Hello sg community, my pc is old and beaten down enough that even before halls of torment came out of early access (so no update to ruin optimization) one day it just went "nope, you're not getting more than 10 fps" so it is well past time for an upgrade yet im still indecisive for a bunch of reasons.
Ill attach the pc my friend got in january for some 1990 euros in serbia (pretty clutch play considering he didn’t want to go above 2000). I am wondering what yall are workin with and if you'd be satisfied with more or less those specs for around 1850 euros with some slower part speeds and a deal i could get on a mobo or processor, i forget.
Excuse the grammar, mouse went ahead and died, typing on phone (:

P. S. Ill add a nice thank you giveaway within a day so make sure to come back!

My setup:
RX 5700XT
Ryzen 3700X
16 GB RAM
2TB HDD + 2TB NVME SSD + 500GB SATA SSD

Defo looking to upgrade soon, specs wise I can still run most games. But the motherboard is unstable (Auros X570 Gaming X), and AMD's drivers (especially those for the RX 5000 series) are trash.

I have an i5-13600KF and RTX 3080 with 32GB DDR4. I got the 3080 second hand for a great price, approx 450 euro in 2023. Very happy with performance so far, but I usually play older games anyway.

Your friend's PC lists a 7800 XTX, but that doesn't exist. There's a 7800 XT only, there's also a 7900 XTX but it has 24GB VRAM. The store must have labelled it wrong? I have to say, and I know you didn't ask for it, 2000 EUR is a steep price. To build such a PC yourself would be just over 1700 from a store in the EU.

About your deal for 1850, that seems steep for reasons above. Maybe prices in your country are higher. But if you do have to drop down, it depends what you're cheaping out on. To go from a 7800X3D to anything else, or from a 7800 XT to a 7700 XT is a big downgrade. You'd be better off by buying a smaller/cheaper SSD and a more basic case, without extra RGB fans.

Very satisfied, not looking to upgrade for at least next few years, though i will need to buy another HDD at some point as i'm struggling with space.

Well the box is about 20x41x44cm (for size in inches, use the rule of thumb).
I am not considering any upgrade as a bigger box wouldn't fit where it is well.
It also has a lot of wires going in and out, too messy to measure but surely they go to the moon and back if I knew a way to untangle them.
I'm not upgrading the wires either. All have enough length.
About the monitor, it has all the colours I need. Someone told me like something something millions.
I only need two: black and less black. So I'm covered there for decades.

Question: after reading my comment, would any of you accept my recommendations on PC hardware? I'm thinking of making a YouTube channel to see if I can monetize my knowledge.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5700X3D
RAM: 2*16 GB G.skill Aegis DDR4 3600
MBD: MSI Tomahawk B450 Max

Not planning to upgrade anything inside of the computer at the moment, but was thinking about a new monitor.

Your friend's pc is great and should be fine for a few years, even longer if only gaming at 1440p and don't really care about RTX. An 850 psu is also fine. No need to get a 1000W or higher unless you plan to overclocking. Personally I just undervolt both CPU and GPU instead, then set a 90-120 fps limit when gaming Everything runs cooler, smoother and lasts longer. You won't even notice a difference due to the cap.

I have the 7800x3d also and its amazing. There is no need to get the 9800x3d unless you find a great deal.
Only thing I would recommend is having 32 GB ram and avoid Windows 11 for as long as you can, esp if you like older games. You will appreciate the extra headroom.
I always get my GPU used and recommend it if you are confident enough and there are reliable places in your area.

GPU: ZOTAC RTX 4060 8GB Solo
CPU: Intel Core i5-13400
SSD: 240GB Kingston A400
SSD: 1TB Silicon Power M.2 PCIe Gen3
RAM: TEAMGROUP Elite 32GB DDR4 (2x16)
MOBO: GIGABYTE H610M S2H V2

I can't remember exactly what I spent. Around $800-$850? Still using the case from my last build. I like it, and I saved some money. Corsair Carbide Series 100R Silent Edition. I still play everything at 1080p, and even some games at 720p, non-competitively, so it works good for my needs. I don't see myself upgrading anytime soon. Maybe in another 5-6 years? I do realize that my GPU is a pathetic upgrade from the 3060, but I got it really cheap, so no worries. I do regret getting the 13400 for a couple reasons, but a 12600k would have required a PSU upgrade, which is something I really didn't want to do.

