5 miles (8km) from Washington D.C (670k pop)., though more like 10 miles (16km) from its downtown.

I live in the oldest city in the Netherlands.
That's close to like all big cities in the Netherlands (<2 hour drive) and to some big German cities as well.
Compared to the city I lived first, it has lots of nice and big parks/forests nearby, so it's nice to walk or cycle there if the weather is alright.
Never met any SG'er living close, unless you count the friend that introduced me to SG and then slowly disappeared from it xD

Tokyo. Never met anyone from SG, but I'm sure there are a couple who live around here.

You're lucky. I always wished I lived there. The absolute biggest city in the world in the country that truly values life.

Depends on the country you are from.
"Temporary visitors to Japan will need a visitor visa for stays of up to 90 days, although citizens from countries such as the USA, UK, Canada and Australia, as well as EU nationals, are exempt from this."

No need for visa if you are a Turkish citizen.

There are a lot of good points. It's definitely worth a visit if you can get out here.

I'm from Malmö but have been living about 2 hours north of Stockholm for 2 years now! ^^

I live in australia, and I'm about the same distance from both canberra and sydney.(around 250-300km away; around 3 and a half hours)
Don't know of any other sg users around here and with my health I couldn't meet them even if I wanted to. In addition I have social anxiety so I don't think there's much I could enjoy with others in person, if I could overcome my health and anxiety issues I'd probably like to play a pen and paper/tabletop rpg, I think it could be fun and I've never played one just made lots of mock characters in different systems but they interest me a lot.
Hope every one has a good day. :)

No I'm not a bubble boy, I probably should have used different wording, while my immune system is low it's isn't bad enough that I can't go out in public, my main problems are energy and pain which affects my mobility and cognition quite a lot. The reason for not being able to meet in person is more to do with energy usage, I don't have much to begin with so going out takes a lot out of me and just half an hour of socialising can wreck me for up to a week, sometimes longer.(and my limit for concentration seems to cap at around 5-10 minutes(usually on the lower end, past that I'm pretty much a zombie)) So it's not so much I physically can't leave my house and meet people but that I shouldn't since it could very likely make my condition worse and is quite painful on my back and muscles, which even if only temporarily would get rid of any enjoyment I could get out of it and at worst put back my treatment's progress quite a bit.
Although I do sometimes have good days, this past year has been pretty bad, but hopefully I'll have an upswing eventually.
When my health is a bit better or I'm having a good week or month, I'd probably be able to get out sometimes without too much consequence, but I'll probably need to get/use a walking or hiking stick to help with my muscle pain and balance and reduce the strain on my body.
Thanks to your comment I've got Seinfeld on the brain now, the bubble boy parts were hilarious, the thing that's most coming to mind is "The Moops" part, I love George's part in Seinfeld and of course the show in general.

I'm not a big Seinfeld fan myself. :) It's a bit too whiny overall. He builds the humour around every day annoyances, which is what most stand up comedians do, and I do like his stand up. But for a show, the premise just gets a bit predictable and falls flat for me.
Cheers for the long and probably exhausting write up. :) I truly wish you all the best and a speedy healing process.

I live in Marseille (France) so that's the closest for me :3 855k according to wikipedia, and second biggest after Paris, but it looks small compared to some of the numbers I've seen in this thread.

Depends on what you consider a "major city." For me, the closest city is Groningen. It has about 200.000 people living there. For some that would probably be a tiny town, but for me it's a huge city (my town has 1150 people living in it as of 2016).

I know absolutely no-one here. I've just moved here 3 years ago and never really bothered getting to know anyone, since I know I'll move again within 3 or 4 years from now (plus I'm pretty awkward socially). All the people I know are from pretty far away (relatively).

Oh yeah, definitly. Almost everyone greets everyone here and I'm no different. I might be socially awkward, but I'm a very nice person (even if I don't look like it). If someone wants to talk to me, I will talk with them (except of course if I'm in a hurry, but that's rarely the case).

Yeah, it's something I kind of miss when walking from the train station to my work in the city. Everybody just seems so hasted and nobody even dares to look at me, let alone greet me (although there is this one guy that always greets me)...

And because he does, you think he's a weirdo! ^^
It's one of the things I like as a dog owner. Always greet other dog owners. :) I have a very nice dog that loves other dogs, so I usually ask if they can say hi to each other.

I live half an hour away from Arad which has about 159k people, that's where I went to highschool but there's also another bigger city an hour away, Timișoara with 319k people, the third most populated city in my country but you have to go through Arad to reach it. I haven't met anyone from SG in real life from my area, or any area at all but I sure would like to.

Canterbury, although other than the Church of England connection it's not exactly major so... if that doesn't count, then London, I guess.

Just wondering, what major cities do you live closest to, and how far is it? Do you know if other SG:ers live nearby and have you ever met any of them? If not, would you like to if given the opportunity, and what would be your "dream date" if so?
For me, Stockholm is the closest major city. I live about 1 hour north of it. Only know of Fnord that lives there, and never met him. I think he's a fellow board game geek. So if I ever met him, it would probably be to do a gaming session. :)
