I was wondering what you do when you go to bed to help you fall asleep/sleep well.

I just recently got into the idea of ASMR which I thought was a complete bullshit at first but when I tried listening to some videos just out of curiousity, I couldn’t deny the fact that I actually kind of liked it. I know a lot of people like listening to music while falling asleep but that doesn’t really work for me. Watching something sounds good but I try to avoid watching a PC/TV screen right before going to sleep but sometimes I just use the TV to listen to something while not watching the screen. I don’t really read books but sometimes I listen to some narrated stories and find it pretty good too. What about you? :)

MASTURBATE TO SLEEP!!!

I cut all caffeine (and other stimulants like energy drinks) out of my diet, get a good workout before bed, and yes, ASMR helps me as well. I use a fan when sleeping as "white noise" to block out any other slight sounds that might distract me, Docs said my sleeping habits were adding extra wear and tear on my heart and shaving many years off my life expectancy, so I was forced to make some healthy changes.

Hope the changes will make you sleep better. If it does, it's worth it to sacrifice the coffee and other stuff.

I usually just close my eyes :D In all seriousness, I wake up almost every day 4:50 am, so I don't need much to fall asleep :)

Breathing exercises.
Once I get into a steady rythm of deep, long breaths (3+ seconds in, 3+ seconds out) I either doze off quickly, or I slip into a trance-like state for a few minutes and then doze off.

Also, monitor and limit caffeine intake. As much as I like my coffee, too much in a day means my thoughts won't stop churning at night

I tried some breathing exercises and unfortunately it had little to no impact on me. I drink one cup of coffee a day (in the early afternoon), if I drink more, I can't fall asleep at all.

I did that too, sometimes I just couldn't fall asleep for so long that I basically gave up and went to watch something or play some games. It was a terrible idea, it usually resulted in me not sleeping all night or just getting sleepy very close to the point when I needed to wake up.

yeah i can defiantly see that happening for a lot of people. it only slightly helps for me since it stops me thinking and makes me feel tired enough to finally just slip away to sleep

-3 liters of beer always helps - with the drawback of it making you fat
-any of the Lord of the Rings movies (despite me 🧡´ing them) sets me asleep asap
-The Blade Runner does the same, only more violently. As of yet I´ve never managed to watch the film whole 🙄
-Mental imaging of how zombiefaced i´ll look the next day sometimes also helps, especially in combination with point 1

I guess the movie stuff i wrote about could be related ASMR.

Clear your bedroom of any distractions/devices. Don’t hang out in your bedroom or on your bed. Only use it for sex and sleeping,

I don't like the idea of swallowing pills without a proper reason, so that's a big no for me.

I close my eyes. I tried sleeping with them open but I just can't do it.
Serious answer: I try to relax my body and empty my racing mind as much as I can. If I haven't had any screen time in the previous hour, it usually takes 5 or 10 minutes.
When my children were very small and had a hard time falling asleep, I used natural sounds CDs like the ocean, rain, wind, rivers, and the likes. It worked very well. The sounds looped all night.

Tossing and turning, getting more and more anxious about the fact that I won't get enough sleep to be productive at work the next day.
No, it's not effective.

I have big problems going to sleep, been insomniac for years now, so not to waste time I'd be spending in bed I try to watch stuff or reading books. Honestly cannot remember when was the last time I went to sleep without watching or reading something, but it must've been months ;p

I take a carefully measured combo of medicines, otherwise it's just some occasional sleep in small portions for me. Before that, when my health was better, I used to just read books before going to sleep.