@ ZeePilot: I personally wouldn't spend that much on a PC, so I'm the wrong person to give advice. Having said that, I think you should do whatever makes you comfortable, as long as you don't drastically overspend. Just find something you think would meet your needs, then compare to other prices online.

I had i5 8400, 16GB RAM, SSD and GTX 1060 till last year. Worked fine for about 5 years I had it, was still able to play verything I wanted, but my wife had terrible laptop. So she got that PC and I bought myself i5 13500, RTX 4070 with 32GB of RAM.

Upgraded my screen as well to 32" 1440p with 165hz.

Hope it will last another 5+ years.

Your previous PC (the i5 8400) is exactly the same as the one I have right now. :D I bought parts in 2018 and it works good for the daily stuff so far. I don't have time to play games recently, so I'm not looking for any upgrade but if I would like to play the new ones - it'll definately need a new parts, especially GPU.

I was advised on parts back then and couldn't be happier. It is still in use today, even for light gaming, and runs fine.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 8GB
RAM: 32GB DDR4-3200, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro
SSD: 1TB Samsung 980, M.2 PCIe 3.0 + another 1TB external SSD
PSU: 850W MIFCOM Performance M1G, 80+ Gold

Still runs pretty much everything I throw at it fine. I might upgrade at the end of next year once the next gen of GPUs is out for a while.

Planning to upgrade to AM 5 platform but as 7800X3D was disappeared by David Copperfield and 9800X3D is very costly although only 10% faster than its predecessor I'll wait it out till prices come down inevitably.

I primarily play on steam deck, but I also have a laptop with a gtx 1650 which while not great, but is able to play all my games. I recently got a job that actually pays significantly above minimum wage so Im gonna save for something better.

The PC your friend got is a great gaming PC for the next upcoming years. If you can get your hands on those components for a decent price, go for it. The only thing I would change is the amoung of RAM: If possible aka you still got the money, go for 32 GB.

If you are looking for a PC primarily for casual gaming, then a 5700X3D, with DDR4 RAM, and with one of the last current gen GPUs, would be solid and could come a bit cheaper. If you want more performance (and also account for a screen accordingly - as in that there is not much a point in high-end GPU when you are using a screen for office, with some 60Hz or so), then the posted rig would be quite high-end these days - albeit, I'd go straight for a 800-Series-Mainboard in that case.

Really depends on what you yourself, want to see performance-wise. Like, when you plan to play a game like Cyberpunk 2077, perhaps even at 4K (and if you are ready for a bit increase in household electricity consumption), then it might be even worth to wait until next-gen GPUs (in a month or in a few). Or if you are more like: "Battlerite for life, bro, and I am all good on 1080p.", then the game page lists as minimum spec a GPU from 2010 - so even a GPU from previous gen would be plenty good, or even a modern laptop (with the option of connecting it to a larger screen).

Myself, I am going for a bit versatility, with a multi-screen setup. Currently it is a 9800X3D on an X670E, with 32 GB RAM, and a RX 6700 XT. In case of Cyberpunk 2077, on a 2560x1440 screen, with ultra settings, without ray-tracing and with FSR3, the rig gives an average FPS of 135, and Min FPS of 117. That's plenty good, and I am in no rush to upgrade the GPU (which is why I easily skipped the current-gen GPUs). But having the rig ready, with a PC case that has enough room/length for them larger GPUs, it is after the CPU the next thing to upgrade, and if no technical failure in the rig, no other upgrade/expense for quite some time in the future (other than a Gen5 M.2 perhaps, and depending on how the GPU will contribute to heat build-up in the PC case, also perhaps some improved cooling for the case).
