back when i was a student, if i didnt have enough sleep and would start to feel drowsy i would bite my own tongue.
nowadays, lacking sleep isnt as big a deal, work makes me too tired to stay up late like i used to

its not like i stuck out my own tongue and made a public display of it.
and i never drew blood, just bit my own tongue within my mouth hard enough to feel pain but not enough to hurt myself.

Another neat trick to keep awake is to just hold your breath. Lack of oxygen will jolt you out of your drowsiness.

I've drunk a lot of energy drinks and coffee a few years ago. Now I only drink water (normal ones, not ice cold) and I feel better than ever, haven't felt tired or caught a cold for years xD

Coffee tastes great and is just kind of something you can drink in the morning to wake up. Energy drinks...well, I haven't drank one, but I always imagined them as gross soda.

The first time I drank one (redbull) it was definitely one of the strangest tastes I'd had. They aren't that bad. Monsters actually taste pretty good, but all of them are very very sweet tasting. Almost bitter/sour. Idk. I'm not good at describing tastes. :( I wouldn't really compare them to soda, though. Much different taste at least to me.

I'd also like to point out when I voted like 60+ people voted for coffee, 0 had voted for energy drinks. Coffee drinkers were PROVEN faster!

Coffee by far, energy drinks have too many unwanted things and give you the same-ish effect, if you consume energy drinks you might aswell eat a small pack of sugar it's almost the same thing (don't think you wanna know what "Taurina/Taurine" is)

There was a popular rumor that it was red bull sperm, but it's a myth :p
Still imo, energy drinks are far worse than coffee, and im not saying that coffee isn't a drug, but it's far more healthy than energy drinks (as long as you pour only a bit or no sugar obviously)

(as long as you pour only a bit or no sugar obviously)
A typically sweetened (6oz) cup of coffee has two teaspoons of sugar (aprox. 8 grams), per cup.
An 8oz energy drink (or soda, which has comparable sugar inclusion) serving typically ranges between 29 and 39 grams.
Converted to 6oz, that'd be 22g to 30g. At an assumed average of 26g, a can of soda or energy drink would give you over three times as much sugar intake as a normally sweetened cup of coffee, about five times as much as a lightly sweetened cup of coffee, and about twice a heavily sweetened cup of coffee.
People are assumed to typically drink two cups of coffee on average (or aprox 12oz), compared to one to two large energy drinks (12 to 16oz each).
Coffee is typically sipped over a period of time, and are often accompanied by food or light snacks, while energy drinks tend to be drank rapidly and accompanied by nothing (other than maybe alcohol).
In summary, even if you chug heavily sweetened coffee each morning, it'll still be a healthier option than energy drinks or soda.
That is, assuming you're not chugging espresso out of convenience store sized coffee cups.. in which case you might have a problem. :P
And, of course, if we're comparing to canned or convenience store coffee, that tends to be much more heavily sweetened as well. And Frappucinos have a whopping 66g to 105g of sugars per 16oz cup- often actually exceeding the aproximately 70-80g an equivalent amount of energy drink would have.

Thanks for the info, i was just saying that its always "healthier" without or with little sugar :) I tended to pour the all
package a few years ago, nowadays i tend to always pour only half or a third, it's not as sweet but we get used to it :)

Packets (or cubes) of sugar are actually almost always measured to precisely 4g each. So if you're using only half or a third a single package, you're actually only using 1.3 to 2g per cup. :P [Also, while a standard home teacup is aproximately 6oz, a standard mug is aproximately 12. So depending on how much you pour at once, you may actually be at an even better ratio per cup.]
But yeah, as long as you're not drinking energy drinks, sodas, or cheap American franchise drinks, you tend to be drinking "healthy" by default. :X
I personally only ever drink tea and coffee, aside from the rare sports drink (which is still only 10g sugar per 6oz).

Had an energy drink once, felt like I was having a heart attack.
No third option for tea?

I can't figure out how energy drinks are even legal. It's actually, literally fucking deadly.
Comment has been collapsed.
Because the masses will buy them probably. Like cigs "calming the nerves" the first few times, caffeine in concentration like that does give energy like those drinks say for a while. But as it is very addicting.... it loses it's effect and people grow to need it to simply function...

Guns aren't exactly relevant here, but you're definitely not wrong.

coffee only, of any kind. last time i drank those so called energy drink and other sugary stuff was like 6-7 years ago. the only use i make of them is just for cleaning old stuff. put together cola, apple vinegar and sand paper and you can derust anything.

i2apier: "I found that many articles state that Coffee is better due to lower Caffeine."
So, cola, coffee, colored crap; why drink any of them?? In the US, Teechino is a fake coffee make with chicory root--delicious and is good for inulin levels in the blood (which helps control blood sugar spikes?)
Get a blender and make your own mango shake or avocado shake. No carbonation is pumped down my throat. Personally, I do not drink real tea either. I make herbal tea (peppermint, chamomile, ...); then chill them for a low calorie, natural tasty punch. Add natural stevia or 1/2 teaspoon of sugar.

I don't drink coffee, I strongly dislike it's taste.
I don't drink energy drinks, they does not seem to help me at all.
I need more answers in the poll, like "tea", or at least "potato".

Nothing wakes me up like 2/4ths coffee, 1/4th energy drink and 1/4th of whiskey.

While most people probably drink coffee more than energy drink, I wonder if SG guys prefer coffee or energy drink.
I used to drink only energy drink and not coffee at all due to bitterness. But lately I've been drinking coffee more than energy drink due to amount of sugar added.
I did some research in the past about which one is better and I found that many articles state that Coffee is better due to lower Caffeine amount. But in Thailand (where I live) there seems to have a lawsuit that control the Caffeine level in every energy drink. Every energy drink here have the Caffeine of 50mg, no more or less, while many coffee I see have more than 50mg (at least canned coffee).
So, which one do you prefer? coffee or energy drink?
Bonus
