holy shit this IS BRILLIANT. so many times i've wanted to play killing floor or portal 2 without it being some random idiot i really dont know.. i know there are clans/etc out there.. but getting in and starting is not something i have the time for right now.

The ppl on this new site would be random aswell to you.

+1 for Killing Floor. I randomly join servers with 5/6 people and they are either speaking a different language or they WILL NOT HELP ME AT ALL.

Have you seen some of the random idiots that post here?

It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure I see how it would be useful for most games. I'm assuming it would be public, which could make it worthwhile for games with very small multiplayer populations, but if a game has an active population like TF2 how would getting a bunch of random people to sign up on a website be preferable to just joining/starting a public game?

Cause pub games are full of random idiots, with a site like this we could like a karma system into it.
Rate the players you've played with, metrics like, "skill," "manners," "teamwork," and, "communication," then you can limit players to specific ratings (perhaps not letting players above or below you by a specific margin).

And they are entirely based on who you're playing with and against, a newbie will rate a moderate player higher than a pro.
They could be used to gather an overall sense of a player's capabilities and skills however.

He said a site for putting dates and times on when to play on a certain server/game.

I actually signed up for that earlier today, wondering if I could get free shit out of it by just playing with a friend all the time. Nope. It's empty. There were two people online and that was it. It costs hundreds of dollars to buy a decent amount of credits or subscribe. I have no idea what it used to be like, but right now, it's crashed and burned.

And then its icon could be a triangle!
Edit: A pink one.

The triangle isn't upside down.
Plus why would that offend you anyway?
Do gay people walk around killing people, raping their dead bodies?
I don't think so. Oh wait, there was Luka Rocco Magnota.
But who cares about him anymore?
So unless you have a problem with gay people, I don't really think that should matter.

Plus, the pink triangle was in reference to the fact that the icons for the three sites have been an X, a circle and a square. All holding colours the same colours used on the Sony controller, ironically. Just the colours were on different ones, and the only shape and colour missing was a triangle and pink.
Problem?

It will most definitely require a good deal of planning, but it could be very successful if done properly.

I would like to do something like that where you find a group of people that want to play a certain game with other people, and you get grouped with people based on your playing styles. I would like that for Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor, and Borderlands.

I support this action, it would allow for lesser known games to actually have some type of a population again <3

There should be some sort of rating thing. Maybe no negatives, but something like Facebook 'likes'. If a person joins a game, plays fair and isn't a jerk, everyone they played with could "like" him. People who have played a bunch of game sessions with a lot of different people but have only a couple "likes" could then be avoided.
That way, some of the "randomness" could be taken away; you'd know ahead of time if Bob1224987 is more or less likely to shoot his own team and whatnot.

I was tossing around the idea of a set of metrics to rate a player on higher up in the discussion.
It'd help make it so only players within your skill level join your games.

Don't think that would work; people respond more strongly to negative behaviour than to positive behaviour. E.g. the old adage: "If you get good service, you'll tell 5 friends, if you get bad service, you'll tell 50". Motivating people to reward others' good behaviour by "like"-ing them would be harder than getting them to "dislike" jerkass team-killers.

Actually, if you integrate it into the system, so post game there is a little green bar, like here, which tells you to rate people based on the metrics the site uses - then you could probably get a good bit of them to do it.

I just imagine that with a dislike button, those "jerkass team-killers" would have more of a reason to create multiple accounts in an attempt to spam a poor newbie with dislikes. Though, hopefully you wouldn't be able to actually rate someone who wasn't in a game with you.
Even so, I can imagine BobJerkface creating a "newbie only" game just to rate all the players down. Because "it's funny". Y'know, just like team-killers already do.

This could be a good thing for deserted online games such as Red Orchestra osfront, Lead and Gold, Beat Hazard Ultra, FEAR3, EYE, etc.

Sadly, the domain is taken. But we can leave clever names to cg.

There has been some discussion of it in the above comments.

Sounds not half bad, but I'm afraid not much of people will use that. Just look at % of users who actually use SG forum for more than key lurking or posting "Thanks for Skyrim". But anyway, I have a feel cg already has plans for implementing incredibly awesome stuff with future updates and features. Still, as I said, quite an interesting idea.

When cg has this site a little more to his liking, the next site he needs to do is a steam dating site.
No, not some sad lonely site for guys to pretend they'll get sex.
A game dating site, people could set pledges of, "Hey, I want to play War of the Roses on the Skial server Thursday at 8 PST. Anyone else up for it?" People could then sign on to that pledge. If we got Kennyist in on this, he could make one of those tiny apps and have it report a reminder about it when the game date is coming up.
Front page could be a calender that shows all month with the biggest upcoming games marked, with a bigger view on the week we're in. Extra bits could mark events that need more pledges to come up properly. For example, a Highlander TF2 game where everyone has made pledges for all but the two medics and engineers... When creating a game date, people could set roles that need filled to have the game be playable.
So, I set up a 6v6 TF2 game, at least 2 days ahead of time, I set it so all 12 slots need filled for the game to be good to go, I put in my server's IP and any interesting details. Then 11 other players can pledge to play up to 6 hours before the game, a number which I as the guy setting the game up get to pick, or, if 11 people don't join before the commit date, the game is scrapped.
Feel free to tell me I'm crazy. I know it would take a lot of planning to hammer out how to make such a site work, but it'd be pretty neat, more useful that tf2lobby if done right.
Edit
Thinking about it a bit this morning, a few thoughts have popped up.
When setting up a game, the lead pledge, the person in charge of setting the game up to happen, would have to select their region. Region is important for latency issues, and so too would be sub-regions. They would also need to set the game, the game mode, the minimum number of players, the maximum number of players, the server information, if any DLC is required, the date by which everyone needs to commit to playing, and the date that the game would happen on. Then of course, player metrics... the level at which other players have ranked them for playing games - Skill would be linked only on a per-game basis, but communication, manners, and teamwork could be universal. A prize if the person organizing it wishes, pulled from their Steam inventory, any game that uses it, or even a game. And if the player wants, a mumble or skype server to make use of so that communication would be quick and easy. Then after putting in that, I would need to have the option for, "relaxed requirements," if by date and time of X, I haven't met the minimum, make the following changes.
So, I'm wanting to play some Dota 2, I select North America, East Coast, Dota 2, All Pick, at least 6, at most 10, server to be determined, no DLC needed, everyone must commit by Thursday at midnight, cause the game is Friday at 9 PM EST, newbies only, good manners only, medium communication minimum, high teamwork only, we'll be using my personal mumble server 127.0.0.1. I am putting up my copy of Fear 1 and 2. If I don't have enough pledges by Thursday at 6:30 PM EST, remove the skill cap.
After a game is completed, all pledges would have a green bar show up like here on Steamgifts, which has them rate each player in the game. N/A, Great, Good, Bad, Terrible... so if I never got to see the communication of a player because they were on the other team, but they consistently kicked my ass, I mark them Good or Great skill, and N/A for communication.
Edit More
This could expand beyond single game events, full on tournaments could be organized, even things like the Penny Arcade Expo's Omegathon where there is an elimination system as players go through games. People's accounts could be marked as members to clans, so you could even limit games to members of specific clans, either one versus another, or just as a way to limit games to people you know. In addition to this, if an event has some missing players, the lead pledge could set an alert on the site, like TF2lobby.com does, letting people know they need another player.
