Ladies and Gentleman, your attention please!

Creator (that’s me) of the first not-a-puzzle (also known as Them Bad, You Good, Pew-Pew!) giveaway presents an entirely new not-a-puzzle way for you to get a free game!

I was glad to see you liked the pew-pew part of the entire deal, so here’s another link to a private giveaway hidden inside a game! This time it’s not stylized space shooter but a platform game, and a very demanding at that!

Click here to download the 2nd not-a-puzzle.... er... assignment.

You have three days - starting now, June 29th! Good luck and happy hunting!

Q&A:

Q: What is this, I don’t even I don’t even...
A: It’s simple. You download this free game (video preview). You play the game. You get an achievement. You gain access to the private giveaway. You DO NOT share the URL with anyone.

Q: Wait, you made this for us?
A: I’m making this platform game for fun, in my free time. This ‘SteamGifts Edition’ contains only the first level, so you shouldn’t have much problems finishing it.

Q: What are the system requirements?
A: The slowest computer I could find for testing was a Nettop (Intel Atom D410 @1.66 Ghz, 2GB RAM, Intel Integrated Graphics Adapter), but I assume any Windows XP / Vista / Win 7 100% compatible computer with screen resolution of at least 1024x600 pixels will do. Recommended screen size is 1280x720 or better.

Q: It does not work! I can not start the game OR I get an error!
A: Sorry about that, but this is an early build (v0.01.0.3) and there’s no support of any kind. Try running it on another computer.

Q: What am I supposed to do in the game?
A: Finding out what to do and what not to do is part of the puzz... assignment. You need to get an achievement to gain access to the private giveaway. There’s only one achievement for now, so you’ll know when you get it.

Q: I found a bug! There’s no way to jump to the next platform...
A: This level is tested by me and more than 10 other people. It can be finished and achievement can be collected. You will just need a bit more practice, it’s not made to be casual.

Q: Why not hire a professional artist, why use this awfully drawn graphics?
A: Like I said, I’m doing this just for fun. I like to create sprites and tiles by myself. I don’t really care if anyone else likes it or wants to play the game.

Q: I can not do it! Would you be mad if I cheated to the giveaway?
A: Yes. I would find you and stare at you for a long time, so you would feel very, very uncomfortable. You would be sorry after that. Do not cheat, just play the game like it’s 1985 again.

Q: Am I obliged to comment on a game, write something in this topic or say thanks?
A: No. It would be nice if you wrote something so we know that you managed to get inside, even if you do not enter the giveaway. Also, you could reply here so the topic lives on, but you are not obliged to write anything anywhere.

Q: Whatever you are giving will be discounted soon, so why now?
A: I’ve planned this as a finale of my June giveaway series announced here, and started in this topic with 3 giveaways (7 games) and 15 indie gala keys. Timing is not the best, but summer sales are not here yet, so it’s cool I guess.

Q: What are you giving away?
A: Get an achievement and find out.

Note: This topic is promoted inside of this public giveaway, so you may want to check it out.

Hey, interesting little game controls are slightly out a bit (well the hit boxes on things are super sensitive) but I was wondering how you went about making this? I'm trying to go about making a basic RPG game within the next month, and my knowledge of coding is next to none and only just started learning basic Hello World~ javascript today, and any help would be muchly appreciated :D

Do you want to develop computer games without spending countless hours learning how to become a programmer? Then you've come to the right place. GameMaker allows you to make exciting computer games, without the need to write a single line of code.

That defeats the purpose D:

You can use GML (turbo pascal based script language) and get faster code, it's just that you can create most basic games without knowledge of coding, like in Delphi or Visual Basic.

Just a quick criticism on the game (I have to say this to get it off my mind so I can keep playing). Please don't make jumps that require you to be on the very edge of a platform to execute. Its fine if its the edge of the platform itself, but when I have to literally be levitating next to it it just feels really cheap and not fun.

To add to this, some of the platforms in which you can do this let you do it a lot further than others, which is inconsistent and confusing.

Other then that, the hit box on the boulders seemed a bit iffy.

Anyways, I know you're just making this in your free time for fun, but you should always want to improve your work.

Made it. So here's my opinion. There are some jumps that require almost pixel perfect accuracy. They can be gotten used to but doing them is more frustrating than fun, especially if error is punishable by death. Thankfully the middle part of the level either doesn't have them or making an error will not kill you. There are still, however, two difficult jumps that you have to make to reach the end. Thankfully you added a little something that made the last part of the level easier for those that would bother to find it. The achievement itself was reasonable and well hidden, though I got the hardest part of it on my first try.

The hardest part of the achievement was annoying, but not that bad. Even the pixel perfect jumps are only mildly annoying compared to the cardinal sin of platforming games which is present in your game. The fatal flaw that is easily fixed, yet committed by hundreds of internet games a year. The fade to black. That two seconds it takes to restart the game after losing...is infuriating. Yes, we lost, we know. But if your game is good, then that means we want to try again. Making us wait is just annoying. It doesn't serve any purpose. It's just aggravating. An easy fix.

What was the achievement? After beating the level 5+ times using various methods, I never got it.

Way to go making your newly developed game the most hated game between steamgifters.

Well, if I wanted to earn money with it, I could go and suck up to the audience, create another brainless call of duty clone... But since I'm creating a freeware game for old school players, I can do whatever I want and not care how many people will like it. It's important that I like it.

The giveaway is over, but the game looks nice, so I'll try it!

Got the achievement, but neither did the browser open up the page with the giveaway, nor did the text file have the url to it... Then again, the giveaway is over now, so that's probably it.

As for the game, IT IS AWESOME! Seriously, it's a short, fun little game, and it took me, what, 5~10 minutes to pass it and get the achievement. The jumps aren't as hard as people claim they are. When do we get to see the full game :D ?

Did you unpack the game from the archive? If not, that may be the reason that there's no text file. Also, higher settings on user control could stop opening of browser I guess.

A text file did generate, but all it says is "test123". But, if the giveaway is over, so it doesn't really matter... that is, unless you're interested in fixing it :P

Higher settings on user control? I... wouldn't know anything about that ._.

Did you download that file from this topic? Because that sounds like an older build, not meant for steamgifts giveaway.

Yup, from here, where else?

EDIT: Deleted the text file, replayed the game, same text.

Check if you have goblins-sg.exe v0.01 build 3.

It seams unlikely that you could have downloaded older build from above link, if everyone else downloaded new "SG Edition". Not that it matters now that the giveaway is closed, but it does sound like you have ¸'goblins public test' which is v0.01 build 2.

Indeed, it's not goblins-sg.exe, it's goblin-publictest2. I'll try downloading again, though I don't see how that'll help.

EDIT: Huh, weird. Yeah, downloading it again helped. Same link, and I know this because I sent the "old" one that I used to a friend so he'd try the game as well. Anywho, yeah, now it works. I'll leave you some feedback in that giveaway's comment section!
