Good afternoon everyone! Well, it's afternoon here anyways! :)

I've popped in and out over the past few months and I've noticed an overall negativity surrounding the forums when I visited. I wanted to share a few thoughts with you all in hopes that it will help us treat one another better and hopefully, with more love and kindness. The one thing we all have in common is our mutual love of this great website and we have the ability to either keep building on the positive environment we have here or to let it turn into something toxic.

  • Show Empathy - I think first and foremost, we all need to remember and keep in the back of our minds that this is a forum on the internet. With that said, there will be people from all backgrounds, ages, colors and in all different places in life. What you say on here could have either a positive or a negative effect on their life. So, show the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. We've already lost one great member in Rachel let's try not to lose anymore over petty arguments and disagreements that we can easily settle without letting it get completely out of hand. Keep in mind, if someone is saying or behaving in a hurtful way, that could be a sign of something deeper going on in their life and what they could need right now is to be shown a little love and patience. :)

  • Spread Positivity - With the aforementioned, let me encourage you to choose the option to spread positivity. Not only here in the forums, but take that into your everyday life. I'll be completely blunt with you, when we leave this world, the only thing we will leave behind is the memories others will have of us. Life is entirely too short and precious to argue over things that could have been easily prevented if we had shown each other a little empathy from the start. If someone has offended you in some way, the best way to counter that is by being the bigger person, showing empathy and trying to somehow bring a smile to their face. Fight negativity by showing them positivity, instead of sinking to their level. Nothing will show negative people more satisfaction than letting them know you let them get under your skin. Set an example for others to follow. :)

  • Learn to Forgive If someone has offended you here or shown you something less than a positive attitude, let me encourage you to show the forgiveness that both you and them deserve. I have been wronged many times in my life, and holding on to the hurt, anger and resentment 9 times out of 10 does nothing, but bring me down. While the person who did the hurting has most likely moved on with life. Don't that let that one small moment bring the rest of your day down, or in contrast, your week or month.

If you feel like you're words aren't important or will have no impact on another person's life, no matter how great or small, I will remind you that a member here committed suicide after making this thread, aftermath here. We need to be reminded of this, because I have seen some serious hate in the forums these past few months.

With that said, I will remind you, that this IS the internet were talking about and there will be sarcasm and trolls and really hateful people here. By the very definition. It's the internet. How YOU respond, will determine the outcome. :)

If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person. - Mr. Rogers

Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to type and post this. I think it's excellently stated in a neutral fashion, and I do believe it will have a strong net positive impact on others.

Much love and appreciation to you, Fyantastic, and to all on the forums who may happen to be reading this -- even to those who for one reason or another might dislike me and my opinions. A big part of empathy is trying to see the perspective of someone with whom you may vehemently disagree with. It's never easy, but in really trying to explore the reasons why they might feel the way they do which might seem completely unrelateable at first... sometimes we can see something that makes sense within our own contextual experience. Maybe you will never agree completely with their point of view, but being able to understand why they hold that perspective can go a long way in assuaging feelings of hostility on both sides.

Just like to add that each person is it's own. And shows things in very different ways.
Basic principles would be to learn person through their personality traits. One such scope is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator which includes 16 psychological types. Very interesting to see how different people are, and how many are just misunderstood due their rare ways. People can't change how they are without constant pain due pretending to be something else.
Here is one of the sites where you can test yourself quickly. It requires knowing yourself though. Otherwise it won't give accurate results due being pretty short.

Positivity is spread in many ways, and sometimes different ways conflict with each other without understanding each other fully. What other one thinks is good way might not match with other's. For example some people point out the negative stuff because they believe it will improve this fault and make the whole greater. Some do not like this confrontation and just like to see good sides. This small example should already show two sides of many where understanding is critical to not get hurt.
There are ofcourse those who just troll or steam off their frustrations, but like said don't let them affect you.

All in all, take it easy and relax. Spread your wings and consume knowledge to understand each other better. And don't discriminate. ;)

I am generally prone to complaining and will I not tolerate people with backward mindsets who engage in certain behaviors, but I think you need to be a pretty lousy human being to get really nasty with others who have in no way harmed you. Even the aforementioned crowd I just ignore or block. This is the internet and mean people will let out their vitriol without inhibitions.

But it is also hard to know another person here. What their situation is, what their feelings are. I think it's just common human decency to always consider that when you interact with others. Whether you will or not interact with them and how should not be based on one's own feelings and wants alone. This is true for the offline world as well. A little consideration goes a long way.

Thank you for this thread. I know the ones you are truly speaking to are likely the type who do not understand or who do not want to understand your message, but there are also many who have likely never thought about things from this perspective. I hope this helps them to contemplate and better themselves a little.

Great letter i think the most important thing we shouldn't forget its respect.
Keep this in mind: you owe everyone a basic level of respect for being a fellow human being and one of the best ways to show respect for someone is to truly listen to another’s point of view. Obviously, we’ll not always agree with one another on every topic (and you should never adopt a point of view with which you do not agree), but we should allow each other to have and express our own views.
Remember everyone has his own individual life circumstances.
And also don't forget that behind the pc is a person who thinks and feels.
It's up to us to make this a better place.
Have a nice day ^_^

Sometimes looking in this forum makes me sad... :( I like to think it's unintentional, in that most of us have have a bad day and without realising it tried to spread our misery around to everyone we met... :( Fortunately there's still a lot of positive people around, although I don't know how they manage it... :) Thank you! :)

If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person.

I believe most of it is unintentional for the very reason you just said. People have bad days sometimes and they let what is affecting them in the "IRL", affect them in the forums. I mean, this forum is special in the fact that it's filled with people whose main purpose here is to gift away games out of the kindness of their heart. We have a special community here.

I'm rambling and I'm getting tired and that was an absolutely phenomenal quote you posted. It's so true. I'm keeping it. :3

There's a great little book called "The World According to Mister Rogers" which I only remembered owning after searching for the correct quote on the internet... :) I don't know if you were ever a fan of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, but it's full of good stuff either way. :)
