You can thank this guy afterwards. I was going to make another two SiN giveaways if he said thank you, but he thought he was from the cool kids who can not say it, nether less that it's in the rules, that the gifted person should always say thank you, even if he is dead.

EDIT: You all are funny, here is something for you

While I agree whole-heartedly with your sentiment, you can't impose rules on public giveaways unless you ask a mod :/

Except the part where he doesn't. You cannot make rules for a public giveaway EVER. You have to have a mod approve special rules for private/group giveaways.

Yes you are correct. Pretty sure I've seen some public giveaways by very prominent long time members with them but I could be mistaken. Regardless, no rules, give da game :/

Maybe they will tell you thanks when you give them the game?

I know in a giveaway I won the person said they'd add the winner to steam, so when they added me I gave them a personal thanks.

He wrote this in the description, so (rules aside) the "winner" can hardly complain.

You do make a point, but at the same time I find that sometimes I enter in a hurry because I have to get off the computer, or on my phone it's not that easy to read and I don't always bother zooming in to read the description, just my thought. I do understand where Mu6o is coming from completely though.

entering from the android apps sometimes makes commenting on giveaways a rough go.

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I have an android, I love it though xD

I try to say thanks when I can but I do admit I don't always say thanks when entering.

However I've always personally said thanks when I won a giveaway. (though I've only won two, two personal thanks have been given!)

I, too, am hardly a saint in saying thank you, especially on those days when we have a glut of 300 points and I'm in a rush to maximize their usage, but that's hardly the gifter's problem. Accountability.

It only ended recently, and while I agree with Delorian on the rules as well, you didn't specifically say when said winner would have to say thanks and what for... Technically in the USA thursday is thanksgiving so he may just be waiting for some cranberry sauce ;)

Thanks for your giveaways. All support is appreciated, even if I don't say it every single time.

He says if the winner DIDn't say thank you. Past tense. That would imply the person needed to say thanks before winning.

I'm sure he said "Thanks" at some point prior to entering the giveaway. Maybe at his birthday after getting a gift or something

On top of Bob's point, saying thanks has nothing to do with typing it up (:

^ right.

Next time consult a lawyer to create an air tight TOS and try to get a mod to approve it. It didn't say the winner had to say thanks on the giveaway thread. The winner could have been handed his change at a convenience store and actually acknowledged the person with a thanks, requirement completed. XD

-- on a side note, if you get more then 10% of people saying thanks on a giveaway, that should be considered a win for bringing it to people's attention in the first place.

I believe the polite thing to do is to thank the person that created a giveaway. Honestly though, I don't think everyone should be held to my standards of politeness. It's win/win for everyone involved. You're getting compensated in the form of contributor points, and the other person gets a game.

I think the OP means that if they haven't said thank you in the comments, then they won't get the game, which is stupid for the reasons you have listed as well.

I personally wouldn't expect the winner to thank me. Makes me feel nice when they do though. I certainly don't think that prizes should be withheld if they don't give thanks.

when you say thank you - the less chance of winning! most of which I did a giveaway, the winner did not say thank you. and I started to win only when stopped to thank. I know that it is not related, but the statistics)
my advice. just spit on it and give game to winner.

Those statistics are all in your head. o_O

Saying "Thank you" in the comments of a giveaway in no way affects the RNG that chooses the winner of any giveaway when it ends.

I know that. But most of my giveaway wins the one who did not say Thank you
I do not care if it is a public giveaway. but if private, a little hurt.

That's 90% of Steamgifts.com users for you...

I ALWAYS say thank you for every giveaway I enter, if it's created by someone I know or the description is actually readable then I respond accordingly with a joke or a personal comment for that specific user.

Which is nice that you do, but as I said above, not everyone always has the time or capability to

If you have the time and capability to join a giveaway then you can at least say thank you.

If you can't comment from your phone then you shouldn't be joining giveaways from it either.

So, because I'm at university without access to a computer I should not be able to get on here and check on giveaways? That makes perfect sense.

Just because I can't say thanks doesn't mean I'm not grateful for what people do.

You have the ability to enter a giveaway from your phone but not to comment on one?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I do have the ability to comment on one but it becomes rather buggy when clicking on the chatbox and isn't very reliable. It's much more of a hassle and takes time where as entering the giveaway requires a tap or two.

I'm not saying it's the best thing that I don't comment but the way you're saying it is as though I'm an ass for not commenting every single giveaway I enter.

It's also easier to tap to join the giveaway when moving. A lot harder to type while moving.

You're reading into it a little too much... All I'm saying is that joining giveaways seems very important to you "on the go" but commenting on them doesn't.

I comment on 90-95% of the giveaways I enter.

If I had decided to enter that giveaway and seen that "rule" (you can't place rules on public giveaways, and you have to get prior approval for rules on private or group giveaways) I would have specifically NOT commented to make a point. Perhaps YOU think YOU're part of the "cool kids" who can make up their own rules and ignore the ones created by SteamGifts?

Please don't associate douches who don't say thanks with the likes of The Cool Kids.

When I create giveaways I honestly find the thank yous annoying. It's not polite to leave a comment that says "ty" and just clutters up the page making any useful/relevant comments hard to read. I think it's reasonable to expect a thank you after a gift is delivered but beforehand it's just annoying.

Well you never know.. the winner may thank you after you add him and gift him... you dont have to act so quick about it.. for me i only say thanks to private/group giveaways and for public it depends.. and if i won any public giveaway i always say thanks to the gifter.. even if he emailed me the key/gift i reply back with an email saying thanks.. so thats how it goes on.. or i tell you good thing to do.. keep doing puzzle or private giveaways at forums and do all the rules that you would like to do.
