Oh my! It was really difficult to "carve out" a screenshot from this game that the image search engine wouldn't recognize.
HINT #1: The mystery game is part of a series that has been published for over three decades, and a new installment was recently released.

It is a point a click.
Someone else got the answer, it was "Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth"

Wow, that's a deep cut. Not heard of it, and have no idea what trilogy it follows.

It was a series of games from the mid to late 90s; Gobliiins, Gobliins 2 the Prince Buffoon and Goblins 3. Although there is a Gobliiins 4 & 5 now.
Woodruff, was as far as I'm aware a commercial flop and a bit obscure, despite getting a posative reception.

Ah, think I have heard of Gobliiins, though is a series that passed me by at the time.

That's the one :)
I was thinking that someone would get Gobliiins but wasn't sure about Woodruff.

My first guess was Metal Slug, but seems I was wrong.
It also reminds me a lot Gunforce, but idk.

I don't remember much of the game except for the cool portraits...
Since I can't post anything at the moment, I shall pass my turn!

The WellKnownPlayer has done nothing and thus failed everyone, the sadness is palpable.
I will continue, but if the WellKnownPlayer comes back I will give them back their turn.
Hint: 2008

Well that is a very intriguing picture, not a clue what the game is, or even genre.
I tried googling Yodabot in the sea, but that was not a lot of help.
So just because you love it I shall say Action Taimanin?

So true, but this game is likely to get bundled since its publisher is Microids!

What is a boogaloo?
The Electric Boogaloo is a dance style that became meme-ified to denote crazy sequels, as popularized by the 1984 film Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. While we are not break dance battling here, it is kind of like a screenshot battle and hence, the "screenshot boogaloo".
