There's usually a reason they didn't get to it, I'm okay with them not immediately playing.

I'm playing the games I've won, thing is I have about 2 free hours a day AND I like playing one game at a time, so if I start something, I'll try as hard as I can to finish it or to make it unbearable. Examples are Bioshock, finished it as fast as I could, and Crazy Machines... couldn't stand it any longer. Anyways, don't bother too much with it, I honestly don't care if the person I've gifted hasn't even downloaded the game.

I have over 100 hours in the first game I won here.
If I have nothing I really want to spend my points on, sometimes I will put them in games I own somewhere else.
I have games all over the place, especially my house, because I grab hard copy bargain bin games as well as use GoG, Desura, GamersGate, GMG, and Origin (blehh, I never seem to even play those very much), as well.
I would rather try to win the games I love and have more than once than blow my points on games I am not too crazy about. If I win a game I want, but don't have, you can bet I will play it to death! If I already have it, but not on steam, I am still very appreciative that I won it.

I apologize, I am one of these people. But my backlog makes me cry, between Steam and my PS3 with PS+ I just have hundreds of games in backlog. I honestly probably will never finish any of the games entirely. I also found today that my computer won't run Really Big Sky.

I had some of the same problems with Really Big Sky. The minimum specs listed say it should work for me. I can get it to start and that's about it. Once it gets to the menu, the screen jerks around like mad and I can't select a thing. The game is pretty much unplayable for me.

There a lots of good reasons why people don't play the games they won right away. Of course there also those who just like to collect them and never play them (which is the not so good kind). But I fear that most restrictions would end up hurting only the ppl who have good reasons. Like so often in life.
If you set up a GA at this site I think you need to get to a state of mind where you're happy when your game gets to someone who will appreciate it and just shrug it off if it ends up in the hands of a douche bag. But that's just my opinion on the matter. shrug (and don't bother checking up on me, I haven't won one game here yet, put up one GA so far with more to come later and currently playing through The Longest Journey which is from GoG and hence doesn't show up in my steam account :P)

Do you really trace the winners to find out if they play those games. I honestly don't have as much time as i would like to play games. Also not everyone has insane internet speed or enough disk space to install every game on their Steam account.

I have a backglog of games the size of a house to get through. Why? Because I am a grown adult (Maybe? XD) & sometimes things get in the way, all the reasons above or I just don't like the game as much as I thought I would.
If it bothers you that much I suggest possibly not giving games away here & just sticking to giving them to friends. Win-win. It's really not up to anyone else to tell someone they have to play a game & when they have to do so.
Honestly though; I really don't care what anyone does with the games I give them. Can sell them to Aliens for all I care, as long as they are happy then it's all good. :)

I am less annoyed about someone not playing a specific game they won, but if they have lots of wins and have barely even ran any of them for more than a few minutes, then I do get kind of annoyed. Of course some people have legitimate reasons for not playing right away, I'm just making the assumption that given months to a year after winning a game, a sizeable portion of winners who barely play their games are probably never going. (It's also worth mentioning that some people play their games in offline mode so don't be too quick to accuse someone from not playing, but again, basing it on a large demographic I think most people play their games online).
I think a big reason is that since so many giveaways are of bundle games, users subconsciously devalue the game because it's been in a bundle. There are also a lot of people who prefer AAA games and since there are a lot more indie games on Steam they win them but just never get around to them. Personally I'm very thankful for all my wins (and gifts of any sort), I haven't played all of my games but I've put a huge dent into the games I've received from other people, I try to prioritize playing those games first (with the exception of playing co-op games with friends), I only enter if I intend to play the game so I rather just do that sooner rather than later.
If you actually want to giveaway games that people will play by the way, there are a numerous things you can do. What I do for extra bundle keys (assuming you don't mind missing out on whatever CV you may possibly still receive for bundle games) is check my friend's list and check to see who has it wishlisted, then I go to those people's wishlists and check who has it ranked higher. Then I either gift it to them directly or in some cases I'll make a private giveaway for multiple people who have it wishlisted. Or if you have a lot of time on your hand you can do this or make a thread asking for people to vote on one of the multiple games you have to giveaway, then just make a slew of private giveaways and only invite people to the games they voted on. These are all suggestions for gifters of course, actually changing the site to get people to play the games they win would be very hard and would be rather controversial I Imagine.

