I have not played it yet as I try to play my wins from SG but I can say it is YAY for me and I know I will have lots of fun in that game :)

No need to worry about DLC's for now. They only give you more Clans to play with. Nothing added into story mode at all.

As far as I know, game is heavily Clan base meaning each clan has their own advantage. Each campaign should follow the characteristics of each clan and teaching you the ways of each clan. However, I could be wrong as I stopped following the development after campaign shortly came out.
The best fun is probably Multiplayer games so if you have all the clans, you'll understand the clans more. I do not know if opposition will be allowed to play the clans if you dont own the dlcs. Cheers~

i enjoy being frank, lately.
was kind of surprised you were sharing a review (something i appreciate, when is done, here around) without a curation going on. and kidded you with "you don't have it? :o".
but then noticed you were saying smth like "Humble Monthly is very good" to Mully. so, i've checked your profile and saw a referral.

Yay for me. :) Played it after I won it 2 years ago when it was in early access, which is why I haven't tried story mode yet, but I'm planning to pick it up again in the future. I only have about 15 hours clocked, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Reminds me of Battle Realms a lot. I loved playing BR back then, and I really enjoyed playing Northgard too.

I like the setting but RTS games just aren't my thing. I played Red Alert back in the day and a but of Warcraft 3 but the genre never grew on me. Sonic on the other hand? There is always room for the blue blur!

Its not turn-based but you can pause and issue orders as far as I know. I would recommend it if you have slightest interest in RTS. I enjoyed Strategy games alot and in recent times, They are billions and Northgard caught my eye, they are in a way similar but Northgard is not a Tower Defense. Its close to the old Majesty games if you're familiar.
Resource management are mostly automated, Maps aren't big as far as I know, the game can be short but pertaining to how you want to play or play the game to your advantage you can stretch it out. i may not recommend if you're not interested in Strategy games at all but since its in the Monthly and like LeonFowl mentioned Mutant - Road to Eden is in, its a great grab.
I hope for more Strategy monthlies which I feel Strategy games are undermined by the newer gaming generation sadly. Cheers and Have fun, Cruse~
