So, through which do you talk with you gaming companions?
team speak and it's also the most used for mmorpgs from my experience.

I'm sorry, what did you say? I couldn't understand through the mumbling...

I use mumble. Tbh you probably have a mumble server in your area anyway that you can hog onto.
Teamspeak is apparently more intuitive than mumble but mumble has the cleaner UI. The lag from Teamspeak has improved throughout the updates and now is on par or slightly worse than mumble. Quite sure that they use the same audio codecs so audio quality won't be the deciding factor here,
(wow so many people still use skype)

I am looking forward to trying Mumble out, yes. I've heard both positive things about it and horrible ones here, but I guess I can't be sure until I test it.
I've also noticed the aspect of Mumble's UI, it does seem better. Glad to know that audio quality isn't the two's dividing point. (:
(exactly! I merely put it the for the convenience of it! I didn't expect such large numbers.)

Nice alternatives! Will add it to the main post (;

So I see TS3 is most people's choice. Good to know (:

Dolby Axon has the best voice quality for me, but I use Skype and Ventrilo with friends who prefer it.

Glad to be informed of that. A couple of others talked about DA too (:

I use Skype but I don't really like it because there's like a half-second delay in the sound. I tried using teamspeak once but I didn't really understand how to use it.

Some users here mentioned it was a little bit hard to set TS3 and Mumble up. I guess it truly is, then.
I also dislike Skype, so you're not alone.

Aww, don't be sad, little wolf. You can always howl to the moon (:

Skype for years now. Only time I used something else was when I was 15 playing WoW with the guild. I should add that I frequently use Skype with friends and even with the flatmates in the same room because otherwise we can't hear each other outside of our headphones lol

Hahahah that's funny, actually. Hardcore gamers, then?
And I guess a lot of people here use Skype out of the convenience of using it.

I'm in the minority of people who dislike online multiplayer.
Another person also mentioned the exact same things you did! You may be the minority, but there are still a bunch of people who think like you do out here (:

I talk to all my friends through telepathy... If it counts as telepathy when you're talking with the voices in your head, lol.

I will add your vote to "With The Mind" on my comments poll on the main post :3
I also do it all the time.

I use Skype and Vent mostly to talk to friends, however, when I play WoW and need to pug/join some other guilds server, they usually use Mumble/Teamspeak. So I have them all installed, it's hard to only use 1 nowadays (depending what you are playing/doing). If I had to prefer one, it'd most likely be Vent. Ever since Skype was bought by Microsoft, they have way too many ads. Mumble has too many extra features I don't need like positional hearing. Teamspeak I guess I just haven't used enough to get used to it.

Very nice info you've provided there, thanks a lot. I'm starting to realize a lot of names pop up frequently, and that I should probably get used to using all of them soon - much like you do yourself. I agree with the whole adds thing with Skype, and knowing you prefer Vent helps a lot on picking my own. (:

No prob Coraline. May I ask what are you using it for specifically? Just want a place to chat with friends while you're online? Cause another thing is involved and that is getting/finding a server. I believe Skype lets you call up to 4 people before asking you to buy premium. There are public vents/teamspeaks/mumbles that usually have a bunch of 2/3/4+ capped rooms so once you and a friend or 2 join it, noone else can. You can host a server yourself, but that takes up bandwidth and if you shut your pc off, the server goes down. There is also renting a server, which I believe the going rate is 40 cents a month per slot (may have changed).

The MMORPGs I used to play had their own voice chat, but recently I've been using Steam to talk to my sister as we played some co-op games together.
We even used the Steam voice chat to play Dead Space 3 on Origin :D
Edit: I forgot I've also used Teamspeak a couple times. Didn't like it.

Really? Which ones, may I ask? (:
Very nice to know about your different means of communication. Some people here also don't seem too fond of TS3 like the majority seems to be. Oh well, can't please all!

Dungeons & Dragons Online to mention one. Voice chat with party members worked very well as far as I remember.
My complaint about TeamSpeak is simply that I don't need most of its features, so they just get in the way.
Chat rooms, permissions, access control, user levels, moderators... I just needed a one-to-one VoIP with my little sister and a few others to play co-op.

I didn't know D&D had voice chat! That's probably due to the fact I prefer playing this D&D :P (photo's nome mine, but I have one that's from the 90s or 80s too).
I hate programs of any type that offer more than I will ever possibly use, so I really understand your argument there. Thank you for sharing and good game with your sis! :D

That's cool, I used to play this as well as other pen-and-paper RPGs (even won a Cyberpunk 2.0.2.0. tournament once).
Now that I think about it, I've played a PnP campaign with D20 rules with my sis and her friends using Skype and Maptool. That was about 3-4 years ago!
Here, have a couple pictures from that campaign... Scarlet was my sister's character, an evil pirestess aspiring to join the Inquisition; the other players portrayed are Valsar, a penniless thief, and Lassecam, an outcast druid.

That's the exact same one I have! Awesome! I'd take a photo but I'm too lazy to get all that photo link business going on.
That seems so so cool. Traditional RPGs still hold their charm, in my opinion, even though newer ones have added to the possibilities.
So happy you shared all this fun info here! All the characters seem pretty cool, and the whole thing drives me with nostalgia (:

There's been an Uprising of game voice chatting recently. So many options I hardly know which ones are really worth using and which ones I should just dump. So this thread has been born. I've selected a few voice chatting software that are made for gaming (or oftenly used for such), and I'd love it if you'd tell me which ones you use (if any)!
Also, if you'd like to leave a comment telling me why you use the one you do, it'd be much appreciated.
VoIP's in no particular order (from 1 to 13):
Well, the gA ends in 3 days!