Nope. Don't mind it. I don't play all the games I won, either. I mean, I have 24hrs in a day, I spend a majority of that away from the computer at school, work, or asleep. I would not be able to play every single game I have in my library, much less play every all the games I've won. Also, new games come out all the time, so I pick and choose what I play.
Oh, I finish game A? Lets see, should I play Game B, C, or D? Okay, I'll play Game C and play Game B later. Oh wait, Game E just came out. Time to play that. Stuff like this happens and creates a huge backlog. At least that's how it is for me. Besides, I find joy in knowing that I'll never have nothing to play.

This sums it up very good, toast ^^ Same here.. I try to give my won games a higher priority, but its not ofte the case that I play them right away, might be weeks or month until I try them or in some cases even years.. still, I´m insanely thankfull for every game I won and will give every single one a try eventually.
As a giveaway-creator, of course it the greatest thing to see the winner having fun with your game right away.. and if they don´t, I just hope they´ll play it eventually, but knowing they´re happy about their win is enough reward for me, everything else is just a bonus ^^
But with random public giveaways nobody should expect anything from their winners.. the SG-Rules already go bit in that direction by forcing people to actually activate the games etc and thats enough for me. So if someone is very bothered about this, there is always an option to create giveaway groups with specific rules of behavior and people you get to know well enough.

+1 Plus I can't just download games willy-nilly to try them out. Although I do prioritize my wins over bought games.

Sometimes you are playing somethinf else o want to play another game before. days are too short :/

Some games are really short you know ?
I won a game here, i played it for a few hours and finished it. What now ? Hard mode and achievements. The game is really pleasant, but already hard enough for me and the achievements are like bashing mobs again and again.
I'll probably play again because it's a fun game, but i don't see any reason to force me to play this quite repetitive game just for things i won't get anyway.

I install my games right away, but have a huge backlog. So I don't play a game I won right that moment and sometimes I do. But usually it sits for a few days to a week minimum if I am in middle of completing another game etc... I also expect the same from others
"because it is what it is" It would be nice if everyone played and completed their won games right away, but not realistic for many imo. I give away games also and as long as it's installed and not re gifted or already owned/installed by winner then I am ok with it sitting in their library for a while, since it is now Their game. Also most people have work, school and daily lives (not counting games backlogs)so I guess it all depends on the situation, but if it bothers you that badly, then I suggest you don't do giveaways or do only private and or friend giveaways.

Life (as giveaways) it's not fair. You couldn't know if the winner really want that game, or only wants to get it's account bigger. But there's still a way to make a "fair" giveaway. Offer some game by this forums (or the site of your taste), see who applied, and do a little research. You can see the steam account of the participants and know if they actually play some similar titles.

This is steamgifts, not steamgiftsyoumustplayASAP.
I buy games, i win games, friends give me games (not so often but still happens).
I play games, i remove them when i'm not enjoying them, i replay them when i enjoy them, i play multiplayer when i enjoyed playing/replaying the game previously. Sometimes i remove a game and try a new one, some other times i try a new game and get glued to it for 2-3 months, that's a long time as yo can see. And i got a huge list of games to play and beat at this very moment, most of which i bought myself. I don't regret anything.

Sometimes unforeseen consequences prevent you from playing the game. Like XCOM: EU. Doesn't work on XP, but it should. (which a kind programmer from XSEED fixed)
Then there's some devs that love doing hardware checks and denying you if they feel it's not up to their criteria, even though it definitely would play the game.

Anybody else get kind of annoyed to see the winners of your giveaway not actually play the game they won? Of all the winners of my 52 giveaways, I think I've seen maybe three people actually play the game.
Would it make more sense to only allow one entry at a time? You would still keep the point system to limit people from just entering every giveaway about to close. I think this would make people choose their entries wisely. There's no way 830 people want to play Fortix and only entered because it cost 1p. Someone might really want to play that game, but chances are it'll never be played by the winner.
Edit: I'm not asking people to finish the game. I'm not even asking for the winner to play more than an hour of the game. I'm just wondering if it bothered anyone that the winners don't even try the game. I'd much rather the game go to someone who really wants to play it instead of someone who adds it to their backlog that's 150 games deep.
And how is it stalking someone when the library page on Steam tells you which of your friends has played the game? When you send a gift through Steam, it automatically adds them to your friends list.
I know you guys can't believe I have the audacity to wonder if the games I bought with real money are going to those that actually want to play them and not pad someones collection.
