It looks great, segregating advertising to certain categories can help with things in the General category, and I look forward to any new discussion categories. Thanks!

Why? Just think of how many people use the site now and don't ever go to the discussion section at all. They are not reading any of the announcements now, so why does it matter if someone doesn't want to see them? Nobody is forced to read anything. I don't see any reason to try and force something that cannot be enforced.
I guess the next step would be to have a popup window everytime there is a new announcement with a box you have to check saying that you have read the page before you are allowed to continue using the site.

The bad apples wouldn't read it, they would just check the box like everyone does with the TOS agreements on websites and apps. Bot users would probably add the ability to detect that page so the bot can just check the box for them.

It give, more as enough, that don't react 4-6 days after a win but are each day at sg and steam on.
I speak from that type of "users".
Combine the box with a timelimit to react and if they need 2x many days for it then ban and finish. I know that would not happen... but i can dream...

"Browse > Subscribed" seems to be the new default view that appears when the "Discussions" button is clicked...
So the (important and/or pinned) posts in the Announcements category could never be seen by users who have unsubscribed from this category. Unsubscribing from the Announcements category should not be allowed imho.

I don't see why it matters. There is probably a large percent of users that never enter the discussion section of the site and never views any of the announcements anyway. Nobody is forced to read any discussions.

Wow. I didn't even know I was subscribed to discussions here. Not really a bother to me, though.
Edit- Now I see it is getting a bit annoying as now when I go to the discussions page it only takes me to straight to subscribed. I want it to go back to all discussions as default.

I would be annoyed to see discussion category I unsubscribed from, when I click on "discussions" button. As it is only way to access discussions from anywhere on the site.
That's why it feels more logical that clicking on "discussions" will redirect me to the page that shows what I want to see. And if I want to see something I don't normally want to see I need to do extra action. Otherwise I'd need to click on "discussions" to access forum, and then do extra click on "subscribed" to see what I want to see every single time.

There will be separate topic to discuss that, but I think that advertisement discussions should be hidden by default.
User would need to actively give their permission to see those threads by subscribing to them. Or after it's implemented show one-time pop up window that SG will allow advertisement in specific categories, and if user wants to see those threads by default.
Many don't know they can hide giveaways, that there is a section to delete account etc. So they will stay unaware they can hide threads.

I did not want SG to turn into advertisement billboard for users. So I was in support of more clear rules about advertisements.
But if we can throw all advertisement into certain categories and hide them by default - I'm even more in favor for that. No blurry line for the support to decide what is associated / dissociated, overall guidelines can be simpler, and if thread with yt advertisement pops up in general I can just change category and forget about it :D
Also less user reports to take care of, and some of them can take a lot of time as can be quite complex.

really won't use it, even when new categories will be live (as i prefer to have the "full picture", ...pretty much always).
still, cg did it right, in a way i didn't think about and keeping his "line" of giving users a nearly complete "freedom of movement", lowering toxicity and refreshin' the air.
bravo admin, grazie cg!

Hi, there's an update to the discussions page today that'll allow you to unsubscribe from individual discussion categories. Simply click the eye icon beside the category name to unsubscribe, and the category will move to a separate list in the left column to confirm the change. If you decide to resubscribe, you can do so in a similar manner.
You'll also see buttons in the left column labeled "All" and "Subscribed". "All" will display discussions from every category and "Subscribed" will only display discussions from categories you are subscribed to viewing. When you're logged in and click "Discussions" in the navigation you'll automatically be sent to the "Subscribed" page.
This should be useful if you would like to hide certain categories you're not interested in viewing. However, the main reason behind the change is that I would like to add more discussion categories, some of which are more open to certain types of advertising (such as a developer promoting their new game, or a user starting a new gaming YouTube channel). In the proposed guidelines discussion there was a debate about whether or not we should allow advertising, and this will allow us to restrict it to certain categories where users can individually choose whether or not to have it visible. I'll start another discussion shortly so we can talk about new discussion categories.
