I didn't know there was a rumor about it. My logic was simply: ignoring the switch from 3 to 6
The 4th book became so big it had to be split into two books. The size and scope of the world keeps increasing, and he keeps writing more and more extra stuff. (you can kinda tell when reading which parts were planned from the beginning and which ones were added later). So, while he's going about it, his manuscripts are going to end up being much too big to publish, and, rather than cut huge chunks out, it'll make more sense to add a bit more and turn it into another book.

To be honest, I lost all hope in him finishing his opus. He makes more money than he can spend, he enjoys attending conferences and so, and I think he really doesn't know how to write what he wants to write. So I guess we are done with the books and now it's time to enjoy the series.

My thoughts exactly. It isn't easy to write you know. I have a story in mind, a really cool story when I think of it, but writing the story is hard, especialyl creating characters and emerging them with their environment and universe. Same case for GRRM sinceh e kills off his characters and creates new one, that's a tough process to do.

yeah, and he already had problems solving the Mereem situation -he says he had to rewrite hundreds of pages and thats why what should have been the fourth book became fourth and fifth-. I understand he chose his current lifestyle than finishing the books, when it looks like he got "tired" of them.

I believe his main reason not to continue the books is the pressure he's facing. He is definitely taking his time to write the books(like Valve does to make games), but since they got so popular and became an actual show, demands started flooding him. And the biggest mistake he might have done, is having a deal with the producers to make the same ending for both the show and book. Imagine he had a different ending in his mind, it'll be hard to change what he wants and adapt his story to it.

I know it is, but not so much. As I said, GRRM already agreed with the producers that both the books and show must have the same ending. Means GRRM made sure if the show drifts, it doesn't drift too far.

I barely care about the ending. Same as how we all knew Frodo would drop the ring, that Luke would defeat the emperor or that Harry would best Voldemort.

Well, when you start watching Harry Potter, we know he'll defeat Valdemort once and for all at a certain time. Same goes for Luke and we know Frodo will eventually drop the ring. This doesn't apply for GoT. Because we don't know who will climb the throne, we don't know when the white walkers attack and we don't know how they will be defeated.

There are flashbacks of Tower of Joy, so perhaps they will either confirm it, or not. However, don't expect that in the first couple episodes, maybe after episode 3?

It airs 9 pm in the USA, I beleive Croatia is 7-8 hours plus? I believe HBO does a stream for the episode.

Martin is ooold, veery old. And he gave up the story's end to the show producers. Means he might be, MIGHT BE no longer interested in finising the books or might take him an enermous amount of time, since 5 books in 24 years is insane.

I think it's more because he's making so much money from the show, and from the pressure from the producers to continue it. And yeah, I realize it's a possibility that he won't finish it but I'm still crossing my fingers.

Everybody says that, and I get more suspicious with each praise. Of all shows I've watched, I've only really enjoyed Seinfeld. No shows have hit me like that show has. I guess I'm not up for constant sex and violence, since there's way too much of that already.

Not entirely the same path. But as GRRM said, both the show and books are aiming to the same ending of the whole story. So yeah, you could say reading the books isn't harmful.

I just wanted to buy the whole series of books in a boxed edition. I just hesitate because by the time the last books will be released I'll probably have already seen the ending in the show, and I don't want this to ruin the experience of reading them.
BTW, have you read them? Is the language GRRM using difficult for a non native speaker to understand?

I've only read few chapters from teh first book, and yeah. He does use some native English. Yet, not so hard to understand if you know the basics of English and have some "common sense".
I also hestiated continuing reading the books because I've already seen the show and reading the story would be boring as I already SEEN it.

Well, the show did not cover a huge part of the book. Some characters for example aren't introducted in the show whilst being a huge part of the books. Some were shortly introdcued as well. Some events take different paths in the books.

Well, I never read GRRM but I'm currently reading Tolkien, he started his books around 1936 and as a non native speaker I understand it perfectly. If GRRM language is anything like Tolkien's, then you'll do just fine. (someone please confirm or contradict my claim).
But I guess it also depends on what level are your english skills at. I recommend trying for yourself a demo version that you can find online.
