Coming to America (1988)
American romantic comedy film. Rewatched this for more or less obvious reasons and because the last time I saw this was over 20 years ago. And yeah, it's still very good. Very funny, great cast, great story. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it yet. Damn, nostalgia hit hard here. I really hadn't seen this one for ages, but it was still more familiar than I thought. And now on to the sequel.

Coming 2 America (2021)
American comedy film. Immediately, a lot of it feels very repetitive if you've just watched the original right before. But it's great to see these characters and tons of new ones, too. I mean Morgan Freeman, En Vogue, Salt ’n’ Pepa, Gladys Knight, and many, MANY more, too many to list here, even people who played minor characters in the original you'd never expect to be in this one. Wesley Snipes is great! Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall look exactly the same as they did back then, how did they not age? The plot is a bit predictable and some parts are just fan-service, but the movie is still good enough.

I heard they're only in America for 5 minutes, is that true?

I don't know if it's 5 minutes, but they're only in America twice, for very short periods of time. Almost everything happens in Zamunda. So yeah, 5 minutes might be correct.

Démolition d'un mur/Demolition of a wall (1896)
French short black-and-white silent film. By the Lumière Brothers. First movie using reverse-motion. Today is actually its 125th anniversary, so there's that. It's actually quite good for cinema of the 1890s. Definitely recommended. And of course you can just watch it for free on the internet due to its age. Due yourselves a favour and check it out.

I Care a Lot (2020)
American dark comedy thriller film. Great performances, especially by Rosamund Pike, Dianne Wiest and Peter Dinklage. Very good story, so suspenseful! Overall a very good movie and definitely something I can recommend! Not going into more details here, because it was only recently released on streaming platforms and anything I'd talk about would be spoilers.

Se7en (1995)
American neo-noir psychological crime thriller film. Rewatched this one yesterday and it's still great! But I feel like the first viewing was better. Still, if you haven't watched this one yet, absolutely do so as soon as you can.

One Cut of the Dead (2017)
Japanese zombie comedy film. Very meta. A movie in a movie in a movie in a movie? Unknown actors, but that helps the movie more than if there would be more recognizable faces in the cast. The budget for this movie was 25 thousand dollars but it made over 25 million! Just a gem! So good! If you watch this, don't stop out of frustration before the first half hour is over. It's this corny on purpose. What comes after it redeems it fully. It gets way better! Definitely something I can recommend!

Hmmm, Might have to give this a try. Just hope there are none of those speed ups like in the trailer. I HATE those.

Never Rarely Sometimes Always (2020)
American-british drama film. Very good. Less of a movie and more of an experience, but one you should definitely make. It's very indie, so if that's something you like you should definitely check this one out. Great performances, especially by the lead. Feels really authentic. There's not much story per se, but that doesn't make the movie boring. Highly recommended!

One Night in Miami (2020)
American drama film. Great performances. The movie tells a fictional account of one incredible night where icons Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown gathered discussing their roles in the Civil Rights Movement and cultural upheaval of the 60s. There's not much story and apart from the boxing scenes earlier in the movie (you can probably guess who was involved in those) it doesn't have any real action. It's mostly just these four legendary guys talking to each other. And it's fascinating. Definitely watch this for the message. Highly recommended!

Greener Grass (2019)
American dark comedy film. The best word to describe this movie is "obnoxious" and because of that I feel like a lot of people will not like it. It's just really obnoxious. Everything about it is very obnoxious. On purpose, yes. But understanding that doesn't make it any better. Even the official movie poster is obnoxious. Just a shade of pink that's hard to look at. I can't recommend it because of all that. This movie would've worked better if it was a skit show, because yes, some of the jokes are actually funny in a weird way. Others were annoying. 100 minutes of this is jus too much. Might be entertaining if you're on LSD or something.

We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)
British-american psychological thriller drama film. Very good movie! Great cast (Tilda Swinton, Ezra Miller, John C. Reilly). What a story. Can't write too much because spoilers, but... I didn't think it would escalate that much. Definitely recommended if you haven't seen it already.

