can it be that the golden joystick tryed to send too many mails at the same time and was blocked by provider. They hold them for a boot net.

Somehow, they have region-locked me. Ah well, no loss. If someone wants to try my code, have at it:

I sent them a ticket yesterday, they still didn't respond :/

I think they may be sending them in batches. If not then we who didn't got a code yet were purposefully left out.
And fuck the key hoarders!

I ordered it with my promo code yesterday... But still nothing... Still says to wait :/

Finally got a respond from them and this is the crap they said:
"Hi,
The keys were sent out last night. However due to limited stock and unprecedented demand several people were unsuccessful in their application for a Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition download key. We don't want anyone to leave empty handed so if you didn't receive a download key you will receive an email explaining further + a gift from us.
George"
Wtf with this several people didn't get the key, freakin hundreds of people didn't get it, and it's funny cause a lot of EU people didn't get. I don't care about other gifts, i entered for DARK SOULS, so i want the DARK SOULS game.
Edit: After raging a little bit at them i got another reply:
"Unfortunately I can't do anything about people using VPN's. We tried to filter out US people when we sent the email but judging by the messages I've got it didn't work very well. I'll talk with the tech team after I've got through the 200+ customer service emails and hopefully this won't happen next time there is a giveaway."

It's more they probably had enough for a UK based giveaway and then the whole world jumped on it and they never expected that many people to
enter

I can just hope that the 'gift' will be anything useful...

Unprecedented demand? Were they living under a rock for the last few years? Did they not see Dark Souls fan base? Of course a bunch of people will jump on a free copy.

I doubt it. People will forget about it in a week.

Just a support reply I got:

I really want to know what "filtering" did they do because by the comments of the users here I can see quite the opposite .Many users from the other continents got the keys and the U.E got screwed :)) , It would be funny but it is not :(

I still haven't receive a key yet. Not even a Mail from them and i am from the EU and was one of the first to take part in this.
This reminds me of the one time they promised me bioshock infinite for voting in the joystick awards and i got nothing there, too.

U won't get the key, i got a mail from them cause i sent them a ticket, and we ain't getting sh**.
Comment has been collapsed.
That was the last time i voted in the joystick awards or took part in "giveaways" from them.
Let alone buying something from their store. Every website has a "we are out of keys" limit in their giveaways.
Why are they promising everyone a key if they only have a certain amount of it without telling them.

Neither instance is their fault.
The first was GMG/Playfire, who was handling distribution, and are notorious for that kind of thing.
This time, it was a small private giveaway (not the yearly one in October) offered in email to a select number of European e-mail subscribers, and "while stock lasts" was clearly listed in the entry description.
You can't fault them for not having the experience to realize people'd leak the event and not read :P
Comment has been collapsed.
You're confusing two separate issues. A lousy giveaway entry interface, and people feeling entitled because they entered a leaked giveaway. :P
You gotta give people some leeway to figure out their mistakes.
Did GJ do a lousy job with it? Sure, in most every way.
Can you fault them, in the sense that it was intentional or born of anything but inexperience? Not necessarily.

I see your point and i really am not complaining because i got nothing, i am complaining because i feel like they are doing a really bad job and hurting themself with this stuff. Better to not do a giveaway at all than to do one where so many people feel it was "fake".
They should have the experience, since they did a few of those in the past few years now.
A big website/company like them should really care more for a well executed giveaway.
If i would have received a mail, a few days after it ended, telling me they are sorry but they did a bad job with this giveaway and their site, i would have said: hey, no problem, thanks for informing me.

Previous giveaways from GJ were handled by GreenManGaming/Playfire (who mishandled them rather notably themselves), so this is actually likely their first ever attempt at it.
And given that it was intended to be a closed e-mail event, you can presume this was their way of doing a dry run before their annual big event in October, for the purpose of ironing out issues like what happened this run. That's actually something to be respected, if that's the case.
And they did send out e-mails as soon as possible- keep in mind, they weren't expecting this outcome, so it probably took this long to get the PCGamer consolation prize worked out.
I can't fault them for wanting to have something to offer before making a statement.
Besides, it is a few days after it ended: They promised keys within 7 days, and it's been 9.
Again, not really defending them persay, just saying there's really nothing that I see to defend. It seems more them being clumsy but trying their best, than anything to actually be worried about.
At the very least, I wouldn't write them off just yet.
But, y'know- how many of us actually ever pay attention to GJ outside of their annual event anyway?
And come on, no matter the outlooks in this thread, you know every single person here is still going to grab that free big-name annual game.
So in a sense, the "never use them again" argument comes across pretty silly :'P
In any case, I'd say, 'wait and see if this kind of thing happens again', and give benefit of the doubt until/unless it does.
I mean, try finding a company that hasn't made mistakes of some sort or another :P
Comment has been collapsed.
I will give them that. They tried and made a mistake, if it is like you said. But the "never use them again" thing will be true, at least for me. Since i wasted a lot of time voting for the GJ and not getting anything for it. It is something i am not really interested in, so i would not have done it without a small motivator to get me to sit down and click through those games. And now it happened again.
It does not really matter, to me, why it went wrong, but it tells me one thing: If GJ promises you a game, 3 out of 3 times i got nothing. From my point of view, that is a really clear thing in terms of chances to actually get something out of this.
They might be better next time and keep their promises, i really hope they do, at least for the people that really want to play the game that they will give away, but i will not be a part of this in the future and the "bad image" of them is stuck in my mind until something really nice will overwrite it, but i doubt this will happen.
Good luck GJ, but without me.

Well, again, you're mixing two entirely different companies together.
The original giveaways were done by GMG/Playfire, who are notorious for fucking up things and cheating customers.
Finding fault with GJ for what was likely intended as a private dry run, that you shouldn't have had access to in the first place, strikes me as highly illogical.
That's like going to a house that has a yearly, massive kegger party half a year later, and seeing they have some kegs out, and then complaining that they're already dry.
Sure! But they never promised that they wouldn't be, or claimed it was their big celebration bash.
My point is, we won't know how GJ handles their yearly giveaway [now that GMG is theoretically no longer associated with it] until it actually happens.
Since that'd be their first official open giveaway, that'd be the one to actually gather a proper impression from.
You're basically blaming an entire company for having a terrible yearly party, for the actions a second second company did at that party, and for a private party held by one of its employees.
There's no logic in that- if someone pukes on you at a party and then takes your beer, is that the host's fault? If you come to the celebration avenue and find a private party being held and you crash that party only to find they don't have a seat for you, is that their fault? Or even in any way related to the main party?
I really just absolutely can't figure out your perspective :P
