Does it hurt to say thanks? Some appreciate it,some just don't care. Although I don't say thanks everytime, when I enter from smartphone I am usually to lazy to write something.
Or by your words: It may not increase your winning chance, but it also does not decrease your chance.

Indeed. Guilty of his own comment. You could say "Why do people ask questions that have been asked many times before?"

I think it's a worthy discussion to have. Someone else in this thread suggested having a 'Thanks!' button that would be in no way related to comments but would still let the giveaway creator know that people had given thanks for the giveaway. It frees up the comments for better discussion, such as discussing the game going up, which may either encourage or discourage people regarding the giveaway. Encouraging would help if the person didn't know much about the game but were now interested. Discouraging would help if someone wasn't entirely sure and the reviews caused them to pass and give those who really want it a better chance. Just a few things that could go on. Not entirely perfect and very rough from the top of my head but far better than 20 pages of scripted thanks.

Because it's not sincere and saying "thank you" too often nullifies its meaning.

Making giveaways is not a requirement of this site. It has no bearing on his ability to voice his opinion.

If the gifter takes the time to write something special then I will take to time to post a special response. If the gifter posts something generic or nothing at all then I will at least pretend to be civil and say thank you. Many people were taught simple manners by their parents, so why stop?

99.9999% of comments are 'thank you', people need to be more creative.
Writing 'thank you' doesn't increase chance to win.
I even know greasemonkey script that automatically add 'thank' comment every time you hit enter to win button.
