I just bought Neverwinter Nights 2 on GOG during the sale. I never taught I'd use GOG for gaming but they had one of the very few games I love and can't find on steam. I still have the physical Collector's edition of NWN2 home but the cds are ruined, I really have a crush for crpgs

The curious thing is that everything started when I recieved a spam mail of GOG telling Neverwinter Nights 1 was given for free(sold usually for 10$). One of my favourite games of all times FREE. Couldn't believe it so I rushed to get it and guess what... I really got it. It was like the site gave me a christmas present i wanted, so I decided to buy the second chapter to say thank you. Good job GOG, you got my money this time. Karma worked.

Just wanted to have some opinions about GOG from users and future users

Have you ever used GOG for gaming?

View Results
Yes, I like it more than steam!
Yes, but just because some games are not available on steam
No, but I would consider the idea
No, I'm loyal to Gaben
All hail Origin
All hail Uplay

I really like GOG and I've been using GOG Galaxy since release with no problems. I own quite a few games there, the prices are much better than Steam and you usually get a few extra goodies like soundtrack, wallpapers or artwork .
This winter sale I got:
Icewind Dale 2 Complete
King of the Dragon Pass
Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete
Homeworld Remastered Collection

And also got the free unlockable games: Shadow Warrior Classic Redux - Shadowrun Dragonfall - Stasis.

I own a couple of games on GOG, but mostly because I could get those cheaper there then on Steam and I really wanted to play them (The Witcher 3 being the first I bought there). Now, I don't buy any more games for GOG, since the client is pretty shit and I'd rather have everything on Steam and since most games I want are on steam anyway there is no reason to get games on GOG.

I like the idea of DRM-free, that's why I bought some stuff at GOG in the old days, but in practice I don't buy many games these days, and if I do it's mostly for Steam (not necessarily at Steam), simply because it has what I want for low prices. I buy mainly for the kids these days.

I'm totally supportive of the DRM free concept and GOG has my heart. I own quite a bunch of games there, I used to buy there to support them, but in all honesty, I have played maybe one of all those games I got at GoG. And I was happy when those that I had bought on GOG showed up in some bundle so I could add them to my library at Steam. Some I even only played after I got them on Steam too.
So unfortunately I gotta admit I stopped spending money at GOG. Steam's social features plus the achivements and cards kinda stuff (and this website) make me spend my time almost entirely here.

Never bought anything on GOG. Got 115 games there.

I just prefer Steam. I wish GOG Connect also added GOG games to Steam. I think there's like one game on GOG that comes with Steam key.

115 games without a purchase? That's impressive!

I like the blank space on the shelf to the right of Flight of the Amazon Queen. ^_^

I like GOG for certain classic games that are not on steam.

If game itself very old and dont have achivements and trading cards, or removed from steam - why not? For example, GOG has CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: ASSAULT ON DARK ATHENA for few bucks. And game collectors know, how much does it cost in steam))

GOG is fantastic, in my opinion. When they make a change, they usually do it right and the older games they offer have always worked flawlessly for me. I had a library with GOG even before I became active on steam and I'd much rather give up my steam lib (even though it has considerably more titles, thanks to bundles) than my GOG one. I try to shop with GOG whenever I can, because they've certainly given me many great games over the years for free. Galaxy is fine, in my book - don't use it much, though, but I like that it's quiet and low maintenance.

GOG is probably the single best and most consumer-oriented digital video game marketplace right now. They have new games as well, sometimes even up to AAA category, but they are still a store for nostalgic oldies which the GOG personnel try to keep updated to run on modern systems (usually Win7 is covered though), but they also have some great fresher stuff.
They don't have Steam's regional pricing, but they try to compensate somewhat when your local price is higher than the universal one.
Their people are actually on the forums, listening. They won't implement anything people just saying, but they tend to look into possibilities and do what they can. Even if the GOG Wishlist (titles people want to see there as well) is cleared maybe a bit slower than most would like.

Their last three sales (counting in this current one) is better than the last five on Steam put together. Especially the summer sale was a blast.

Right now, their only drawback is the small library, but on the other hand, it is small partly because they control it tightly and try to put things there that are good. So no sea of absolute pure shit like the one coming from Steam Greenlight, but with the lack of DRM (the only thing they still adamantly enforce, even if some of their older principles have been lax over the times), not many publisher's marketing department dare to release anything big there; Steam offers a proven DRM system, so for example those who play kiddie shooters will most likely never go to GOG.
Also, people don't really go there to play multiplayer either, unless the games themselves have dedicated servers or some kind of third-party matchmaking support.

Probably the only store close to GOG is Humble Store, with Steam in the third place with its library size. But GOG is largely unmatched with support; they are slow but they come through as long as they are able to somehow fix your problem. Although Origin's support may be better, just because of sheer size alone.

Oh, and their client is still very beta. I usually just download the installer files anyway.

Amazing page, very friendly, vast catalog, no DRM. Love it.

Try gog connect for adding more games to your GOG library for free, when available

I was a big fan of GOG for a while, but ultimately I found their attitude toward regular users - people who post on the forum and are active in the community - to be so off-putting that I no longer do any but the most minor business with them. I buy non-Steam games without any issue. For anything that's available on Steam, I will stick with Steam; it's easiest to have most stuff in one place, and achievements and cards can be an enjoyable part of the experience.

I use them all ... no need to prefer one ... all the same digital rights crap. Or in case of gog.com with poor availability of AAA titles ...

I used Steam long before there was GOG, but that was because we only had one choice, back then. I resented the added DRM for games for which I'd already paid, and I resented having to be online all the time, and I resented being forced to use it. I used Steam as little as possible, and resisted purchasing anything that required it.

Much later, GOG came along, and I loved it. I tried to buy on GOG, still avoiding Steam. For the most part, this worked out alright.

These days, my Steam library as ballooned, thanks to GroupBuys. I now have lots of games on Steam due to bundles and massive sales on games. Steam got into the "older games" way late, and the quality is far inferior to GOG, most of the time, but I own a lot of games on both platforms.

GOG Galaxy and GOG Connect have only made it easier to double-up.

I still prefer GOG over Steam by a huge margin, but some games still make it late to Steam before GOG. I actually get most of my new games through giveaways or bundles, these days, so my Steam library continues to grow more quickly than my GOG library. A quick reality-check reveals that none of the preceding matters as I already have more games than I can play.

True, it is a lot easier to get steam keys. Even if in steam you are just buying licenses, the right to play the game, not the game itself.

No, because... hard to explain, but without a phyical copy AND a licence, it feels like piracy. So if it's on Steam, I'll get it on Steam (eventually, when it's cheap enough), otherwise... piracy. It means it's old and semi-abandoned anyway.
