I bought a BF3 at the mystery deal in April for 5 bucks (same deal as yesterday).

Now I decided to trade it against something because I'm not really interested in and found someone.
Got my gift and sent him the key.

The next day he tells me that key was already redeemed and he contacted the Origin support. (oO)

Support needed PO number so I gave him.

The buyer now sent me the Chat log:

wild support member appears, le code bla bla
Anthony
Is the code for the BF3 game itself?
you
jop
Anthony
And was it a digital purchase?
you
yes, order number above
Anthony
That would explain why it is saying the code doesn't work then.
Anthony
Digital purchases are tied to the account they are purchased on.
Anthony
The CD-key is sent to you as a reference, you don't need to enter it anywhere.
you
it was not bound to an acc
Anthony
I have searched the code here and yes, it is bound to an account.
you
oO
you
but not to mine?
Anthony
It is bound to the account it was bought on.
Anthony
So, if you did not buy it on your account, it will not be on your account.
you
k, thx

Is that true or is he trying to get scam me? :O

Thanks in advance.

For such cases, you may want to get it from a store that isn't the Origin one.

I installed it on partition D today to play BF3. D is my storage drive, while C is on a small SSD. Downloading BF3 right now... On C, because Origin decided to occupy another folder on another drive without my permission. Thanks for unnessicarily harming my precious SSD with 21GB, Origin

Although Origin has improved I have to say, the only thing bad now is U-play.

I installed Origin yesterday and i already have had 3 bad experiences with it, without even playing my first match. "improved" maybe, but still far from being good

Or you could go and change the default install settings...

Good programs ask before storing something on a completely different drive, especially when it's the main data of the program. Also, do you check every extended setting before using a program?

Actually I do check all the settings. I like to get rid of automatic updates and such if I can.

It's just changing the default location...at least you don't have to jump through hoops with junctions and crap. And personally I find Origin to be a decent piece of software; much better than Steam

Yes, i do that, too. But not in the beginning. Why do i need to manually check if a program is malconfigured?

Well, now i needed to jump through hoops, because Origin didn't change the caching location (still in ProgramData). And how can i change the location of an already downloaded game? Origin simply said that existing games won't be moved... Now i already have 2 symlinks for Origin

Well I guess the problem is I don't see how it's "malconfigured"

And is changing the settings really jumping through hoops? Pretty sure copy-paste works for moving the game. Just point the program to whatever install folder you want

When i change the install drive, everything else should be changed, too. Or at least i should be asked about it. That would be normal program behaviour that i'd expect

Yes, it is. Because 1)i can't change the cache folder, that remains on C, and 2) manually moving Origin games can lead to problems, like you can see here. This means, i needed to create two symlinks

since when you can send a purchased game for yourself to someone else on Steam? (yes, I know Origin has no gifting option, but is it really needed that much?

Then there should be a note or something, that you can only buy it for yourself. I didn't see anything. When i bought BF3, i got an email with the key and my library was still empty. I tried to redeem the key but it was already taken. THEN i realised, the key is just for reference. That's not very intuitive...

This is old, but that is insanely moronic.

Steam and every other digital distributor ties keys to the purchaser account.

But Steam and some other digital distributors offer the possibilities to gift games. The problem in this case was, if i remember, that Origin sent a key and didn't state anywhere that the key was already redeemed

Origin isn't garbage, it's just not as amazing as Steam.

I've got free games from Origin, and I still can't be bothered to log in and play them. One of the two worst things to ever happen to PC gaming.

So you are saying that because Origin doesn't have the option to purchase as a gift then it's Origin's fault? Before Steam had the gift option it worked the same way. Looks like an assumption was made. I did find out the information in their F.A.Q. and it wasn't very hard. When you checkout it also says that the game will be applied to your Origin account on the checkout page as it did for me when I bought Battlefield 3 a few weeks ago.
