Often I don't write it, but when I do, I actually try to add something that at least relates to the giveaway and not just Thanks or Thank you.
I agree that all the just thanks are a bit boring and pointless, but otherwise people will have so many entries and no comments. This will then look bad again to other people as there is no other way to see if people actually do more than enter entries.

I hate that script. HATE it. It diminishes all "Thank you"s. It artificially inflates the comment-to-entry ratio, and makes you look like you're an active participant of this site, even if you're only here to leech. And I'm forced to assume that almost everyone who has a higher comment than entry ratio is using it.
I have very strong opinions on this topic, haha.
Here are some things that might improve SG:

Would be better just not to count comments in giveaways as, well, comments.

A 'Thanks!' button would be far more beneficial, I think. No inflating of anyone's appearance on this site in order to gain other rewards (entry to groups; some groups actually require you to have a minimum of comments equal to the amount of giveaways you've entered which makes them too silly to join anyway, but still). It would also free up the comments for some better discussion on the giveaway, such as comments about the game that someone might be interested in getting. That can already be done now, but is lost in the sea of scripted thanks.

I feel insulted by that. I manually write every single one of my coments. :(

I'm in the 00.0001% ! I feel so special right now.

I NEVER only write thank you and I personally really hate it when some users post the same text on every giveaway, they seem to just copy and paste their comment over and over (in this case I mean not just normal thanks-comments).
That makes me a sad panda :(

Why do people keep making the same threads over and over? Thats far more annoying...

Why do we even have a search function for the forums?

Almost all forums have a search function (not saying definitively all to cover my ass in case there is one out there that doesn't) and it doesn't work very often. :D

The thing is, the people who complain when people don't say thanks, do they really think a "thanks" generated by a script without any intervention by the person entering the giveaway is any way meaningful?

It's a perfectly legitimate discussion to have on a site so inundated with spammed, scripted thanks and his ability to speak of such a topic is in no way required to be supported by his amount of giveaways, or lack thereof. Sure, it'd be nice to see him do a giveaway in the spirit of the site, but it is not required to be a member of this site nor to have the right to post/speak.

I think the key reason people just right thanks or thx is their to lazy to expand upon their comments due the the fact that it will jut get lost in the spam anyway. although on some games that I really want and have wanted for a while I do write a bit more and I also look at the instructions on give-aways that have a requirement in the description.

I do say thank you in every giveaway. Sure, some do it to keep their comments ratio equal, and some do it for the sake of doing what everyone else is doing. But I at least write it out every single time. No copy-paste, no automatic script, it's because I feel the need to say thanks to each giveaway creator for having a giveaway which will give me a chance to win something that I'd definitely love to play. Sometimes when I feel like working my brain to say something other than the regular thank you, I'll give a creative response, but often I'm not feeling creative, so I just say what is simplest to me. I also say thanks, because I know I like to see the entrants of my giveaways say thanks. It might not be much, just one or even two words, but at least I like to imagine to myself there are some of them who actually took the time to write thanks.

when you see comment "thank you very much" make you feel like this person respect you for making this giveaway , people who dont comment, are entering just to win something , not because they like this game ( not everybody , but 75% of entries without comment)

I dunno, just trying to be polite, it's either that or nothing, really. I seldom have anything interesting to say when I'm just browsing for giveaways here, and forcing "something" seems just as useless if not more than just writing thanks. I suppose I could name various animals and kitchen appliances at random.

Take your pick of the following reasons:
1) It's polite.
2) There's often not much else to say, especially if the giver didn't write anything interesting.
3) Your cynical rage over the thankful spam is delicious.
3.14) IRRATIONALITY
4) Some are genuinely thankful for a mere chance.
5) I'm on a horse.

For boosting giveaway/comment ratio and seems good person, so they can enter on private/group giveaways. Easy as that.
I prefer to pass as a leecher and write only when I think is important, instead of truly leeching the system. Btw Just my 2 cents...

Try making a giveaway for a non-bundled game that you bought with your own money.

99.9999% of comments are 'thank you', people need to be more creative.
Writing 'thank you' doesn't increase chance to win.
I even know greasemonkey script that automatically add 'thank' comment every time you hit enter to win button.
