Am I creepy or kind?
Free stuff is free stuff also I was never against stalking

Well, if it's just an invite with no more information given I completely ignore that. Why should someone just add me on steam (I'm not active in the forums there or in any multiplayer games with people I don't know). Only reason might be steamgifts, so I check here if I won something that's a steam gift.. but if not -> ignore invite. (Same goes for all those other platforms around).
If it's possible to drop a message with the friend request, I read it and if it sounds reasonable I certainly respond.
TLDR: Your intention is kind, getting random invites without knowing why (message) is creepy :D

Got something from your list if you're interested Riedy :-)

It's a rather kind gesture. Not too many are willing to do these things.

I feel like either choice (considering how they were worded) is the wrong answer.
So feel free to look through my profile, but no "poking" around of any kind.

And if you think about it, Santa is supposed to be watching the kids, right? Wouldn't that classify him as the worlds oldest and biggest pedophile?

I think it's cool, it's fun to sweep down with a surprise gift. I do that from time to time with people I know on Steam. Sometimes, when wishlists match cleanly with my stock of dormant keys, I'll give a surprise present to people I win games from via Steamgifts. Generosity is generous when it comes without strings attached!

The blurb on my profile is precisely because I get a lot of random invites. I find it odd that some people can't be bothered enough to look at my profile, yet they expect me to bothered enough to respond.

When I saw the thread title I knew I wanted to answer with "somewhere between kinda creepy and creepily kind", but really, nah, it's actually very nice of you. Regardless of how you do it mostly or whether you leave a note on the profile or not, it's still something super nice. I'd think even the people who dislike friend reqs or chat stuff would instantly forget the perceived faux pas when they find out why you added them. Mighty good of you playing Santa, go about it however you want.

Yeah it's really nice, I don't see how it could be seen as creepy.
Like you come to them and say "hi, how about a free game you ugly mofo"
i would definitely say "hell ye boi"

Not creepy at all. Though some people might not accept your friend request, you still have the chance of making someone else happy. Keep at it, Santa-smythe!

Maybe such a thread like this from the beginning and an own comment on your profile will increase the chances of friend requests being accepted. It's definitely kind! And everyone who doesn't want strangers to visit their profile, should set it to private.

I'll sometimes accept adds from random strangers, and instantly message with "?". They need to have an account that doesn't look shady though, and a public profile. But yah, lots of people used to add me because of online games like Brawlhalla, often looking for someone to practice with since I was a high ranked player. I can only assume others encounter the same, and that they'll give the benefit of the doubt someone is adding them for a reason.

I've got quite a few keys for games I already own or aren't interested in lying around and thought it would be nice to give them to people who have the games wish listed rather than just drop them. Easier said than done though.
I've been looking at profiles of people who posted recently or looking at profiles of those in the chat, then randomly sending a friend request. It's a bit like cold calling though. I doubt I'd respond to a random person trying to add me either actually. Also a bit time consuming.
In my eyes, I'm a Santa-like figure. Checking lists then trying to sneak into houses to leave presents. Not a creepy stalker, looking through your things and sending messages about how I've been watching you!
What do you think?
Edit:
Getting late, so Santa will continue tomorrow. Managed to catch quite a few people, I guess ̶H̶e̶r̶k̶o̶3̶̶ a̶n̶d̶ Riedy is offline though. I haven't given your wishlist gifts to other people though, add me tomorrow if you're interested.
Will try and catch a few more people tomorrow, still got a few more keys to gift!
