Just saw a topic on overused genres and was wondering..
What genres do you highly enjoy but not see enough of?
For me a personal favorite is God games and i wish there were more.

I've always wanted to see more stealth games.

Yeah. Stealth mechanics are implemented in many shooters nowadays, but there aren't many games that are based on them.

Except the stealth mechanics SUCK unfortunately >_>

Exactly! Most of them are just crouch->get behind someone->click X.

those are just the ones i know, there are far shit ton of RTS games out there, its probably one of the most used genres.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

FTL hardly counts. Its far more of a rogue-like.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Civilization is a TBS, not an RTS, and FTL is neither. Also, Prison Architect probably fits more into the management/sim genre, together with games like Sim City & Theme park. And just to be picky, the Men of war series are RTTs, not RTSs. But what I think Incredipede was complaining about was the amount of modern RTSs. There was a time when RTSs were really common, but these days we don't see all that many.

SRPGs are not all that uncommon on PC, though they tend to be less cartoony. Games like Jagged Alliance, Incubation, The banner Saga & Chaos Gate fit into the sub-genre.

open world games with dino's...

Waiting for someone to finally make a dinosaur mod in ArmA 3...

EDIT: Also more Space Sandbox MMO's are needed IMO. We only have EvE Online (which is too expensive imo). And soon Star Citizen where I have my doubts about it TBH.

Space Sandbox/Shooters used to be pretty common, but they've been really scarce for quite a while. Can you imagine a modern version of X-Wing/Tie Fighter? Hell, even a Battlefront III with improved space battles would be awesome!

as for mechanics need moar Stealth Games and aRPGs. not long ago I'd cry for more jRPGs as well, but lately we're literally flooded with them ;p

As for setting - would love to see more cyberpunk, steampunk, victorian or gothic era. Especially in not-obvious genres. For example I want a good CP/SP strategy/tactical game. There are few, but mostly strategies are set fantasy/medieval/ww1-2/modern/pure-sci-fi

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

+1 Exactly what I was going to say. The turn based JRPG all but completely died this past console generation. The Super Nintendo, PSOne and ultimately, the PS2 were SATURATED with quality JRPG/JRPG-styled games. Miss 'em a lot. None of this Paradigm Shift stuff or only controlling one party member. Bring back full party management, You know it's bad when even Square-Enix isn't pumping out first rate RPG titles anymore. Although, can't fault them for trying something different.
