Yes, the world will end for the people who believe in it. This is because the Eartth will still be here on the 22nd doing its thing, and for those people believing in an earlier end, it will mean their world-view and their believes will be shattered, so their world as they know it will be completely ruined and destroyed.

The world will certainly change as we know it after 21/12/12.
For starters we won't have anyone telling us the worlds gonna end soon.

Oh sorry, I stopped reading after the first few times you said "Thanks for having a brain." or something similar to the people who agreed with your view. For a topic that you don't want people to troll or provoke people in you're doing a horrible job.

People who believe that are very, very stupid. To put it lightly. There are thousands of things that can kill one out there every day and they care about a silly date they're misinterpreting? Please.
And if something DOES happen, we'll be too dead to care anyway.

Super Gonorrhea is legit though and kills pretty quick, worse then HIV/AIDs.

It's kinda sad because Planet X was a complete lie and they will probably create some other lie to provoke people until 21st December.

i believe it will quote "end as we know it" endquote as all the people who still believe it will feel dumb when it doesn't occur because... YOU CAN NOT PREDICT THE FUTURE WITH A 100% GUARANTEE

I love how people refute the end of the world nonsense with the defense that the Mayan's year was ~.25 days shorter than the Gregorian year, it's like they actually would believe it if it wasn't for that. Why not refute it for what those who believe it treat it as: mysticism.

People that refudiate the Mayan calendar and state is .25 days short, do not under stand the reality that their calendar was a perfect lunar calendar, 364 days. And the fact that the Gregorian calendar has changed some 18 or so times since it was introduced does not enter in to their equations either.
The Mayan calendar just restarts, another fact people fail to understand, 21.21.12 is the end of the last cycle before it starts over.
It just happens to be on a very special date where so very many galactic entities line up very rarely (once a millenia or so) it is likely to see some cosmic or planetary event, but the end of the world...no.
Just a possible bad day at worst.

Winter Sale?
Think it was leaked as starting on 21st December. Might well have been same time / place as Autumn / Thanksgiving / Black Friday / Early Winter Sale was leaked iirc.

It is human nature to be curious and cautious, alarmists however will always play on peoples fear of what is not known.

tl;dr : The Mayans didn't account for leap years. If the world was going to end, it should have ended many years ago. The end.
edit: others mentioned this on a second more thorough look, so yep.

Great game. One of my faves of 2011. +1 times infinity.

"Beware of stupid people in large groups." Too many people are sheep...can you say baaaaa? I knew that ya could. The best thing to do on that date is to kick back with some friends in some form of seating, with your favorite beverage, around a bonfire, do some fireworks. Grill out, have fixins and appropriate junk food , chocolate ~ ya know, all the important things. When you're finally tired, make sure the fire is out and go to bed. Get up the next day and go on with SSDD.

Yeah, this community is a lot better than most internet communities, a lot of cool people. Not sure what metoxys was saying there, but meh.

It wont be.
People have such boring lives they cling to things like this if only to give them some excitement for a little while. This date will come and go and be forgotten then at some point down the road another doomsday will be announced and they'll cling on to that one^^

For wanting to have a sincere discussion, there's an awful lot of stupid comments from people here, OP included. Closing thread.

Very sincere and serious talk intended by OP. No trolling or provocating, please. Even though this is definitely not one of the best communities on the Internet I'd still hope to be having a sincere discussion.
Now people start panicking over the 21st of December for no reason and I simply can't stand it how people fail to do their research and seriously believe in one of the many "oh the world is going to end" hypes.
So, who of you, after doing research, still believes in the soon to be "end of the world as we know it"?
