenever i create a giveaway for lv0 or lv1. because there are always some high levellers in the entries list. but ALWAYS a person with a "low ratio" wins. i even had some guys with 200+ won gameswho registered a year ago. i didn't even have one game within my first year!

so the "you've made someone's day brighter" doesn't count in my opinion. those guys must have used some scripts. it's not even soimething special for them. BUT it always makes my day brighter whenever a guy with a "good" ratio wins. they even always say thank you afterwards. because it's polite. to make your life as a giveaway creator better, create giveaways for lv3+. or even higher. so you make sure, somebody has given something away before taking something.

everyone can make up their own "good" ratio. something around 1:6 is fine with me, personally. have you used edonkey/emule? as long as there were seeders, everything was ok. but the leechers were the majority, so every download was dead after a week, at best. it's not just a personal preference. as soon as therel'll be more leechers here, steamgifts will suffer. i even think, they are the majority right now, but there's still a big community of seeders. (my prediction: rostbacke-blacklistings incoming :)

To be honest, there's no reason to do anything here, no reason to stay here at all. Nobody is forcing anyone to stay here. Steamgifts is a place where you can give away games (and movies and apps), as long as you have enough money to do that. You can win games too, if you're lucky. Steamtrades used to be in the same domain too, so I originally came here in order to trade games. Afterwards, I've decided to join some giveaways too. It's hard to win, but not impossible. :P But, so that you understand, nobody comes here without their consent, but because they like to. So, if you are trying to think of a reason why you should stay here, maybe you're just thinking of the site the wrong way. :/

Just keep trying, you're gonna win eventually. Every once in a while, try searching the forums for trains or puzzles or hidden GAs, those tend to have less entries so your chance to win is bigger. I bet there are also some groups for people who never win or who have given more than they've won, you could try your luck with those if you wanted to ;)

Good luck!

LMAO.

Seriously, what reason you need? There is only one legit reason to giveaway games - make someone happy. Nothing else. If you are giving away just to win more - you already lost.

When I first joined this community I entered GAs and even created one (despite not having won anything) and kept on trucking for well over a year and eventually went "Am I ever going to win a GA?" and ended up joining a "People who've never won a GA"-group that had a "10 members maximum at any time"-rule and the group creator/admin was kind enough to periodically create GAs for the group and with a minimum of 10% chance to win, eventually everyone in the group won their very first GA and was subsequently removed from the group and since I either didn't know much about WL/BL at the time, I thought it kicked arse! :D

After my first win, things seemed to improve on all fronts. I realized that this site is more than just GAs and potatos - it's full of generous people from all over the world and all walks of life and quite honestly... if it hadn't been for the forums and the people, this community wouldn't be a community, but rather a barren, sterile "click here to enter gibs"-site that I probably wouldn't have stuck with for years.

With that said, winning isn't everything. I mean sure, it's nice to win stuff, but my advice is to not view GA-creation as an investment, but rather as a way to give back to the community. I know all too well how much it sucks to not have won a GA for a long long time, but it boggles the mind to sometimes see people who post stuff like "I've been a member on this site for two months, but haven't won anything!" as it's all a roll of the dice and not like anyone's truly entitled to win.

Anyway, best way to win a GA? Check the bundle-sites a few times every week (Humble Bundle and Bundlestars come to mind) and if you don't mind not ONLY winning AAA-games, you can probably win indie-titles and/or bundled games that don't have thousands of entries on them. Personally I've never used bots (wouldn't even know how to, tbh) but I as I understand it some do, but I get the impression that doesn't increase the chances of winning.

Also, check the forums for trains and such... other than that I can only wish you good luck!

Why did you even bother with giving away games if the only reason you're doing it is to win games yourself, and not to make others happy? I buy games to give away here because I like the gratification I feel doing it, and I guess this is my way of giving back to people. If I had the money I would give away AAA games every day if I knew it would make someone's day. I never expected to win any gifts on this site and I am so grateful for the gifts I have won.

If you don't see a point in staying on SG, then don't stay. Not everyone feels the gratification from giving gifts and that's fine.

Because those were games that I would never have played, and I had faith this site would help me give them to people who actually would enjoy them. And raising my contributor level enabling me to enter GAs with a higher chance to win was a bonus on top. Three of the games I gave away remain unplayed to this date. And to me there's a difference if I make someone happy because he gets something for free and puts it aside as soon as I'm gone, or if I make someone really happy because this person wants to enjoy the game he/she received from me.

I understand where you're coming from, I do. But just because someone won something does not mean they're immediately going to play it. I won Xcom from someone, and I was elated. I still am. But because I have a big list of games to play soon, there's a good chance I won't get around to playing it for a while. But winning that game made me so happy. Just because they haven't played the game yet, does not mean they aren't grateful.

If you care about getting into better GAs, just learn to game the system. Watch out for ridiculous deals, like the Clickteam Fusion bundle that was $1 for (IIRC) 100P/CV$15 (or $15 for 670P/CV$105), and milk them. It's what pretty much everyone at high level does (or has done).
