Just wondering, what major cities do you live closest to, and how far is it? Do you know if other SG:ers live nearby and have you ever met any of them? If not, would you like to if given the opportunity, and what would be your "dream date" if so?

For me, Stockholm is the closest major city. I live about 1 hour north of it. Only know of Fnord that lives there, and never met him. I think he's a fellow board game geek. So if I ever met him, it would probably be to do a gaming session. :)

I've been there one day and night, it was a stop while I was backpacking China. I was on my way to Chengdu.
Never heard of it but it turned out there are millions of people living there.
I must admit I didnt see much of Chongqing, just the hotel and I took the Yangtze River Cableway back and forth.

It was my first Asian megapolis that I visited. I was there three times, though one day each time. But still, the impressions are very bright and positive.

Every time the city met us in different ways.
For the first time it was a shock and surprise from enumerous of people, endless traffic flows, fuss, noise and stuffiness.
The second time it met us with rain, freshness, half-empty streets and fantastic views from the skyscrapers
For the third time, we were already at ease, like at home :)

One of the unusual things for me were many groups of teenagers who arranged "evening picnics" right on the sidewalks, and plastic money. But i quickly got used to it)))

I live about an hours drive south of Glasgow, Scotland.

It's always wierd seeing fellow Scots online...it's usually such a rare treat that it's like seeing a wild Unicorn. Pun intended.

An online mate of mine is from Scotland (who just moved to Ireland). Going to meet him in about a month for the first time when he's coming over to Sweden (and Åland) to celebrate midsummer with me, the wife and a few other warcraft guild mates. I just love sitting on skype listening to his accent.

Ha! He must be from one of the more....lyrically accented regions, like Edinburgh or Aberdeen.

The part that I'm from...our accent is rough. I'm certain they play audiobooks read by Ayrshire/Glaswegian people as a form of torture in Guantanamo Bay lol

Awesome! That's my region.

If you ever want to immerse yourself in the similar accent when he's not online, I suggest you hunt out some streams/torrents of these two excellent comedy shows:

That's wild haggis you're thinking of, I think.

Total bastards to try and catch, but worth it, because they are so tasty. The ones bred in captivity never taste as nice as the wild ones.

I live in the metropolitan area of Ljubljana in Slovenia. So if I cheat a bit I can say that counts as a major city. Otherwise I would say Zagreb as it's about double the size of Ljubljana and other closest major city.

Kathmandu, if it can be regarded as major one (Its the biggest one in my country.. by population and also the capital city). I do live here. It is followed by Pokhara.
I haven't till now found anyone from here in SG or even from my country.

Biggest city near my house is Eindhoven, a 40 minute drive to the west. When I drive to the east it takes me 50 minutes to reach Dusseldorf (Germany).

Last summer I spent some days days with Dyna18 at a big outdoor LAN event called Campzone.
He was looking for a tent to spent the LAN and the tent I booked had some spots left. We met through Steamgroup Bundlequest, which he is running. I actually dont know where he lives in Holland.
Thats the only steamgifter I met IRL, got some friends from here on Facebook but never met them.

That's like saying you can speak Arabic in the US because there are people there that speak it as well. Sweden isn't that filled up with immigrants. :P