A New Leaf (1971)
American black comedy film. I should've watched this yesterday, because it was released exactly 50 years ago yesterday. But I only read about that halfway through the movie I watched yesterday and I've planned out the whole week since last sunday. Very good story, great cast (Walter Matthau, Elaine May). I don't know what exactly it is, but it's just so good! Very entertaining and highly recommended!

Nomadland (2020)
American drama film. Great movie! It's kind of a slow burner, but that's okay. Very slice-of-life. Great performances, especially by Frances McDormand who played her role so well that lots of the non-actors didn't even know she's an actress. About the non-actors: They're actual nomads. And Frances McDormand really fit in great. Definitely a fantastic performance (who's not only certainly gonna be nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars (we'll see on monday, but I'm already very sure about it) but who even has very good chances on bringing home the golden guy.) Beautiful shots, great cinematography. Very good story about (like I already mentioned) nomads and the nomadic lifestyle in the United States. All in all: What a movie! No wonder it already dominates this awards season! Highly recommended.

Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed/The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926)
German silent silhouette-animation fairytale film. First (almost, there were two animated feature films made by Quirino Cristiani, but they're both considered lost) animated feature film. And the animation style is absolutely incredible and unique. It took Lotte Reiniger and her animators 3 years to make the movie. Lotte Reiniger cut figures out of black cardboard with scissors, and joined movable parts with thread in order to animate them. From 1923 to 1926 about 250,000 frame-by-frame stills were made and 96,000 were used in the film. The story is based on elements from the famous One Thousand and One Nights collection of middle eastern folk tales, including one you might have heard of before. Aladdin. Funfact: In Aladdin (1992) there's a nod to this movie, namely a minor character called Prince Achmed. So yeah, if you like the Aladdin movie you've definitely seen, animated movies and/or silent movies you should absolutely check this fantastic one out. It's absolutely one of the most important movies of cinema history, being so innovative and all. And apart from that it's also really good and has suprisingly much action for an animated silent film. And you get so invested into the movie that you forget how much work it was to animate. Highly recommended!

Das Geheimnis der Marquise/The Secret of the Marquise (1921/1922)
German silent silhouette-animation short film/commericial. Yes, this is technically a commercial for Nivea soap. Made by Lotte Reiniger, the same woman who made Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed/The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) a few years later in a very similar style. Just two minutes long, but it definitely has more charme than most other commercials I've seen.

Neue Vahr Süd (2010)
German comedy film. Watched this one yesterday. Pretty funny, interesting characters. All in all a good movie about a guy who's in military service in 1980 but doesn't want to (he forgot to officially refuse). It was pretty cool watching this movie with my dad because that's the time when he had his military service. All in all probably not something for you if you're not german, but I thought it was very good for what it is.

Suspense (1913)
American silent short thriller film. Rewatched this one yesterday and it's still fantastic. Only 10 minutes long, but extremely suspenseful. If you haven't watched this yet, you have no excuse not to, as it's even on youtube. Great little movie, absolutely one of my favourites!

Rocks (2019)
British coming-of-age film. A young teenage girl finds herself struggling to take care of herself and her younger brother after being abandoned by their single mother with no choice but to live out on the streets. It's pretty good for what it is. Good performances, very powerful and emotional movie. You really get wrapped up in the story. Feels very real. Definitely recommended.

Since you mentioned it's a coming-of-age film, have you seen Ladybird? I have a feeling you might like it.

Yes, I've watched it in 2019. Definitely enjoyed it. It's different than this one for sure, setting-wise and all, but it's also really good.

Here we go, I'll start.
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark (2010) - This movie is a joke. At first it's interesting, then it's boring and then it's just funny/pathetic. And they put it in a "horror" genre. Words are not sufficient. Nosferatu is turning in his grave. 3/10
