Well, if you don't post the items on steamgifts, then you won't be banned and furthermore I missed out on the promotion.

I don't mind when this happens as it generates tons of points :)

Nothing has been deleted, you can still search for it and it'll be there. It's still preserved. Frozen you could say. Locked in the depths of the forum but it'll never get deleted. Unless, well, the thread deletes itself in which case the forum implodes again.

Just playing Devil's advocate here, but how are non-forum goers supposed to know this?
Seems harsh to suspend a user for giving away a legit key, even if it was obtained for free.
Maybe we should have an 'alert/news' bar at the top of the page for the entire site so that people can see warnings without coming to the forums?
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not sure if this is supposed to be sarcastic but the whole site (including the FAQ) is in English.
If there was a news ticker style alert bar at the top warning users to avoid gifting/entering certain giveaways I think 99% of people could understand.

Oh, sorry! :P
I thought you were being sarcastic in your first reply haha! If the "alerts" bar was just a textbox at the top of each page, it would translate just like any other text on the site.
It would essentially be like a sticky post, but for the whole site rather than just the forums. It could sit right above the 'featured' giveaway.

oh man...dont tell me ppl dont know what they are doing. They may not know for sure if its forbidden but they should be at least in a state of alert and inform themself. They could also wait with giving out the keys until things are clear if no admin has so far said anything about it. I mean "Abusing a promo code to get lots of free games to boost my contributor - sounds legit". Dont tell me ppl think this way.
or in other words. Ppl dont have spare keys, they exploit something to get the keys to give them away here.

People may not know that gifting a free game is a bannable offense. Many people have given away free copies of DOTA or The Ship with no issue so they may think that any free game is fair play.
Comment has been collapsed.
I never even noticed that DOTA 2 was removed from the giveaway list! Pretty funny IMO :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Wouldn't keeping DOTA2 in as a 1P bundle game (like Ironclads) be a better option - simply to prevent support from getting a flood of requests?
Comment has been collapsed.
Ironclads is flagged as a bundle game worth $1/1P due to some kind of exploit. I think that is a great idea for all 'exploited' keys.

It's just getting ridiculous. And I don't mean the exploit, I mean SteamGifts. At first it was a tool for gifting. Now it's a place where ghost people talk about ghost stuff and ghost threads, because it all gets deleted/suspended/closed. What's the deal? Is it so wrong that there's a promotion for games, and that people talk about it on a site about games?
This adventure got too far. Moderators have been too severe this time. I think the community needs to chill out a little more. Some people have given away their sole copy and got suspended out of generosity. It's not like they abused. It's not like Ubisoft didn't see it coming that Europeans would get keys even if not for their personal use. I believe this site needs a good moderating team, but one that must not go into extremes too much. Soon we'll only be able to give away games bought on the full moon with the 9 planets aligned, and with written consent of EA, Ubisoft, Valve and and whoever is the president of the world.
So I exagerated, but I seriously think it went too far this time. Even high figures in the community were total dicks, instead of pointing out the super cool deal some of us could have used. Have some faith/trust, instead of drowning people before you even know their intent.

Might have overreacted. Still, it usually is good news when there are deals, yet this time it feels like nobody enjoyed it. It was only negative everywhere, when you could find said everywhere.
But I won't ever stop you from suspending abusers. It's just that I think something went wrong in the way it was dealt with. Or maybe a big part of the community is rotting away...

I feel 1/10 of the forum goers are rotting part of such news with ways to exploit them. While more giveaways are good it's still imo wrong to obtain such games through unfair tactics that are against promotional rules and gain unfair contribution values and the small risk of having steam accounts in danger.
I recall puppygames had a promotion when they gave away 2 or 3 games and 2 were steam redeemable but everyone was limited to 1 copy per person. Puppy games worked with steam to remove the unfairly obtained extra keys and I think a few were banned on steam and the majority just had their games removed.

Ohh, that would be a great way to make those promotions. A shame none work like that. Seems more into the spirit of giving/promoting while keeping the abuse away. And I'm guessing it would have caused no or very few problems over here.
Thanks for the replies.

We had our eye on the ubisoft thing from the very moment it got mentioned on the forum and watched to see if anyone would post an exploit and about 8 hours after the topic was made ppl started talks about exploiting it and that's when the reports started coming. Giveaways were reported, some of staff were pm'd on steam about it, a couple tickets brought up the subject, etc.
I'm just glad this didn't catch us by surprise but options are still being weighed and if values are going to be affected in anyway then it'd be retro active to completed giveaways involved in the whole thing.

I also agree with you, Phoenixio7.
Of course there are some people who abused the Ubisoft-giveaway by getting five or more copies of games (using proxies), but it's too harsh of SG to punish everyone for this. Most of all because they don't have any proof - maybe some people actually bought those games or could just get them without using an exploit. Believe it or not, I got one copy of the Ubisoft-Steamable games on one account - didn't even have to create new accounts.
Anyway, I deleted all of my giveaways (even those unrelated to Ubisoft) to see how this all turns out. If everyone gets screwed over by SG, I will not share my games anymore through their medium. If they just focus on the obvious abusers (even though they can't have any hard evidence against it), I'll consider to put up my giveaways again.

Yeah, it was hard to get the word out initially but I doubt that'll change now. Increasing giveaway caps is only possible if you're at zero but we rarely get reports of such users and reserve them only for users who have not had their giveaways deleted by us for outrageous reasons and are not permanently suspended.
You're actually the first user I helped with that without being beat by someone else to you first.

Those games were through the Popcap store, not Steam. No one should be trying to gift those on SG.

14 hours from now. By then the bulk is gone from when the exploiting started and we can clarify on what will happen or what won't happen. I very much hope we decide unanimous on something though.
Raiden (Support) (5 days ago)
They're still deciding obviously, 14 hours later..plus 106.

I got Splinter Cell: Conviction through Uplay and it's still there, so: nope!
Comment has been collapsed.
Trough Uplay ?
That's not possible all games were only from Ubishop store. Not from Uplay.
With a 30 day download link so I've heard.
Comment has been collapsed.
My university blocked the ubisoft site, so I had to use the integrated store in Uplay. Also: how did I get Splinter Cell then? Aliens?! Also this 30-day-download-link-shit doesn't apply the the client, games bought through the client are added directly.

+1
Still please refrain from deviating from the original question.

If we catch you aiding in such activities on sg you will be seeing a screen about a suspension for inappropriate behavior.
As far as the games that are steam redeemable from ubisoft's promotion we will carefully decide how to approach the matter.
